David Krejci Resigned

The Boston Bruins have announced that David Krejci has been resigned to a three year contract. The cap hit will be $3.75 million annually. His salaries will be $3.5 million in 2009-10, $3.75 million in 2010-11, and $4 million in 2011-12.

Excellent contract for both the Bruins and the player. A three year contract at a relatively low cap hit for a point-per-game player enables the Bruins to now focus on resigning other key members of the organization. For Krejci, signing this contract enables him to prove his worth and cash in on a huge contract after three seasons. One interesting thing to note is once Krejci's three year contract expires, he will be 26 years old, meaning he will still be a restricted free agent.

its an awesome contract for the bruins but at the same time its fair for krejci. i bet he could have gotten some offer sheets. good things chiarelli is former partners with his agent.

explain to me how ryder makes 4 mil per and krejci is at 3.5!!! the price for ryder shouldve been 2 mil tops! and then kessel is an easy resigning. anyways, GREAT DEAL for the B's

7:10 PM
Anonymous James said...

im giddy right now. wow. ryder scored 26 goals last year. i dont mind his salary. krejci was a rfa and could have only received a 5% pay increase plus was having knee surgery so the bruins had the cards in their hands. kessels contract will be tough but krejcis contract helps set a value and gives the bruins cap space.

so should i take him in my pool next year?

Prediction:

I select Krejci, Sobotka scores 75 points

mook, im with you sobotka is gunna be huge this year. i duno bout 70 points but hell put up some numbers. hell statr the year on a top 3 line then drop down to the fourth once krejci and kessel come back from injury. no more axelsson!!!! yes.

i really really hope we trade away sturm and ward or ference for lecavalier. wouldnt having Vinny be awesome?

no. stop dreaming. salary too high anyways. the nhl isnt the same as playing xbox.

5:12 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Lecavalier is not for the Bruins. We have 3 centers who are IMO the best 3 way combo in the NHL. Savard is in his prime at 31, with Patrice and Krejci set to establish a foundation of depth at that position for years to come. We have Zach Hamill, St. Pierre Sobotka all looking to crack the lineup in the next couple of seasons. This is not Boston Bruins team rocket science.

Regardless of his skill which he does have, the salary is too high, and for 10 more years? That was an absolute moronic contract, and not something PC would ever pigeon hole the Bruins into.

Kessel and 25th overall pick to Tampa for 2nd overall pick and a 3rd round pick. Then either draft - depending on who New York takes, Victor Hedman, which would be crazy awesome, or John Tavares. If Tavares - trade to Maple Leafs for entire organization. (Brian Burke is crazy like that.)

7:18 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Yes, you can dream...that would be a historical 4 center combo! I think the Bruins are in good shape at center though Gibby. I would like to see some more physical play out of our wingers, and some minor tweaks on D.

If Wheeler can bring it physically, and Bitz steps up that would be a nice boost right there.

They need speed as well and I suspect they will sign Phil, especially if they move Sturm which could be easily done. He has only 1 year left and comes relatively cheap at 3.5 I think it is. Also, Recchi has expressed interest at resigning, so I think the roster could be very similiar to last seasons, minus PJ (dont go PJ!!), Mantador, Sturm, Yelle and maybe one or two more on D.

We'll see what happens.

The rumor I heard tonight was Kessel to Colorado for the 3rd overall pick...I'd hope that there would be more than just the 3rd pick...either way I would do it.

jefe no pj. its time for him to finally say goodbye. thanks but your time has come pj

the third pick is way less valuable than the top 2 this year. plus, we should be looking to add grit. besides lucic, none of our forwards throw their bodies around effectively

NO MORE PJ!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE RETIRE

I hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for my long layoff.... been dealing with a lot of family stuff.

As for the 3rd pick... It is not as bad as some think. The word is, there are three players that could all go first overall. Tavares, Hedman and now Duchene who they are saying is the most complete player in the draft.

If Colorado wants Kessel, it will have to be more then just the 3rd pick though. Maybe throw in Chris Stewart who is a big RW (6'2", 228 lbs) or add a roster player of their own.

I'd rather see Boston trade Sturm. Even though I like him, we didn't have him last year, so it isn't like we would miss him. that way we could sign Kessel, Hunwick and Bitz. With Fernandez, Hnidy, Montador, Axellson, and Yelle coming off the books, I hope PC signs those RFAs and Recchi, St. Pierre and Boychuk.

I like the Bruins team as we see it. We have some great young talent ready to make a splash(Sobotka, Bitz, St. Pierre, etc) and a few more just a cpl years out (Hamill, Colbourne, Boychuk, etc). I would not make any major changes.

Lucic-Savard-Kessel
Recchi-Bergeron-Kobasew
Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder
Bitz-Sobotka-Thornton

Chara-Ward
Hunwick-Wideman
Stuart-Ference

Thomas
Rask

I'd be happy with barely changing a thing. Unless PC can pick up an impact player for dirt cheap. But that lineup looks really good to me!

