Cole update

From todays Herald:

Rumors persist that the Bruins will acquire gritty veteran winger Erik Cole from the Edmonton Oilers, with one NHL source saying Cole is telling friends he expects to be a Bruin soon. Most speculation focused on Sobotka and defenseman Matt Lashoff as trade bait for the unrestricted free agent-to-be. Speculation also continues that Colorado defenseman Jordan Leopold could be heading to the B’s. . .

Despite the weak season Cole is having, he would be an excellent addition to the Bruins. It would give the Bruins size and the much needed left handed shot. Adding Cole would finally get Axelsson off the powerplay. Sobotka and Lashoff seem like a lot to give up for Cole. If it is a similar deal to the Schneider deal (2nd and a 3rd minus a conditional) I would pull the trigger.

Do it now! lashoff seems like a bust and im tired of waiting for him. I really like Sobatka so if they coudl send a pick instead i would rather have that. Picks take too long to develop and Bruins have plenty in the farm. What about even sending Nokkelain

Matt Lashoff should be our biggest peice of bait. He is good, but Hunwick is better.

What makes the most sense, would be a 2nd rounder along with Lashoff.

But Im not PC, so i sit, and i wait.

really james, you want to send pj and a 2nd rounder for cole. i want to get rid of pj as bad as anybody, only because i dont feel like he is useful to us anymore. but why would edmonton want pj?

hahah, wishful thinking. you're right though edmonton probably would never want axelsson. Axelsson in my mind simply doesn't fit in well with this team. no size, grit, offensive ability. There is no longer a need for the "defensive specialist" in this league. players now need to be able to play in all three zones see savard, wheeler, krejci, bergeron, kessel, kobasew. i think more teams are looking for the overall talent rather then just having the offensive or the defensive.

its probably unlikely, but if we got cole i would love to see someone like zack stortini come with him to play with yelle and thornton. there are not any rumors about anybody else coming from edmonton with cole, but if we really gave up lashoff, sobotka and a draft pick, i think we should get something a little more than cole.

sobotka is a late bloomer, they guy will be real gooood real soooon. id hold off on pulling the trigger. cole is washed up. we are the best team in the east for a reason..why mess it up? GRANTED sobotka has little to do with that fact but hes solid when there is an injury. id bring him up for good, give pj the healthy scratch or just let hunwick play winger

Okay. Zack Stortini is not a good hockey player. He can't fight to save his life, and he runs around trying to hit everything that moves. Although that sounds awesome, when you show no skill at all doing anything else, you look like a goof on the ice.

I live in Edmonton, and from what I've heard they need more grit in their lineup. Axelsson wouldn't do much for them, but Sobotka definitely would. Sobotka and a 2nd rounder, maybe with a conditional pick depending on the playoffs for cole.

I'll believe the Bruins will make a move when I see it. I would love for PC to make a move or two and better our club, but I have this deep fear that he will stand pat and go with what he has.

Although we might go deep in the playoffs, we would all be thinking - could we have done it if we picked up so and so?

Bench PJ and let's see how we do.

good article: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=267535&lid=sublink03&lpos=headlines_nhl

talks about the bruins prospects and future bruin lineups. a lot to be excited about...i'd hate to throw it all away for cole.

i still dont think that cole is worth giving up sobotka lashoff and a pick alone. we would need to get more than that to make it a good trade. i think stortini would be a good character guy for the bruins. he does not have lots of talent, but he brings something that yelle axe or even bitz could not bring to the fourth line, more toughness. in the playoffs we will need to rough up teams to get an edge. it might not be enough to beat the devils or capitals skill vs skill. we need that toughness.

If Cole is to come our way, I hope that we do not lose Sobotka. He is very promising and plays his heart out with a gritty style every shift. That attribute is desparately needed come playoff time. I would prefer to lose Lashoff & Noklelainen.

i hate this cole trade. i would love to have cole but not for sobotka and lashoff and a pick. cole is not that good. i think if sobota was playing on the top three lines with the b's all year he would have more than 12 goals. he is only a rental anyways. if your going to give up that much, get tkachuk.

Habhater,

Agreed. Giving up Sobotka is way too much for a rental player. Nokelainen and Lashoff sounds good to me. Where do I sign?
