Axelsson's tenure officially ends today
According to report out of Sweden, P.J. Axelsson has officially signed a four year deal with the Frölunda Indians of the Swedish hockey league, Elitserien. Axelsson will play for former NHL player Ulf Dahlén , the current coach of Frölunda. Axelsson had been the longest active Bruin dating back to the 1997-1998 season. Originally drafted in 1995 with the 177th pick, Axelsson recorded 103 goals and 184 assists in 797 games over his 11 seasons with the Bruins. In 54 career playoff games Axelsson recorded 4 goals and 3 assists.
Thanks to P.J. for all he did for this organization. It was often overlooked at times especially the past 2 seasons where he struggled offensively. He always played hard and can still be considered one of the best penalty killers in the league. Axelsson's departure is likely due to a number of reasons. Chiarelli wants to get bigger, faster, and tougher to play against. While Axelsson is a pest for opposing players, his speed has been on a decline the past few seasons and his size makes him a question in Chiarelli's new philosophy. With the resigning of Byron Bitz and the addition of Steve Begin, both making less then a million, there wasn't much room left for the reliable Swede, especially at a salary similar to what he was making. His smart decision making, pk skills, and his ability to break up plays in the neutral zone will be missed but at the same time it shows the organization is moving forward and following through on their approach .

i wonder how much he's getting.
In other news, Joe Haggerty of WEEI.com was on NECN last night. He stated the Bruins have tried repeatedly to trade Andrew Ference and Chuck Kobasew but there were no takers, which eventually lead to the trade of Aaron Ward. It's hard to believe there was no interest in Kobasew who has a modest cap hit and is good for 20-25 goals a season. Not surprised about Ference especially with his injury history.
So glad there will be no more axelsson experiment on the powerplay, first line, or 1 minute left down by one goal. if he was played in better roles (i.e. fourth line, pk only) im sure everyone would look at him differently.
no one wants ference or kobasew. they both play hard but get injured every single year.not worht the cap hits.
mook there goes your theory of pj signing with detroit for more then he received here in boston.
sorry to see Axe go - He is also a class act along with Ward. As much as I cursed him over the past few years for missing open nets i will miss him for the defencive game he played - I am sure he will be missed in the locker room - he alsways had a positive winning attitude. I wish him luck and I am very happy we will not see him playing against us wearing any other jersey. He deserves to leave and live in the history of the black and gold.
i know i was one of the people here that dogged the shit out of pj the last couple years, but overall, he was a hard worker who always showed up, he got put in a number of positions that i don't think he should have been like pp time, but im sure they asked him to do it, and he followed there orders, at the end of the day, he was a solid player who will always be remembered as a member of the bruins.
that surprises me about not being able to trade kobasew and ference, i know they have the injury problems but ference is a puck moving d-man with a small cap hit and kobasew can put in 20 goals with also a reasonable cap hit, there's got to be some team out there that will take a chance on them.
i really thought with all the guys detroit lost, they'd snag pj...
good. awful hands. no scoring touch. slow. hurt the powerplay.
colorado offered him a one year deal. i would have made the same decision and went to sweden.
good riddance pj. you fuckin bum.
PJ got plenty of offers...
Abbott said he had discussions with several teams in each conference about three-year deals for Axelsson. But those deals were dependent on those teams clearing cap space, which the clubs had trouble shedding. Axelsson then considered one-year offers. But after weighing different factors such as moving from Boston, escrow concerns, and his growing family (Siw, Axelsson's wife, is expecting their second child in October), the career Bruin opted to return to his old team in Sweden. Abbott said the Bruins did not make an offer.
Sorry but as much as you guys want it to look like he went running back to Sweden...that wasn't the case. PJ was a good player...a good 4th line player who was asked to play the PP, top line and everywhere else and did so without complaint. He didn't ask to be on the PP, and from what i heard he would always say things like "i try my best to fill gaps and step-up when the team needs me". Sorry, but i'm sad to see him go. I'd take him over Begin, Thornton and sometimes Wheeler. Hey, call me crazy but he cleared ice and was responsible defensively.
Not saying i want a #11 jersey or anything, but he was a good player and i'd sooner run fernandez and/or montador out of town than pj.
plenty of offers. globe said colorado and ottawa that was it. teams needed to clear salary? haha. obviously his agent is making him look good. thats what agents do. no one wanted this bum. hes a fourth liner who sucks in every department except pking. thank god the bruins moved on. the love for this guy is just retarded and fueled by idiots like dale arnold, jack edwards, and dave lewis
hell of a run pj. he was the best at times (PK), he was the worst at times( the rest of the game). however i'll drink a beer in honor of his year spent in boston.
everyone makes good points except mook.
williss only thinks pj spent a year in boston....so i can see your a big fan huh?
year'SSSSSSSSSSSS
my typos show just how bad of a fan i am. good call buddy.

It's sad that the player with the longest tenure on this team now is Thomas... We'll miss ya P.J.
Now I don't have to listen to everyone bitch all season about one of my favorite all time Bruins.
i might still bitch about him....sorry
From this point forward I am not going to respond to negative posts from "Anonymous". Lets get a name with those awful posts.
big popup tested positive.
Eklund has "Kessel to San Jose (E4) right now... is there some sort of rule for the Bruins trading their homegrown talent to silicon valley?
how do you people still read or listen to eklown?
I don't exactly *listen* to Ek per say, I just happen to see what he's writing and there's been Kessel to SJ rumors all off season so who knows.
eklown also had tanguay to florida e5 last week. last time i checked tanguay isnt on the panthers. he throws up an e5 after tsn posts it on their website, (i.e. today sergei zubov to KHL)
guys a complete joke. he has never gotten a "rumor" right.
he's wrong most of the time - so what. He has more contacts than I do, and even when he's wrong he gives us something to debate right? relax and if he makes you that mad then don't read him - jesus.
either way somethings gotta give right now, we need to either dump some salary or get rid of kessel, and eklund has been right a couple times before.
crosby and malkin to boston
is it october 1st yet?
omg omg did you hear? eklund said cows can fly! holy smokes! ill be sitting by my window all day....
