10/15/08 Bruins vs. Canadiens: Preview

Let's f*ck them up.  This will be either a close gritty game, or a blowout on the Habs side.  We can tell by the 18:00 minute mark of the 1st if the Habs get a few bounces and 2 goals quick.

Keys to winning:
-Clog up the neutral zone, don't let Montreal skate
-No shitty unlucky goals, make them legit
-Try and get out early
-Make them play your game.

Prediction:

I am not feeling the shaky goaltending or the defense

Habs-5
Bruins-3

the B's have yet to hit their stride & Les Habs are working like a fine-tuned engine. Couple that with the Habs nostalgic 100 year opener tonight & i hope that i am wrong, but it would not surprise me if the Habs thrash the B's tonight 6-2. Ouch!!!

Way to overcome an early deficit. If that doesn't give them a big boost later on down the road, I would be very surprised.

The B's played a great hockey game minus the 3.5 minutes in the first period. They showed a lot of heart forcing OT. Other recent Bruins teams would have packed it in after 3-0.

We need to pick our socks and jocks can anyone tell me why we run around with our heads cut off against this team. Please dont tell me it was only for 4 minutes cause your lying to yourself they. 5 minutes in the first we where solid then we went for a free skate in our own end until the last 5 minutes of the second that is the facts and to add to that Thomas was shit he made one good save but flopped around for 3 bad goals and then we got some rare luck to tie the game or we would have still lost. first of all fallse u must have been watchin the wrong team....cuz all last year we didnt have one good period...there was 3 and half mins of bad play thats it other than that carey price was outstandin...we played a good game against a dominate period... and 2 of there 3 goals thomas didnt know were the puck was....stick to something you know...which is absolutely nothin

Well that 1 point is one more point than we had all of last year vs. the Habs.

Tough call on the Wideman penalty by not making it matching minors, which led to their first goal. Second goal one of our guys was cleared out in front of the net from a cross-check from behind (no call and goal immediately followed). Third goal short-handed shame on us.

I love the Montreal's players qoute I read this morning saying "we played to their level in the last two periods." When we are at our best defensively they shouldn't be controlling the puck and have open spaces.

On too Ottawa just keep on improving.

I am a big fan of that Montreal player's quote, if that is in fact what he said.

I would like to hear his thoughts on why, as a a team, they fall down around players on the other team even when there is no apparent cause. Perhaps they just forget to sharpen their skates?

The B's honestly need to make the games against Montreal super-physical. The Habs have got some guys that can bang around with the best of them, but their forwards are skill players that like their space to move. The Bruins need to hammer those forwards every chance they get, and slow their game down. Maybe Looch and Komisarek would have a go.

Thomas in all honesty looked good, but needs to control the puck a bit better. Maybe he should have had one or two of those back, but we left him with plenty of Habs scoring chances. I have not lost condfidence that he will lead us to the playoffs.

The Bruins were the better team, but if there is something we need to work on its our PK, and ceasing to take stupid penalties.

if pj axelsson is the best defensive player that the nhl has seen in its 100 years of existence, then why does he hurt the pk not make it better ?????

jefe77 is right!! the team looked good, need to pick it up alittle and hit the net more had alot of wide shots. But this all will come in time, remember it is only the 3rd game of the season!! stay out of the box we would of beat the habs 3-1. Fallse ontario study the game learn the game then comment on it, solong from michigan

I agree Jefe. Thomas, although good, did have some issues controlling rebounds in the first. Chalk it up to rust (let's hope) and move on. I love watching the habs/Bs.. even my wife (not a big hockey fan) said "How can you watch this? It's too intense"!

:-)

That is why.

PJ is probably feeling the pressure of playing on the first line, and not used to expending that much energy before killing penalties. Imagine having to keep up with Marc Savard...

Which leads me to my next point; he is responsible and adds a good defensive balance to that line, but I still dont like it. He may have helped in setting up a few goals, but he can do that on the checking line. Let him play his role, and he will contribute to the Bruins winning.

Dont tell me to study the game. I dont mind you defending our team but half you guys need to be more honest with whats going on out there. YES our D could have been better but still 80 percent of the goalies out there would saved those 3 goals he is over playing the puck witch is making him flop all over the place give up bad rebounds witch also makes our D panic. yes it could be rust but atleast I have the balls to say the truth. JEFFEY 77 I almost always agree with you but I dont how you can say 7 goals in 2 games is good goaltending . Fallse Ontario

First of all PJ can keep up with Savard, Savvy isn't exactly a speedster out there. He's just very agile and intelligent both on and off the puck, as was evident in the game. Secondly, when the B's play the habs we just need Lucic all over Komisarek in the offensive zone, even on the first shift Julien slid Lucic into the first line and the first time down the ice he smashed Komisarek. you could tell how in his head he was, and when the ref gave the double 10-minute misconduct... I'll take that any day when its Lucic for us and the opposing team's best shut-down defenseman. Good job Lucic, he should get the hardhat for that game.

