Hunwick Resigns

The Bruins have announced that Matt Hunwick has signed a two year contract extension. Hunwick had an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 24th. Under Chiarelli, only one member of the Bruins has gone through arbitration. That member was David Tanabe, but the Bruins declined to sign the arbitration offer, making him a free agent.

UPDATE: The Boston Herald is reporting Hunwick's contract will pay him $1.35 million the first season and $1.55 million in the second year. The cap hit for both seasons will be $1.45 million.

defenseman Elder and the rookie Hodgson. What do u think?

Kessel was just on 640 am in Toronto. He said the gap in differences has stayed about the same, meaning negotiations haven't gotten any closer. Kessel said he hopes to stay but is aware it is a business and players can be traded.

In his case, he has no leverage because he has no arbitration rights and he is coming off of surgery. I can't see the Bruins offering him anywhere close to $5 million which is the number believed he is aiming for. If no team signs him to an offer sheet, I wouldn't be surprised to see a holdout.

Matt Hunwick and the Bruins avoided arbitration with a two-year deal that will pay the defenseman $1.35 million next season and $1.55 million in 2010-11

the herald says...

Thanks Mook, I'll put that up.

Milan Lucic will be a restricted free agent after this season. Unlike Kessel, he will have arbitration rights.
