How you like them Bruins?

You know how you can tell if a team is legit?  They win games they are supposed to.  The Bruins have been doing just that.

Starting off with Atlanta after trailing 2-0, they came back to win 5-4.  Against Edmonton, they couldn't bury the puck, but timely saves from Tim Thomas and a overtime goal from Dennis Wideman later, the Bruins won 1-0.  Another late game against Vancouver, the team scored 1 goal, but still win 1-0 thanks to back to back shutouts from Tim Thomas.

This team is for real.  Think about this, Chara hasn't played well, Ryder, Sturm, Bergeron, and others have yet to consistently score, and we are without Chuck Kobasew.  Yet, we are still 5-2-0-3.

Tim Thomas is a number 1, like it or not.  Put it this way, if Ryan Miller or Mikka Kipprosuff posted Thomas's numbers from last season, people would be claiming how good they are, yet Tim Thomas posts his numbers and he still isn't a true number 1.  Aside from Brodeur and Luongo, none of the goalies are legit franchise goalies IMO.

David Krejci is surpassing all of my expectations.  I didn't expect much from him even though all of you did.  I was wrong.  The guy is a Bergeron 2.0.  Speaking of, Bergeron has played well but is still rusty, which is understandable.

Kessel has improved on his 2 way game a lot, making him a more complete player.

I could go on, but I am really excited.  It'd be nice if someone could just beat Montreal....

I think Tim Thomas is going shopping for some cashews so the rest of the league (and those prick TSN announcers) can suck his nuts.

I personally like the fact that Thomas goes under the radar from season to season... He's the type of goalie that needs to keep playing though... When he's hot hes hot... Hopefully these past two games will keep him out of this "every other game rotation", Sturm and Ryder will come along just fine as soon as the lineup gets a little consistant...

BTW Jack Edwards Sucks Big Time!!!

rccpuck82,

you may not like Jack Edwards, but he's a hell of a lot better than Dale Arnold was. BTW, I like Jack alot.

Arnold always got the players and even the teams wrong - Jack should learn a new word for transition he uses it 50 times a game - I get to a point where I drop a turd every time I hear it.
Two good games - thanks to Thomas - Vancouver should of had 5 goals easy. It looks like Wheeler should be sent down for a while he needs to play meaner - the guy is 6'4. Bergeron looks a little rusty - I think he should be pulled off the power play for a while until his hockey instincts come back - he is half a step behind now. I think there is a good core of players now - it is time to make some decisions about trades - Shaffer - Axleson - Sobotka - Fernandez - Ryder and one defenceman should be shopped for a legit sniper and defenceman.

I don't think Wheeler should be sent down. Last night he played well. Fights hard for pucks in the corner and can carry the puck real well up ice. He's a big guy out in front of the net too and the bruins could certainly use one of the big guys on every line. They want to take his progress slowly so he's not getting as much time as everyone would like to see from him. If we gave him a few healthy scratches for sobotka every once and a while i wouldn't mind though.

Wow what a game does anyone want to really see whats going on out there its not all Thomas give some credit to our players we keep most of the shots to the outside and there also clearing away all the bad rebounds that Thomas gives up. Jeffe 77 you did your homework but what about Mannyhaving the most wins in the Wilds history why did they trade Roloson not Manny get a clue man. Im not saying hes the best but dont knock his careerwhen hes played on a shitty team and stud on his head. I will say this next year when Rask is here you will see goaltending not just good but great and we might not have to play the trap to win. Scott NY

How about Shawn Thornton? He's been nothing but a positive force doing everything a 4th liner should be doing. He's been skating hard and fast grinding it out every game. I tip my hat to him.

I don't disagree - the team is playing well but at this level they will not be a serious cup contender. I am sick of scraping by to make the playoffs and making T-off times in the second round. Bruin teams which made it deep into the playoffs all had the same things in common - great goalies
one of the best defenceman in the league a total package playmaker and the guy who can put the puck in the net consistantly - Moog - Bourque - Neely - Oates - to name a few. We are close but not there yet.

No doubt Thornton deserves a hand, as does the rest of the 4th line. Those guys have been playing unbelievable the last 3 games.

Timmy goes again Thurs. no reason not to with back to back SO's and a day off in between.

Team defense has been awesome especially in the neutral zone. The way Kessel has been playing is absolutely incredible. I love how Julien has been able to turn him into a 2-way player, he's matured a lot since just last season.

