Schaefer in, Axe out?

According to KPD, the arrival of Schaefer could mean the departure of Axe.

Latrappe's take: Honnestly, i don't see that happening since Axe and Schaefer, as PK killers, are a part of the plan to cut the GAA. Let's add that Axe have a very affordable contract and that he's pretty efficient in many situations...

Deal Axe? I sure as hell hope not. The guy can play the game. Period. Just think that he is on the national team for one of the greatest hockey nations in the world (Sweden)... He can sure as hell play for the Bruins. If you can't fit Axe into your system, your system doesn't fit.

actually if they could package axey and a goaltender or prospect for a true top 6 left winger id be thrilled. we need someone to play with savard and murray who can score. then we have bergeron sturm and bochenski. kessel shaeffer and kobasew and a 4th line that can beat the hell out of any team with mowers thornton and reich

Axy and Hannu for a guy like Gionta would be not bad.

Axy is the most dedicated player on the Bruins squad. We would be stupid to let him go.

theres no way the devils give us gionta for axey and hannu. if this was even remotely possible though we would be a top 5 team in the east behind Ottawa, NYR, Pitt, and philly

Latrappe here is one thing we agree on. Dead on, for the exact reasons you described.

What if the B's sent Murray, Thomas, and Wideman to the Sharks (the Sharks have been interested in Murray, and need a good back up tender and puck moving D). Then the sharks send Marleau to the Oilers (since the Sharks are interested in moving him before end of next season and Lowe would jump at the chance to sign another big name) and someone or something else. The Oilers then send Pitikanen (solid D man and they have to much D already) and Reasoner (good defensive center). The B's open up some cap space (somewhere they should try to off-load Chistov) and their lines can look like this
1st Strum, Savard, Kessel
2nd Schafer, Bergeron, Bochenski
3rd Axelsson, Reasoner, Kobasew
4th Thornton, Mowers, Reich
So 2 strong lines, a solid checking line, and a scary 4th line. Then for D they can have
Chara, Stuart
Pitikanen, Lashoff/Alberts
Ward, Ference
All solid D pairings.
and in goal
Fernandez
Toivonen
Not bad at all.
Who knows how realistic this may be, but then again one never knows...

and then we could totally get bobby orr and cam neely to come out of retirement, and maybe acquire Patrick Roy's memory from the Av's and we'd be killer!

Reasoner wasn't that great of a hockey player from what I remember when he was with the B's

trade axelstone hands for anything. he needs to go.

This is stupid. Axelsson is 10 times the player Schaefer is. I wouldn't mind making a move to bring in a bigger body up front, but Axe is not a trade option. In my opiion, Hannu can go because Timmy will be a good backup until Tuukka is NHL ready. Lots of people like Mark Mowers, Stan Chistov is young and relatively talented. There are people that we can afford to move, but PJ is one of the elite players in the world. Just because he isn't a scorer, knuckleheads don't see him as valuable.

And thats what any numbnut who calls himself a Bruins fan is who wants PJ gone; a knucklehead.

Its impossible you know hockey, its impossible you watch the Bruins. Its impossible you people who want PJ gone have ANY brain at all.

Who needs to go is the idiot "fans" who dont know a good player. Maybe actually watch games before you say anything. I know you havnt watched alot of B's hockey the last 10 years, because if you did you would cry at the prospect of losing PJ.

All you wannabes go watch the Red Sox or something and leave the Bruins for Bruins fans.

yeah lets trade pj! one of the only guys who can play at both ends of the ice! he can shut down the top forwards in the nhl but let trade him so our goals- against can sky rocket even higher!

With PJ out of the lineup, we suck much more than we already do. As long as he is healthy and cast in the role he is best at (defensive forward) he is a huge asset to this team at a reasonably (by todays standards) affordable rate.

WOW is this person being serious?

Elite player... not quite. But PJ is a guy who play well in all three zones. Nothing flashy about PJ's game but he's an asset. Normally, you trade players who doesn't fit with your philosophy. I failed to see how PJ is not " fitting " on this team.

YES, he IS an elite player. Take a look at how many Swedish players are in the NHL, and take a look who they chose to be their two-way shutdown guy when they won a gold medal at the olympics. Scorer? Nope. Elite role player? absolutely.

Whether this person is serious or not, he seems to understand the importance of PJ. When he says he elite, he doesn't mean 55 goals and 50 assists. He means a world class player who helps a team win EVERY night. Thats all. Nothing special there.

So when you ask if this guy is serious, my thought is that you have echoed a voice that is too common among supposed B's fans.

I guess there's just alot of people who dont watch or who just recently started watching hockey. Thats something were all going to have to deal with in the "new" NHL. Which is a whole other beef. We dont need new fans, we need the old ones back.

hollay, they betta not move PJ! he is a defensive specialist.if pc decides to trade PJ,then we can add another 30+ gaa! is that really a smart choice? even if he only scores 35pts, whats the diff with gaa vs Pj not being in,over him being in,and contributing on a nightly pace.whether it be shutting down opp pp, or giving morale and tips to younger Bruins.the value of Pj is a hard one, but i think with him im the line up the Bruins are a definate better team on D.especially with the new coach coming in. what do you think?

I completely agree.

Ditto. Why get rid of your best defensive forward when you already have trouble keeping the puck out of your own net? So what if Schaefer is similiar to Axe? Thats a good thing. It means better d on a team that needs to improve defensively. Now if the Bruins could just get another strong defensemen so Chara won't have to play 30 minutes a game again they could shake things up in the east pretty good.

There are plenty of defensive forwards in the league that see regular ice time that don't even come close to the 35 points a year that PJ gets. He's not out there to score goals, but every once in a while, he will. And the beauty of that is, when a player like him DOES score a goal, the whole deam gets fired up.

I just read on hockey leaks, that boston was looking to deal axelsson with possible trade partners of nashville, coyotes, and canuks.

package pj, one of the young d maybe alberts, and one of the goalies for a top six left winger. gives the bruins 3 lines of scoring

Wouldn't mind Martin Erat or David Legwand. Other than that, on those teams, I can't see a forward that would work, and we could afford.

4:35 PM

Those guys would be sweet to land but I think the Bruins need another defenseman who can log big minutes so Chara doesn't have to every game.
