Alberts traded to Philly for Lukacevic and pick

The Bruins traded D Andrew Alberts to the Philadelphia Flyers for Ned Luckacevic and a conditional 4th round draft pick (turns into a 3rd if he re-signs).

This means that Lashoff could be called up for the 6th/7th defensive spot with Hnidy seeing more playing time.  This was mostly a cap cutting cost, shedding 1.25 million off the cap, a substantial amount.  This gives the Bruins a lot more flexibility regarding trades and call-ups.

Luckacevic is a prospect who will see a lot of time in Providence.  He has never played in the NHL.  The 4th round pick basically replaces the pick sent to Minnesota in the Manny Fernandez deal.

awesome deal. gettin rid of that dead cap weight. alberts would not have given them anything anyways. easily replaceable by hunwick, lashoff, or some veteran (hnidy type, nothing great but wont hurt). 1.25 million for alberts who doesnt hit, cant shoot, cant pass, doesnt skate well, and is always injured. excellent deal PC and I'm suprised philly took him. -false quebec

2,242,500 cap space. That sounds great lets make another deal or get SJ to wavie McLaren again and we could pick him up for half the price. McLaren is a way better defencemen then Hnidy is, plus he rocks the shit out of people and thats what we need badly. I never see any big hits when players cut into our trolley tracks and this is what hes very good at. Fallse Ontario

Nothing but good news here.

Badly needed cap room for a dead from the neck up d-man who didn't figure to amount to much anyway.

With the extra cap room of $2,242,500 and the room saved on Kobasew's injury, maybe PC has something further bruin? God only knows we are in urgent need of a quality d-man.

Rumor has it that the Hurricanes are interested in Schaeffer and are shopping Kaberle. However at $2.2M he is not solution.

I agree with Fallse Ontario that our best option at this point is McLaren. On re-entry waivers, he could be had for 1/2 of his salary, or $1.25M. That scenario would leave the B's with about $1M in cap space and we would have a shit-kicker on defense which would result in more respect around the league.

As it stands right now, everyone knows the B's are soft defensively and as such, opponents are not afraid to take liberties & play braver offensively knowing that they stand a 50/50 chance of making a good play or goading the B's into a penalty. McLaren's acquisition would cause our opponents to think twice.

Just heard via TSN that the Sharks have put McLaren on re-entry waivers.

Does anybody know exactly how this works? For example, does Boston have first chance over Philly. Knowing the Flyers like I do, I suspect that they would grab McLaren if they had a chance.

i agree that alberts had to be traded, but this is just disgusting. alberts is going to the team that knocked him out of half the games last season. you dont think hes going to have a beef with that locker room? i would rather see him go to montreal, i hate montreal more than the flyers, but this just isnt fair to alberts. this is a good business move, and a terrible hockey move. i dont care what we get in return this just isnt fair to him.

Maybe it will cause a riff (or riffs plural) in the Flyers locker room, and that will show on the ice. Added bonus for the Bruins, as the Flyers were viewed by many as the team to beat in the East.

Neither hit on Patrice or Alberts were personal they just happened to keep them out of action.

Now getting rid of Alberts is good for two reasons, cap space and prospect development. McClaren makes no sense in either case.

While I don't think McLaren is close to the talent level he was at a few years ago, I think that he would improve our defense. It would also give our young guys more time to develop in the AHL.

I would much rather see a trade for a top-4 defensemen, but I'm not sure who is available outside of Kaberle and Bouwmeester.

I really dont feel PC is going to throw away prospect to get a top 4 defencemen that is not locked in for few years. Atleast my opinion, our young guns are not worth dumping for guy that may be gone next year thats why I feel McLaren is our best choice right now.

if timmy plays at the level hes played at the last couple seasons, and manny starts playing better, i would love to see the b's try to get rid of manny for cap space, manny would have to start to play better because no wants his 4 mill for the way hes been playing, then we could go timmy rask duo and have lots of cap space.

Maybe we could convince the Kings that the one thing they need the most, is a veteran goaltender that takes up lots of cap space. Then once they are convinced, we will say, what a coincidence, we have just what you are looking for. Then we give them Manny Fernandez for a box of chocolates. Then if they try to bargain, we accept a half eaten box of chocolates in exchange for Manny.

Yes I would like to see Fernandez go only cause of the money he eats up, but at the same time if he does get back to his old self he is one of the best in the league and that means way better then Thomas. Fernandez could single handely win games some nights and we haven't had a goalie like this since Moog. Fallse Ontario