Blogger Jefe77 said...

When I meant "keep up" with Savard, I was mostly referring to his cycling and passing in the offensive zone. Not and end to end race. I don't think PJ has the offensive dynamic to play as a first line left wing all season.

Fallse, 7 goals in 2 games is not good for Thomas, but our D was awful against Colorado, and yes, he should have been better vs. the Habs. I always felt goaltending was the most difficult position to get back to the speed of the NHL, lets hope that is the case with Thomas, only 2 games in.

would you rather have pj or jeremy reich? those are your options right now. i'll take pj.

see him take that hit vs. the habs?

here's an idea... why not pull up tuuka and put him in? a goalie that actually knows how to save the puck! what was his GAA in the preseason? seriously. i think he is about ready now... at least a lot more ready than thomas or fernandez. maybe they need a little more "experience" in the ahl.

well mook, i would rather have nokelainen play than pj. i would also choose marchard, karsums, and st pierre from providence before him. there are many players i would rather see on this roster, but no reich is not one of them.

yes i saw that hit and he is apparently injured AGAIN. this guy gets hurt every single year. i would be suprised to see jd axelsson miss 20-30 games again.

Fernandez is in tonight, thats a good thing at least we wont see any breast stroking out there. I agree that Tuuka Rask is ready but its going to cost us a 3 million cap hit. Lets just give Manny a chance for a couple games and if his knee holds up I think he mite surprise us. Plus I dont see how it makes sense sitting 4 million bucks on the bench if hes not able to get back to form then wavie him and pay him in the minnors just like Scheafer. Fallse Ontario

pj is a better player than everyone you have mentioned (at this point). nokelainen is a very good potential star, but if you asked me who i would rather have on the pk against ottawa's powerplay (heatly, alfredsson and spezza) i would definitely say pj axelsson.

i agree that he should not be on the #1 line, but julien is a good coach and obviously knows/sees something we don't (which is probably why he is the coach, and we're not).

in short, if you want to crap on pj consider this: wtf do you know anyway? pj makes 3 mil per year, you make whatever arby's pays you. pj was also a big part of the 2006 olympic team win (and yes, he was on the checking line). obviously a good player.

once kobasew gets back into the lineup, where do you think pj will play? probably with krejci on line #3 (he plays the pk with krejci...so this is safe to assume).

3:55 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

actually mr mook, pj makes 1.85 million per season. sorry not all of us work at arby's like you and are miserable because you pull in a 200 dollar pay check per week. axelsson must be related to jd drew when it comes to injuries, every little bump and bruise keeps them both out, except axelsson does not produce anything, where as drew does. PJ is overrated defensively and is a God awful skater, I would actually prefer Lucic's skating over his, which is not sayin much at all. watch the pk, hes always the one of the ice when the opponent scores. he hurts the 1st line on many occasions especially when he stands at the blue line when we already have two defensemen at the point. sorry that has never worked and probably never will, you score from in front of the net, not the blueline. you love him because the broadcasters love him, learn to be objective and critical when it is required. pj once was a great player for this team (when he played on a line with rolston and lapointe or taylor and damaio, however, that time has expired and he simply does not have it anymore. theres 17 minutes left in the 3rd period against ottawa right now and I love how the bruins are playing. Every line is looking good offensively and you buddy pj is home with a booboo.

Under very säkra källor är Pers Johan Pebben Axelsson på väg home to Frölunda and Göteborg. What self vet så find the nothing nail date för när he tänkt come home but the ska product this året under källorna. Självklart able the ändras för the går ju fast in NHL så the able the very väl become så that he fails där if Boston ors någon other club shall had kvar him. What able he då tillföra Frölunda? Mass är answer! He has one really large Frölundahjärta defiance that he has act så länge in NHL and his routine and defensiva caliber tin be very good för Indianerna. Wes följer this with interest.

"According to very reliable sources, Per Johan "Pebben" Axelsson is coming home to Frölunda and Gothenburg. The information comes from multiple sources, including people working for Frölunda, which makes this rumor very interesting. From what I know there is no date set for when he's coming home, but it is this year according to the sources.

Of course this change since it all happens fast in the NHL, so he could just as easily stay there if Boston or some other club are still interested in him."

Wow if this is true, I wonder what happened?

Great game lastnight against Ottawa. The team looked real good, they played a hard 60 minutes and everybody was going. Manny let up a shaky one again, and look at how much confidence this guy has in himself.

"The team now realizes that they have to play a strong game when I'm back there," Fernandez said

This guy is a total headcase, who knows if he'll ever get back to being a #1 goalie.

i'm just saying pj is a better option in some scenarios than what we have. i agree he shouldn't be on the #1 line, but i like him on the pk. if he were traded for a bag of pucks, i wouldn't care...but since you pointed-out that he only makes 1.85 mil (and not 3 mil, which is REALLY important when comparing that to your arby's salary -- sarcasm alert) he is a cheap commodity and worth his money at the very least. i said it all year, detroit would love pj.

i think what i'm really trying to say is that we have crappier players that you could pick on before pj. also, before the season started i said pj doesn't fit on this team anymore on this blog, and all you dickheads jumped all over me saying stuff like "julien plays defensive hockey so we need him" and "our team plays the trap" (which it doesn't).

i can't wait for all you couchlards to try and explain trap hockey and how we DO play it (which, again, we don't).