I made a point to listen to some of eklunds hockeybuzz live and he mentioned his "source(s)" claim the kessel deal is already done and the only obstacle is a cap shedding move by the sharks...
to me either he's nuts and he has no sources, or his sources are so sure of their information that they're telling him this. Either way, if it doesn't go down the way these people say, how can Eklund even continue using these "source(s)"
http://hockeybuzzhogwash.com/
Sone of the stats they have:
- For every 1 rumor Eklund gets correct, he gets approximately 30 incorrect (457 wrong, 15 right for 3.1%)
- He finished off 2008 calender year (exactly 1 year of our tracking) with a 2.3% accuracy rating
Stop giving eklund hits on his site.
not that it matters much but Ned Lukacevic, Wacey Rabbit , and Kevin Regan still need to be signed too right? i know its AHL 2 way contracts and they dont mean anything. just curious what people thing
they will probably receive qualifying offers. from there the bruins can decide whether or not to accept that offer. i think thats how it works.
Stop doing this to me... Mook
Just read on Hendricks Hockey that the Islanders are interested in Sturm. This could be the first step in re-signing Kessel. Anyone out in the Hub hear of this rumor?
vince, im assuming you mean that article from the "hockey insider". are you really that gullible? that site is worse then eclowns site. i hope ur just trying to get people going and really arent that retarded.... wow. i think a 12 year old could have written a better "article" than that.
yea but sturm would never waive his ntc to go to the islanders.
also, rumors(besides eklund) are now reporting that kessel is being shopped out west, and the bruins are looking for a roster player, a prospect and a draft pick.
sometimes, and it is very rare, eklund can put you in the right direction in his rumors, even though he is hardly ever right.
Hey Mr. No Name, for your information, Yes I did read the article and from your posting I guess you did as well. I just asked a fucking question and was not trying to get people going. I am guessing you are trying to get people going. I had asked a simple question regarding the rumor. It is a rumor that I was wondering if anyone else had heard of and that was all. Should I just sit hear and dismiss everything out there?
What is it that I should listen to? You? Well since you seem to know everything Bruin, what is their next move? Come on, since you are the insider you have to know what is going to happen.
I guess people have to clear things with Mr. No Name before they ask something on here.
Oh, and Mr. No Name that comment (or rumor) was also on Spector's site. Is he another one that we should also dismiss everything we hear? Eklund is saying that Kessel might be going out West and has not said a thing about the Islanders. Which rumor site is yours Mr. No Name and what are your sources?
let me tell you your sources suck. the "hockey insider" was the worst article i have ever read. couldnt you tellit was bull just from reading it? the guy said im pretty sure patrice bergeron even was on the third line for a few games (guess he missed most of the season then). its like me writing something and putting my name as "hockey insider", no other name just hockey insider (which is what this idiot did). i dont care that your askin opinions its just leave these idiotic websites (hendricks hockey out of it). eklunds a clown and as someone said earlier he gets 2.3 % of his rumors right. spectors the only decent one out there.
dude, shut up, stop bitching, or just leave. no one likes you here. christ all mighty you sound like a whiny little school girl everytime someone makes a post.i live in a house full of women so when i want to get away from that, i still need to hear you have your period all over this blog. you dont know shit about shit.
wilissss your a bigger clown than eklund
Well Mr. No Name if what you say is true regarding that Spector is the only one that is decent then I guess that the Sturm to the Islanders is true. Why don't you put a rumor site out there since you know what you are talking about!
spector says nothing about kessel to the islanders.
i mean sturm
Mr. Fucking No Name - before you start ripping people for passing on a rumor that they heard maybe you should read the post - I said I read it on Hendricks Hockey!! Read the Fuckin Post you asshole!
"Just read on Hendricks Hockey that the Islanders are interested in Sturm. This could be the first step in re-signing Kessel. Anyone out in the Hub hear of this rumor?"
I never once said it was onI Ek site. It was also on Spectors site, but not on Eklunds site. What I did say that was on Eklunds (and other people also said) was Kessel might go to a team in the West.
I hear Mr. No Name's mom calling him up for those little pizzas for dinenr. Get out of your mom's basement and away from the gay porn sites.
And for your info I have asked here many times if anyone has heard anything cause up here in Winnipeg you don't hear much regarding the Bruins. Also if you read the post, I ask if anyone had also heard the rumor.
vince check out what some others have to say about this rumor
http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=668986
Mr. No Name - read the link that you posted. Very good read. Like one of the posters on that link said that he came across the same story I did and figured he would pass it along, much like I did. Then you rip into me calling me gullible.
So what is your name anyway? Are you wanted by the law or what? Why can't you put your name?
one guy said he was going to pass it along. did you also read what the comments were?? eeveryone on there agrees that it is a complete joke. the site is a joke, the article isnt even up there anymore. doesnt that say something?? i dont understand im trying to tell you its bull wake up.
You guys both need to relax. Here I'll settle this:
1. Someone on this team is getting moved. Sturm has a NMC and said he will not waive it.
2. No one knows what's going on with Kessel, so anything in possible.
3. Hendricks Hockey is a wannabe Eklund, but worse.
4. Eklund is a joke as Mook previously stated.
5. Unfortunately, we have a long way to go before the start of the season so play nice boys.
I will miss him alot he his my favorite boston bruin I wish he would come back to the bruins
I will miss him