B's have had a tough time scoring but that has to do with the goaltending they've faced. They have had plenty of good chances, and soon enough they'll be finding the back of the net consistantly. Kobasew's return is only going to help there.

I like what scott has said the team in front of Thomas have been awesome but at the same time Thomas has made some great saves. I also agree that Manny was and mite still be a great goalie he has proved it in the past on a bad team and known one should judge him until he gets a chance to take run with it for a couple games. On that note I would ride the hot goalie too. Rask is going to be way better then both of them put together and I personaly think hes ready now but Ill wait to next year cause great is worth waiting for...... Fallse Ontario

when the bruins win the cup, someone will STILL complain about the finals going to six games, and the bruins should of won in four. i guess some people are never happy. you can't go 82-0-0 and not every player is going to show-up every night.

random: what team would take fernandez and his salary? what team would take schaeffer? trade ryder already? we're 10 games in! what's the point of watching hockey if you're just going to bitch about everything. just sit back and enjoy and stop thinking how you would be better playing on the 3rd line over axelsson.

here's what i noticed last game against vancouver which noone has mentioned because you're all too busy complaining about the same shit over and over again:

1. cough-ups. how many turnovers did boston have last night? plenty! chara and wideman especially.

2. soft play on the forecheck. not too scary unless it was the fourth line.

3. thomas deserves more credit. you want to credit the defensemen? i'll credit them with giving sedin a clear-cut breakaway in the second, and multiple point-blank chances from in-close.

4. bruins played a good "end-game". they shut-down everything in the last 10 mins which was nice to see.

Mook your the man you know every thing. How long did you play hockey ? How far did you go? How many points did you get in your best year? What do you actually know about team systems? CAUSE ALL I SMELL IS BULLSHIT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH AND A GUY GRASPING AT STRAWS. Chris From Ottawa

Well Scott, at least we agree on something. I think that Rask is the real deal, and will give us what we need to not only make good playoff runs, but make legitimate cup runs in a season or two.

When I said Kessel could outscore either Hossa or Kovie, I meant it. Of course those players are great, and have acheived marks Kessel has yet to do so. But one thing the NHL has a history of doing, is surprising and there are always factors that go beyond who is better, simply becuase its a team sport.

Gretzky, Lemieux, Bourque etc have all been outscored, or outdone in some statistical category in their storied career at some point in time. There are too many factors in hockey I have seen over the years to gaurantee anything, and a good part of the fate of a player lies in his team.

I dont hate Manny, just love Thomas' heart and effort (and price). He has shown a lack of technique over his short career, but has been improving in that department. He has always had a good hockey sense and aggresive style to make up for it. I think he is a perfect transition (thanks jack) goalie for this team right now, as we do have Rask coming up soon.

Manny in my opinion, needs a team that needs him; and more than the Bruins do. I think he feels overwhelmed by Thomas' work ethic, and overall I will admit he has better form and technique than Timmy does.

But Manny will need alot of NHL games to get back to where he can be effective, and there is a good chance it would come at the Bruins playoff expense if he were a starter this season. So, the Bruins playing Manny as a backup, then letting him go on to another team next year could be a great thing for him, and an ideal situation for us as he is a pending UFA, and does have reason to play as well as possible.

To top it off, if Manny proves me wrong, and outplays Timmy, that would be something to see. Not a sarcastic comment, but that would mean Manny would "pleasantly" prove me wrong. I just wont beleive it until I see it.

Hope that all makes sense.

I think we are all die hard bruin fans and no matter what happens they will be our team to the grave.
It is just hard not being a pessimist after being kicked in the nuts every year for the last 36 years.
But on a good note there where some painfull years for the Sox and Patriots also. Hopefully the Bruins will be the envy of the league someday also.

2 positive game results is nothing to get excited about. The B's are getting better, but they are a far team from what they can consistently be.

Consistency is the key. There is no sense in taking 2 steps forward & then 2 back. Perhaps when the D gets their collective head out of their collective asses, we will be able to compete on a consistent basis.

Mook, that was an insightful post it doesn't really matter what people are saying about it, you made excellent points on all accounts especially mentioning all the pucks Boston HANDED the Canucks. I'd especially like to point out all the times I saw the B's try to clear the zone during 5 on 5 hockey, only to "squirt-level" chip the puck up the half boards turning it right over to the Canucks defense for Ohlund, Salo or Edler to blast right at Timmy. Two back to back 1-0 games STOLEN by Thomas. The goalie is only supposed to give the team a CHANCE to win which on most nights means let in no more than 3 goals, not 0 goals.
