B's now completely irrevlavent in Boston

1) Red Sox. Has been this way for years. The Sox will continue to dominate headlines for decades.

2) Patriots. Used to be the bottom, but now with 3 SB rings, Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi, they are tops in the headlines. Adding Adalius Thomas and...Randy "bleeping" Moss doesn't hurt either.

3) Celtics. Was a toss up between the B's, but from about a month ago from wait a few years, to now title competitive for the next 4 seasons. Adding Ray Allen on draft night, and today added Kevin Garnett. That's Pierce, Garnett and Allen. Now the Celts will be top of the headlines as well.

The B's are clearly last. Now that isn't to say if they start to win it'll stay that way, but the media wants wins and names. The B's don't have any "sexy names" like a Sakic, Forsberg or Luongo. That doesn't help. The team has sucked for the past 10 years, 0 cups since 72. Thats 35 years and counting. So any fans under that age, slim they are, have nothing to remember the team by. The B's need results, or soon they will be below the Revolution...and by reading articles in the globe, that may already be the case.

They haven't won a series since Carolina 8 years ago and haven't made the playoffs in 2 years. Hopefully "The other Manny" gets off to a hot start and Bergeron has a breakout year. Here's hoping!

anonymous, obviously you're way overstating what you just said. I would be anonymous as well if I said something like that. You want laughing stock of every sports organization? Go look at the Florida Panthers. Care to go outside the realm of hockey? Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals... You're going to tell me the Bruins are worse off than these teams? C'mon now, clean that up.

Matt, your a columnist here? That sucks.

I got an idea, all you stop watching the Bruins. That way, I dont have to listen to your overly pessimist, completely impatient, unloyal, even retarded statements about players, management, ownerhsip, jerseys, bathroom facilties, and the flavor of the popcorn.

I have watched and ENJOYED the Bruins scince, 82. I am a fan of the team. Many of you, in my opinion do not deserve to call yourself B's fans, and simply enough, if your not proud of the Bruins as a franchise, than get the @&*$@ out of the stadium, take off your jersey, and go WATCH THE RED SOX.

And PLEASE, PLEASE don't completely take back all the BS complaints you have all smattered when things work out. I will hate you all even more.

GO BRUINS.

I wholeheartedly agree that fans need to spend more time being fans and less time being critics, but I will give Matt a little credit. I beleive that he was commenting about the current state of the NHL and of the Boston sports scene in general. I take Matt's less as a bitch session and more as a call to arms to get out there and psych other people up about hockey in Boston.

Matt, too bad I post anonymously because otherwise you'd owe me one.

Yeah thats right jeff no one should be complaining about the Bruins. They haven't won a cup in thirty-five years, haven't won a playoff series in almost ten years, had a couple of bad years after a long lock-out, blown a three to one lead in the playoffs in the 03-04 season. I'm not even naming all of the lowpoints of the Bruins during Jacobs tenure as the owner. So how dare those so called bruins fans complain about this great organization run by a great owner.

Matt said "So any fans under that age, slim they are, have nothing to remember the team by."

Tell that to Cam Neely. Tell him your a Bruins fan. Watch him first laugh, then grit his teeth at you in TOTAL disgust. I dare you.

Its the fans who contribute the a big problem in Boston. I dont know if any of you remember (if you watch at all) last year when they beat Montreal at home, and all the players could comment about was how uplifting it was to actually hear a cheering crowd. They couldnt get over it.

How dare those fans? Why not remove them? They dont like the team, real fans dont want complainers who have no appreciation for hockey in Boston.

Just leave. Go. Watch baseball until the Sox suck, then complain about them and their 86 year drought. Then complain about the Celtics fall from grace, and dont forget to bitch about how bad the Pats had been for so many years. That will put you right where you belong. As fans who only care for teams when they win. Guess what? Thats not being a fan. Its too bad that the Boston sports market is right there with California sports fans. Front runner fans.

I am a die hard B's fan. I would rather see them win, but they're in my blood at this point. I love them and will continue to root for them until the day I die. I can't say I always agree with moves that are made by management, but these are often business decisions and a lot of times, other teams have to be interested in what's being offered. If I lived in Boston, I would do everything in my power to be out there for every game and I still wear my B's Jersey with pride. Even when they do miss the playoffs.

I was at the game Dec. 23 2006 at home vs. Montreal. In case you guys weren't aware, when Montreal is in town now, the new garden has a feeling of the old Olympic Stadium for an expos game when the Red Sox were in town. There were about 5k to 7k Canadians fans who all came down for the game. Now tell me when that would have happened at the old garden... The B's end up winning the game 3-1 and the place went nuts. Players were happy, fans were happy and hockey was fun again. When jaded grumpy people go to the games and then bitch and moan, that doesn't help recruit new fans and create a culture to be proud of and make players WANT to come to Boston.

