Olympics Preview : Canada and Czech

Here are potential lineups for team Canada and Czech. Milan Lucic has been invited to camp but his chances of making the team are slim. It would be great to see Lucic in his hometown of Vancouver representing his country, but he is young and team Canada is stacked with allstars. I hope I'm wrong, but I am leaving him off my roster, for now. Additionally, Marc Savard was not invited to Team Canada's camp. While that does not mean he will not make the team, it is a sign that GM Steve Yzerman is not considering him at this time. If an injury to a center arises, I fully expect Savard to get strong consideration for a spot. However, since Team Canada has so many centers, I put three of them on the wings, assuming Yzerman will choose the best players rather than the best lineup. It will be interesting to see how Team Canada is actually selected. I also did not include Scott Niedemrmayer because he may retire this season and therefore would not take part in the Olympics. Team Czech does not have the depth that Canada, Russia, or the U.S. rosters have, but they cannot be counted out because they have some very good players especially on their top lines. David Krejci is centering the first line, while Robert Lang is not included on this team because of his injury/retirement status for the upcoming season.

Anon, no lecavalier or staal? no thorton as a starter? perry on the 2nd line?

i agree, think richards should be in the lineup. no thanks for mike green though, guy is a fourth forward out there. his defense, or lack there of, was exposed badly in the playoffs last season.

james, i think staal and lecavalier are great players but there are so many better options out there for cnaada. i mean both of these guys had about 70 points this season...it just doesnt cut it. lecavalier, i admit coulb be interesting as the 13th forward because of his versatlity, but staal has no business being on this team in my opinion.
you cant not have green on your roster. sure he's somewhat of a liability defensively but 70+ points and 30+ goals in less than 70 games? he's the best offensive defenseman since leetch. even if he is a "4th forward" he's still better offensively than lecavalier or staal.
thornton and savard are a toss-up for the 4th center position; put either one with those two snipers and you'll get awesome results. i put savard in because this guy deserves some respect, although as a 13th forward, he can easily play with anyone, and him on the PP would be special.
crosby and getzlaf have the first 2center positions locked up, and richards has the checking role locked up.
i honestly consider perry to be an elite player now. while outperforming guys like heatley, staal, lecavalier offensively last season, he brings so much more to the game. the guy can play defense, he's chippy, and can act as a great agitator, and he alwayys gives 100%. that and his chemistry with getzlaf

Im a huge perry fan as well especially after watchin him in the playoffs last season, but id put players like carter, heatley and thornton ahead of it. i think the players who have been there before will get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to playing time, so i could see him not even making the team. richards and doan on the same line is a sick checking line.

I just dont see how Lecavalier cannot not be on the roster. He may be overrated but I would give him a spot over both Thornton and Savard. Staal I'm kind of undecided on, not sure if he belongs there or not but I know he will be there.

it might be just me but since they have so much offense up front theres really not much need for more offense from the defensemen, thats why i dont want green playing. the rest of the d are all sound in all three zones so any of them would give canada a more complete roster imo.