AND FOR THE RECORD: people who are at home on saturday nights(17 mins left in the third, i'm at home in my underwear getting ready for the salami hustle)fighting about who knows hockey better on this blog shouldn't be tossing stones! pj would be proud.

Besides Chara and the waste of money towards Manny the multiple Mid-to-low salaries are what make this team great. LOTS OF DEPTH. PJ included ...just not on the first line.

whats the point to have Heatley, Spezza, Alfredssson and then 3 shitty lines?

Fallse Frolunda,...there is this thing called an NHL contract. PJ, happens to be under the restriction of this sort of contract, which requires him to play for the team in which the contract exists between it and himself.

Fallse Ontario, PJ is a decent hockey player. I am not going to repeat myself, as everyone is entitled to opinions, but frankly, its getting quite annoying reading all the complaints about a player who has earned his keep with this team by contributing consistently for 10 seasons.

Mook makes a good point; a cup contender would grab PJ to fill a 3rd line duty in a heartbeat. So what should we do? Play him on the 3rd line where he belongs...

Lets give it up for Lucic's first of the season, but I would also like to commend Sobotka's hard work in the corners. The kid does not care who or what is in his way.

Bruinsfan35; You nailed it on Manny. The guy reeks of a goalie hoping for the team to bring him a win. Tim Thomas...the guy THRIVES on saves. He loves them. Manny looks scared.

That first one...shit...Timmy may have let up a strange bounce or two a couple games. But christ on a crooked crutch, that first goal Manny let in looked amateur.

Dont know about you guys, but when there is a cross crease pass, I DONT see Manny anywhere NEAR being in position to stop it. Timmy may not have form, but FUCK form. Its all about technique.

Good thing our D played well and beyond its best game this season.

Timmy would have shut them out.

The B's continue to impress. They had the better scoring chances, just ran into a hot goalie. The defense played another real good game too I thought.

I've been real impressed with Kessel this year, if he can ride this hot streak he should have no problem hitting the 20 if not 30 goal mark this year. Has anybody else been disappointed with Wheeler. I realize expectations were probably a little high for, but I barely notice him out there. That being said I can't wait to see what they can do tonight against the Sabres.

Anyone else at the game?

1. They forgot to announce Mark Stuart and it was fuckin hilarious.

2. The retired numbers are in a messed up order? 2 3 4 5 7 9 15 8 24 77 somethin like that.

About the game too many scoring chances that went into the goalies chest, sometimes with out bodies in front, without pickin corners. Plus we weren't there on some juicy rebounds.

I wasn't there, but I saw them skip over Mark Stuart in the introductions. I was thinking how bad that must suck for him, since they do that like once a year.

JEFFE 77 Slow dont and read all I said was that our first line can play D without PJ . Im saying that cause you and other guys in here think for some reason thats the only reason why hes on the 1st line is to cover all the defensive responsibiltys witch too me is a load of shit. I see savvy and ryder or kessel back all the time breaking up plays so give it up already. Fernandez can get cross crease passes he is a very good butterfly goalie and thats what there good at not flopping across that if he saves it, it would look harder then it really was . ......... Like last night when he gets his stick stuck under his pad and he cant save that goal after he gives up another bad rebound. Fernandez only needs time and has to work on challenging the shooter and his positioning but know one in here wants to give him a chance....... Fallse Ontario

I have to admit I was wrong about Kessel - I posted many times to trade him for a box of hammer handles. So far he has played well. I think they need to pull the trigger yet on one good defenceman and one winger to take us over the top to be a serious contender. Wait for another 10 - 15 games and decide who will be the number one goalie and dump the other - bring Rask up to fill in the backup role for the balance of the season.

Fallse Ontario,

I agree, I think our first line can play good D without PJ. I dont think he belongs there, and we should really focus on goal output for our first line.

On Manny, yes, he does need time. Nothing gets a goalie in NHL condition, like NHL games.

Iv'e crumbed on Manny here many a time. Thats mostly due to his cap hit, and my feelings that Tim Thomas wants it more than him. he has a great butterfly, and is big in the net. What I see in the bigger picture, is Timmy with a >$4Million dollar goalie backing him up, until Rask is ready.

Were stuck with Manny, until he either suffers a season ending injury or creates enough upside to be traded (LA). But until then, do I want Manny to succeed? Yes! Do I want him to challenge Timmy? Yes! I am merely a realist, and that 4 mill in cap space REEKS of dough contributing to the contract of another quality D man.

I cant hate any Bruins. My fourth favorite center in the NHL, is the Bruins 4th line center. My freinds think I'm sick.