Yeah, sure. Insults throwing. It add a lot of credibility to your post. The B's are irrevelant in Boston, right now and that's the simple and hard truth. While the Sox and the Celtics acquired high end players to win, the B's traded JT. The Bruins won't be on the major sports radar until Jacobs show a committment to build a contender which mean that he will have to put his EGO aside and hire competent peoples ( and paid them accordingly ) to run the show. Since dumbass Jr is schedule to be in charge soon, don't expect things to change.

Pessimism? Matt? Sure... The B's did nothing to win a championship since 1972 and when they had a chance to do so, they refused to pay/trade for players who could helped the team to reach the next level. Be Careful before taxing someone with a " i don't like your pessimism ". You sound like a kool-aid drinker when you do so...

By the way, anyone who watch, buy stuff or tickets is a fan and are entitled to their opinions.

I am not bitching in any case, but the truth is, media wise, the Bruins are irrevlavent. The fan base isn't very good. How many kids do you see going around with Bruins gear? Barely any. They all have Pats and Celts and Red Sox gear. Many of the dire hard fans are somewhat older. There are still younger fans who like the team. This has do due with no cups in 35 years, 1 final since. Sure, we loved the big bad Bruins, but they were fun to watch and see them kick the shit out of people. I am hopeing the B's win a cup this season. It probably won't happen.

The point is, many people could give a rats ass about the Bruins. There are the diehard fans like us, but the sad truth is, the bruins are the 4th team. Until the Bruins win, it'll be that way.

10:44 PM

NHL is the 4th league, however in the Northeast with the best collegiate and high school hockey in the country the community needs to get behind the team. They need to lower ticket prices and continue to roll out grass roots marketing to capture more youthful fans. You are nuts if you think the B's can contend with Pats and Sox for media attention in Boston. Its not about competing in the media, its about creating a culture and bringing a viable, winning and accessible product to sports fans that can't get tickets to Sox or Pats games...

Jeff,

Your claim that people who bitch and moan aren't real fans is ridiculous. In fact, being an eternal optimist under any condition could be worse. I believe Steve Buckley calls those people "pink hats."

I've been watching the B's since I was born. Any person who is a fan can reserve the right to bitch and moan about the team if they see fit. Complaining and calling out a team that has made failed move after failed move doesn't constitute a person as a non-fan. Matt makes a freakin' website dedicated to the Bruins so people like you can go on and talk about the team. If anything, that makes him more of a fan that you because he gave you this forum to call people out in.

Get a clue, if a fan of the team complains, they're still a fan of the team. When the team is bad, they'll be there watching. When the team is good, they'll be there watching. I'm just as loyal as you are, but you have to admit when things are bad.

And another thing, I'm rather content with the state of the bathrooms in the Garden.

jha, you said it perfectly IMO. I love the game of hockey, and I love the Bruins. I dislike it when they lose, and it irks me even more when it seems they're not doing all they can to put more than just a "competitive" team on the ice (and they can't always do THAT right).

Pehraps I could argue that some are upset and complaining because they care more, and maybe that makes them a BETTER fan.... The Bruins could be so much more, and they just want to see that.

My 2 cents.....

I love the Bruins, I come to at leat 3 games a year from New Brunswick Canada. If you think think people complain about the Bruins you all should go on TSN.ca widway through the NHL season an watch all the Leaf fans bash the team. I couldn't believe how people bashed Raycroft the way they did after the big comeback he had..over 30 wins. I was at the game in Boston when he got hurt and had to leave the game. Bruins lost 5-4 but it would of been 5-0 if he hadn't of gotten hurt. I was also at a Pats/ Bills game 2 years ago (Bruschi first game back) I sat behind a group of guys doing nothing but complaining about the Pats because they were losing. Pats won in the 4ht quarter and these guys were like totally different fans. Complaining is just the nature of all sports and can't be helped. As much as we love it when they win we all complain when they lose.

The Boston Globe had a story about the top 10 reasons its great to be a Boston sports fan. #10 The Bruins aren't playing. If that isn't telling of the atmosphere concerning the bruins then I don't know what does. They have become an afterthought in this town and until they start winning thats just what they will stay.

The degradation of the Bruins found on this website is the worst Bruin bashing I have ever found by B's fans.

The Bruins have always garnished pride from its fans with its atmosphere of character and overachievement. Now the team and its fans are at its lowest point. Congratulations, were as bad as the team.

