Bruins, Avs close on a deal??

The Fourth Period
It's been widely reported that the Avs are receiving interest for the likes of Ryan Smyth, Milan Hejduk, Jordan Leopold, Ian Laperriere and Ruslan Salei, to name a few.

Smyth and Hejduk have no-trade clauses in their respective contracts, but the belief is GM Francois Giguere is looking to shed some salary and could try to move either player.

The Denver Post reported this evening that the Avalanche is rumored to be close to a multi-player trade, with the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins being mentioned as a possible dance partner.

Boston, meanwhile, has reportedly spoken to the Avs about Leopold and forward Marek Svatos.

It doesn't make sense for the Bruins to go after a guy like Svatos. He's a smaller forward (5'10", 185 pounds) and shoots righty, two things the Bruins are trying to improve on. Leopold's name continues to come up and seems like a potential target. If the Bruins were to acquire Leopold it would be interesting to see what happens with current defensemen like Ference, Stuart, Hunwick and Hnidy. One of the four is likely to be sent out. The name I like is Laperierre, who is available at low cost (fourth round pick maybe?). Slot him on the fourth line with Yelle and Thornton and that is one tough line to play against come playoff time. The Bruins would still need to improve their leftwing depth which is their major weakness.

fuck that...we dont need defense, we need a left winger if anything. but i dont think we have to make a move at all. but if we do i would love to see a big lefty brought in to play with bergy and kobasew, but if not i think we should give sobotka a longer look on that line. hopefully the only guy we are seriously looking at is laperierre, he would be a great veteran addition.

I seriously dont understand this recent obsession with Ian Laperrierre. The Bruins do not need another 4th line fighter like thornton and bitz are.

Anyone hear about the rumor of Smyth & Leopold to the Bruins for Fernandez, Ax & an un-named defencman?
Does not appear to make much sense cap-wise as Smyth's cap hit is $6.25 for the next 3 years. Leopold's cap hit would be minimal. He is earning $1.50M and is an UFA at year end. Manny + Ax are also UFA's at year end and they earned a combined $6.3M this year. On the surface the numbers are equitable, however the B's must still sign Thomas, Krecji & Kessel. Smyth would be a great addition though if he were to wave his no-trade clause & PC could wiggle him in to next year's cap #'s.

Send a pick to St. Louis for Tkachuk! I think he would be great playing with Bergeron and Kobasew. Not to mention on the PP crashing the net!!

Have to agree....Laperierre....why ??? Reich can do the same thing for way cheaper and don't have to give anything up. Get a scorer...or nothing !

What ever happened to Cole coming over to the Bruins?

Only 6 more days till Christmas...

Does anyone really think the Bruins are going to do anything?

Reich isn't a veteran like Laperierre is, and he's not a "4th line fighter". He's obnoxious to play against, can get under a guy's skin, and will actually fight to back it up.
He's a huge upgrade over a guy like Reich and I hate to say it, because I like what he does - Byron Bitz.

i dont think manny is going anywhere. who are they going to call up? sigalet? they wont ruin rask...he needs to play (and not ride pine).

they'll trade manny only if they get something really good back...and it's not cole or tkachuk.

eklund says brendan witt...does that make sense to anyone?

Leapold with anyone of our current D-men... It might cost us but you cant have enough D-men in the playoffs...

Axelsson isnt going anywhere... he a has a NO TRADE CLAUSE and I cant see him waiving it for a non-contender!!!!

As far as forwards go we don't need a 4th liner.... We need a 3rd liner & Some PP depth... As far as chemistry goes, Bergeron can help and/ or adapt to anyone playing with him... I think a cole or Tkachuk trade needs to happen and for not much more than a pick or two... Laperierre makes no sense at all even if he's a Veteran...

Where did Veterans get the Bruins in 2004? The team all ready has plenty of veterans with playoff experience.

According to hockeyleaks.com- The Bruins are apparently willing to deal Kessel if they can land a top puck moving defenseman. The team has expressed interest in both Kaberle and Pronger.

if they move kessel that would be the dumbest thing they can do. he has great chemistry with savard, and if he did not get mono i think he could have easily gotten to 50 goals with the tear he was on. we wont give up our best goal scorer, and goal scorer of the future for a rental puck moving d-man right before the playoffs. fuck that!

Is it just me or does Eric Cole seem to be the Marion Hossa of 09? On every rumor site he is going to a different team. So far I have seen almost every East team. I didn't think he was that good that every team wanted him.

Kessel for Pronger = No
Axe & Manny for Pronger = I might do, if we could sign Pronger for an extra 2.

Any idea of who else we are looking at? Up here in Manitoba we don't hear much of anything else but Toronto, Habs and Canucks.

Who would everyone like to see on the Bruins for a possible cup run?

My thoughts.....Tkachuk or Guerin ( if avail.) type is all we need. In saying that, not giving up much to get either.

This team is solid when on the right page, last 2 games as an example. Hunwick is very capable of stepping in and doing fine. Manny needs to stay...have to have both goalies available for long play-off run !

vince did you just say you might trade manny and axe for pronger, if thats is all it would take then i think anyone with half a brain would do that. but i do agree that we should not trade kessel, the rumors that kessel might be traded make me nervous. this would be a bonehead move by chia.

after a couple of 6 goal games, look at all you getting more conservative with what you would give-up for players.
every year it's the same thing, but this year it's worse because the b's are doing well and all you cockheads come out of the woodwork. this time, last year i think there were 3 or 4 people on this blog...this year it's like someone put a big rainbow on this site...look at all the festive anonymous posters! got bored of standing on top of that firetruck with your super soaker?

pj has a no trade clause, but he could still be put on waivers or sent to providence. not happening anyways.

we don't need defense, Hunwick is playing great.
Chara-Wideman
Stuart- Ference
Hunwick-(Hnidy,Ward)
the point is that our defense is probably one of the strongest in the NHL, if the B's were to do any sort of trade it would be for a left wing. Our fourth line seems solid. Yelle, Thornton, give it every they got every shift, and Bitz is getting hot. Honestly if the Bruins didn't do anything before the trade deadline it wouldn't upset me. I'm just sick of pj. Yea he is a great penalty killer, but when he is on a line with Bergy and Chuck, two gifted offense men, he can't match their speed. If they had another decent winger with them that line could be as lethal as any other. That would be the only move I see the Bruins making.

Pronger talk is sure heating up today....with Kessel going the other way ! This is a tough one ! Pronger is nasty, great on P.P. and would be a FORCE with Z !! On the other hand he is 34 ???

This is truly a tough one.....

It would be tough to let Kessel go but on the other hand Pronger would make this team a favorite for the cup. They could always sign Kessel when he is a UFA - Likely they would not be able to sign all the UFA end of this year - someone will have to be let go. I think Wheeler - Krejci and Thomas are must signs. I think Wheeler has more potential than Kessel. The bruins would be more of a cup threat with Pronger than with Kessel.

what are you talking about? the bruins strength is having balanced lines, we give up kessel and we dont get better because there would be a hole on offense. remember what happened when ryder was out of the lineup? we were brutal. kessel is better and would probably have 50 goals if not for mono. they would also want a top prospect and a first round pick for pronger. fuck that. not worth it, hope chia is smarter than that. i dont know why anybody would want to change a team that has played so well this year.

If they make a big splash for a D-ma... I'd rather see them go after Bouwmeester. Throw together a package of Stuart, Karsums, Hamill, a 1st and a 2nd (next year).... only if we can get permission to negotiate a deal with Jay before signing off on the deal so we can get him long term.
