Pronger to Boston???

According to http://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2009/2/28/775525/trade-deadline-update-w-ja the Bruins agreed to a trade for Chris Pronger. James Murphy is a reliable source who is a guest on NESN Sportsdesk a few times a week. Here is the release from his site. This speculation has not been finalized or confirmed by any other sources.

Just got an update on Pronger deal and it appears Pronger to the Bruins is very real and salary cap issues are the only thing holing it up right now. One interesting twist is that Phil Kessel is currently not the main Bruin going back to Anaheim. I am being told that defenseman Mark Stuart, Prospect Joe Colborne and a first round pick in 2010 would go to Anaheim in exchange for Pronger and forward Travis Moen. Both teams have apparently agreed in principle on a trade.

The deal will also not be announced or finalized until Wednesday, so that each team can iron out the cap issues and maybe make other deals to accommodate this move. Again, I can't get into specifics over the main roster player from Boston. Right now it's not Kessel but that could change, so that's why I can't say whom it is as of now with certainty. There are other teams (I'm told New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington), still pushing hard, but Pronger to Beantown is very real!

If that is the deal ...that is unreal !!

Poor Thomas....brutal goal, but he has made his share of big stops so he was due for a stinker ! Still got a big point !

the bruins played too passive for the final 5 minutes of the game. they had washington back on their heels. julien threw bergerons line out 3 times and then yelles line twice. no krecji line and savards line once.

This trade makes a lot of sense for BOTH teams. It helps the Bruins in a legit Stanley Cup run for the next 2 years.

Anahaim gets a Top 3 D-man who is young and affordable, the Bruins #1 draft pick LAST Season AND the #1 pick next season. It you're rebuilding as the Ducks are--you're getting tremendous value.

Pronger WITH Chara makes the Bruins true Conference favorites and allows them to legitimately compete with Detroit (which just woke up from a 4-month nap and is blowing everyone away) and San Jose.

This DEFINES great trade. It meets the needs of BOTH TEAMs

that would be a good trade for both teams, i like stuart and think he has really started to pick it up, but if your getting a guy like pronger without giving up a player like kessel, than this really puts us over the edge. the only thing is, where do we find the cap room?

Good point!!! What about the cap room? Mr thinks there is more to this - another roster player? If Ax or Nokie - then ok. Otherwise - fuck off.

Anyone else think that Savvy's play is a bit off lately? I know he is a great player, but he really needs to be more selfish & shoot. Our forwards are big enough to out-muscle the other D for a rebound and pick-up the garbage. At the end of the day a garbage goal looks as good as a pretty goal.

Say it ain't true. There is no way the Bruins should make this move. Why sacrfice your future for NOW. I prefer to hang on to Colbourne. Maybe if he was not in the mix, I would like it better. Right now - no way.
On the Montreal Fan 990 network, the Hab fans are defintely getting worried about the Pronger to the B's speculation. They hope that Gainey trys to offer the Ducks Komisarek, Higgins, A 1st round pick and another un-named player to counter the B's.
interesting times!!

i have a feeling bitz will be sent if we make this deal, dont be surprised if we trade pronger at the end of the year, after our cup run to get back some picks and young talent. if this was the deal, not sending kessel, i would do it, but if they want hunwick or sobotka to, tell them to go fist themselves.

Think of the D pairings if this happens

Chara-Wideman
Ference-Pronger
Hunwick-Ward

or
Chara-Ward
Pronger-Wideman
Ference-Hnidy

I personally like the first pairing. pronger is much more effective on the right side. keep hunwick in the lineup for a puckmoving d on the third pair with ward. have hnidy first guy off the bench. i like having chara and wideman together, it makes chara handle the puck less.

I just don't see this making sense cap wise and are biggest need is another LW on the Bergeron Kobasew line where his left-handed shot could be used on the PP. Yes Pronger is a HUGE upgrade from Stuart and the first-round pick will be very late, but Joe Colborne is a great prospect, and just want him in the farm system for the future. I just can't see the Bs success of minimal high salaries and lots of depth go to waste.

NO DEAL.

Erik Cole for Sobotka and Pick.

people can hate on axe all they want, but he was one of our best players on the ice today, this is rare i know, but he really did step it up. i dont think we need a left winger to replace sturm, i would be happy with hunwick or sobotka playing the left wing with kobasew and bergeron. they both play hard and with grit. adding pronger if it would only cost us what is reported i would be fine with that. it is a lot of young talent, but pronger would put us over the edge. this is our year, and we could still trade pronger at the end of the year to get lots of our young talent back.

Don't get too excited over the Pronger trade. Pierre LeBrun on Hockey Night in Canada's hot stove league just stated that the Bruins have backed away from the Duck's asking price and that they are looking elsewhere. The targeted player is now Kaberle of the leafs - Brian Burke was at the Bruins game today. No word yet on who may be going the other way.

easy on the kaberle talk, thats not official at all, they only said that burke was at the game, he just as easily could have been scouting the caps. but JAMES MURPHY IS A FUCKING RETARD, i would not take anything he says as a possibility.

"Boston has been rumored as another possibility for Pronger, but we were told Saturday the Bruins are no longer in the running. That could change again between now and Wednesday, but we were told the Bruins had their sights set on another blueliner."

I pray and hope we dont give up all of that for Pronger. He is almost done maybe 2 years left and he is not the answer. Too expensive and too costly. We would be way better off with Morris, cheaper and almost as good, while not costing so much to get him.

Stuart is playing well, and Colbourne will star in this league.

Most I would pay is Lashoff, Axe and a 3rd for Pronger and Moen.