We skewer the team, we bring down morale, we leave empty seats. Fans are not helping anything.

When I come on this board and read;

"the bruins the laughin stock of every sports organization"

"the bruins are irrelavant"

"Hey, at least we have the Lobsters (tennis)and Cannons (lacrosse) beat. "

"This has do due with no cups in 35 years, 1 final since. ( wasnt that 2 finals Matt?)"

I think to myself, I have suffered enough greif with the rest of the bruins fans. The last damn thing we need now, is for tards to start a disease of disrespect by breaking down everything we have stood for. Yeah, I bitch and moan when the B's suck, which has been quite a bit the last 10 years. What I dont do, is wear a giant tattoo that says "THE BRUINS SUCK, HAVE GIVEN US NOTHING". Go yell it around to everyone and tell everyone as you laugh what a cirus of a joke the Boston Bruins are.

Why dont you all think about this quote today. It comes from Ian Wilson, Cheif Reporter for the Boston Herald.

Jeff, I have been a fan for over 30 years... since back to when I can remember watching them with my Dad. Do I complain when they make a dumb trade... say... Thornton? Do I moan when they blow a 3-1 series lead and get knocked out in the first round? Do I scratch my head when they give up on a young player to early? And do I support them no matter what? I can answer yes to all of those questions!! I bleed black and gold! And win or lose, I still wear the jersey with pride!
But when some pompous jackass comes on here and tells me and the rest of the fans and supporters that we shouldn't complain so much.... even though we spend our hard earned money to support... and pay... these guys.... I have two words for him!

F@#% OFF!!

I think the money I spend on NHL Center Ice, tickets, jerseys, cards, autographs, posters, t-shirts and every thing else Bruins related gives me the right to express my opinion! And for you.... someone who has NO CLUE about any of us on here... to come on here and try and tell me that I'm not a fan?! Kiss my ass Jeff!!

No matter if the Bruins are in the basement... or Stanley Cup Champions... I'll be there to support them! But at the same time... I'll vent my fustrations any damn time I please! I've earned that right backing them for the last 3 plus decades... and until the day I die!

So if you don't like reading this.... why don't you go read Oprah.com!!

Jeff,

In your attempt to call out Matt on his 1 finals appearance claim, you're completely wrong yourself as well.

5 cup appearances since the last time they won it in '72

74- lost to the Flyers
77- lost to the Canadiens
78- lost to the Canadiens
88- lost to the Oilers
90- lost to the Oilers

You might want to get your facts straight before you go run your mouth and call someone out. You're the pink hat yahoo running around on this site. You really need to face reality sometimes. The Bruins are contenders for a 7th or 8th playoffs spot this year, period.

If you're so concerned about empty seats, go buy your season ticket package. Don't try and tell me ticket prices are too high either because a "real" fan wouldn't complain about something like that, right?

Not after this coming season. I have full confidence that this team is going to be better than last for one reason.. Coaching. The team was so badly coached last year because many of their players were "mos-cast" in roles that they had no business being in including:
Chara
Bergeron
Axelson

just to name a few. This team now has better:
goaltending
coaching
forwards
Than last year and will make the playoffs, but not necessarily be a contender. I can live with that as long as next year they make the moves they need to get 2 steps closer to the cup.

Ive spent plenty of money the last 30 years in every way shape and form on the Bruins, so Ill say whatever the hell I want about all the damn unnappreciative fairweather fans. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, screw anyone who is going to rub the bruins name in the dirt. I didn't say that there was no hopes. But the B's deceived so many times that they will have to be competetive for 2 or 3 years in a row to be seriously consider. On paper, there's no doubt, this team is good. Let's hope that the coaching change will help this team to achieve what she could achieve.

9:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I've NEVER once put the Bruins name in the dirt! Like I have said.... I wear the jersey with pride! I don't care if I lived in California, Colorado or Michigan... This Bruins jersey doesn't come off! To me... they are the BEST DAMN TEAM IN ALL OF SPORTS!! Win or lose.... I'm a Bruins fan! So please do not stereotype everyone!
All Matt was saying is what is being said by the media... and what is obvious! The Bruins, now with the Celtics getting Garnett, ARE the fourth team in the town! It is not putting them down.... it is the truth! If I had a choice, personally, I could live without any sport other then hockey! But the facts are the facts! All three other teams HAVE won Championships since the Bruins last Cup! And who should we fault? The owner! Jacobs is a money hungry stiff, who thinks of profits before production! He expects ALL the fans to be loyal...... but he can not practice what he preaches!
Not to mention.... Hockey... as a whole.... is the fourth sport in the US! And the fault there goes to Bettman for his lack of exposure. He is not putting an effort forth to promote the sport.... here in the states where it needs to get better.
All in all Jeff... don't come on here and question other people's loyalty. Especailly not Matt.... who runs this entire site... so you, and the rest of us fans... can voice are opinions. To me.... no matter what he says.... Matt is a TRUE fan! And the majority of what Matt says is the truth... so if you... or anyone else... can not handle the truth... don't read it!

As for Boston.... I actually like their chances. I hated Lewis as a coach back when he was first announced. He has not proven that he can succeed! So the coaching has drastically improved. Julien will provide the spark... and Ramsey will be an excellent assistant. I'm glad they kept Houda.
The goaltending is 10x better then it was last year. Yes... the price to get Manny was high.... but as the old saying goes... you have to give something to get something.
And all the players will have another year to gel. Not to mention the promising young kids the organization has.
My prediction.... the Bruins take the 7th seed.
Sorry for the rant!

Matt, I apologize for giving you a hard time. I shouldnt be dissing my fellow B's fans. I cant argue with the B's status as 4th, and as bosborn said, hockey itself is 4th here.

I had read the post, while I grudgingly agreed I thought "completely irrelevant" was an incorrect way of coining the B's current state.

But then saw some loser repied with "the bruins the laughin stock of every sports organization". It seemed to be followed up with a similiar flavor of complete disrespect and that set me off.

Jeff... I ignore the people who come on here and say that crap! You know why? Because they are most likely Leaf fans or Canadien fans trying to piss us off.
Don't let the ignorant shmucks who come on here to stir the pot aggravate you. They are not Bruins' fans... they are rooting for another team.
And I apologize to you for going off on you. I just took offense to someone telling me I had no right to question the team I bleed for. I do not like every choice they make.... but I will always back them.
A little story.... i'll try and make it quick. I went to a Bruins/Penguins game in Pittsburg many years back. This was nearing the end of Neely playing with the B's. Anyhow, I wore my Bruins' jersey with pride. Every time they scored I jumped up and down with my hands raised high! I don't remember the final score, but the Bruins won the game. But with about 30 seconds left to play, a Penguins' fan behind yells out,"You're not man enough to have the Penguins logo on your chest!" I turned, and with an evil grin said,"Want to bet??!!" I pulled off my jersey to reveal a black Penguins t-shirt underneath. It was one I bought in front of the old Gahden! It had the logo of the Penguins on the front, below it saying "SUCKS!" And I proudly turned around revealing the back... which said "Samuelsson Swallows!"
All in all... we have some great fans that come on to this site... and I would like to thank Matt for giving us a forum to express our opinions. But with everything... you will have some goofballs that are on the computer without their mommies and daddies knowing it. These are the same kids that either... are getting bullied at school... or did get bullied at school. Don't let them get to you.
Enjoy the Bruins! Enjoy the site! Let's bring on the season!!

Side note... still would like to see them bring in a veteran center to play third line so we can see Kessel play the wing with Savard and Murray!

Later all!!

3:26 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Thats hilarious. Good story. No need to apologize, I read my own posts and was able to crit myself for attacking B's fans.

I did hear a recent rumor of the B's pursuing a "speedy scoring winger". We'll see! Also, I heard the B's are one of 4 interested in Lindros. I dont think that is the vet center you had in mind...but he didnt play so bad until he got hurt last year.

10:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the only UFA winger still available that I would not mind seeing in black and gold is O'Neill. Scored 42 points and played 74 games. If they could get him for 1 mil a year or less, I'd like to see it.
As for centers, there are not that many left. Lindros, Stefan and Peca all missed a lot of games last year due to injuries, Allison didn't even play, and the only one who played almost a full year is better on the wing, but might be worth a gamble, is Bulis. Especially to bring him here so he can haunt the Habs!
Not sure.... I'd just like to see Julien give Kessel the chance to show what he can do. Put him with some veterans so he doesn't have as much stress on him if he were centering the 3rd line.

8:13 AM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

I'd like to see Kessel play wing as well. With that speed, give him a chance on the first line as you said with minimal pressure. I think that combo (savvy, muzz and phil) in time could be as productive as the 700 pd line.

Julien HAS to be a better coach. I dont think he could be as bad as Lewis if he tried. He has overachieved everywhere, and damn, Lewis was just retarded last year. It was so frustrating to see how he misplayed PJ, and playing Chara 65 minutes a game. Not to mention a million other things. I really think Julien is the biggest offseason improvement.