11:49 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

PC is now officially god.

id say no to recchi unless we can be guarunteed to sign back kessel, hunwick, and boychuk, which i dont think is possible. id love sturm back but i say trade him for a pick to free up cap space. samegoes for ward. that should allow us to sign back yelle. my 09/10 b's lineup:

lucic-savard-kessel
wheeler-krejci-ryder
bitz-bergeron-kobasew
thornton-yelle-sobotka

(maybe even switch bitz and wheeler)

chara-hunwick
wideman-ference
stuart-boychuk

thomas
rask

i hate to trade sturm as him and bergeron have unbelievable chemistry, but id rather trade sturm than bergeron.

overall thats a great team. we shouldve had boychuk up last year.

and while krejci and kessel are out have hamill and maybe marchand up.

We need more toughness and grit up front. I think Chris Neil would be awesome ! Tough but still has some offensive talent. Likely to expensive....??? Maybe P.C. can work that old Sens connection ??

Anonymous Anonymous said...

chris neil is a pussy. i'd take daniel carcillo or patrick kaleta.

go. trade thornton.

2:47 PM
Anonymous James said...

i wouldnt mind either kaleta or carcillo. thornton can see regular minutes until everyone is healthy. once healthy he can be the scratch. the bruins need size up front so i would rather not see axelsson, yelle or recchi back. if any id take recchi because he plays physical. hopefully lucic spends everyday with wheeler showing him how to use his size and to stop being a poon.

sobotka=helm. too bad julien loves veterans and wont play younger players. take a page from babcocks book.

10:58 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

that last statement about julien has no merit.

see: peter shaeffer

as much as you guys hate him, i think axelsson is very useful and plays a good game. i'd keep him...and i'd certainly play him before anyone in providence got a shot.

for the record, a ham sandwich could coach the wings to a cup. babcock is not a good coach. anyone watch last game? completely out-coached. and to your point, look at all the rookies and youngsters playing on detroit! wow! they have what...1 or 2? look at him giving all the youngsters chances too! lidstrom gets injured, and he dresses that up-and-coming youngster chris chelios.

8:31 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

ericsson - rookie, played everygame except one - apendix
helm - rookie, everygame
abdelkader - rookie, played everygame since round 2
leino - rookie

mccarty - veteran, scratched
chelios - veteran, scratched 6 games total.
draper - veteran, scratched for game 3

babcock is a great coach when it comes to setting lines. he doesnt need to do much else cuz his team is always nasty. i wouldnt mind axelsson back either but only if he is on the fourth line for the whole season and pk only. if he plays on any offensive line then no thanks.

9:23 AM
Anonymous psands said...

great signing, sign kessel for something similar and we can easily find a way to keep them both.

but i think we will have to trade sturm ward and i think trading ference would be a good thing, just because he has his injury problems, and we have replacements in providence waiting.

my only concern about the team next year is toughness up front, mostly on the top 3 lines, a guy like ryan malone would be perfect, but his salary is to big and we would probably have to give up something huge to get him.

lucic-savard-kessel
wheeler-krejci-ryder
sobotka-bergeron-kobasew
thornton-yelle-bitz
reich

chara-stuart

sobotka is tough, even though he's small, i dont understand how he racks up so many penalty minutes. and hopefully after wheelers benching in the playoffs he has figured out that he needs to play tougher, and grittier. he is big enough to dominate people, he needs to learn how to hit more and even drop the gloves a few times.

5:08 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

why dont we trade thomas for one of the top 2 picks...rask is better anyways

4:05 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

mook, are you serious babcock not a good coach??? wow. i kno detroit is stacked but hes one of the top coaches in the league, yes i would take him over julien.

8:52 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

... and for julien sticking with his veterans too long. yes he does. and he did with schaeffer. he didnt finally drop him to the fourth line until like game 60 in the regular season.

Mook, I usually agree with you on most stuff but I too would take babcock as a coach anyday. remember what dave lewis did for detroit? 2 first place teams 2 1st round loses.

meh, just my opinion. happy with julien though...sure came a long way since lewis that's for sure!

imagine savard with heatley...

12:04 AM

please please please please

dump kessel too...

8:49 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

no thanks on heatley. when kessel signs heatley will still be making more then kessel and krejci combined. ever wonder why ottawa sucks? because they have high salary players and cant afford to fit any other decent players in under the cap.

10:15 AM
Anonymous psands said...

yea come on mook, heatley?, your better than that. we would have to dump half the team to fit him in.

instead i like your idea of trying to find a way to bring in chris stewart, the young milan lucic like power forward who would look great playing with bergeron and kobasew. he is big and gritty and goes to the net, what pc said he is looking for. the problem is it would take probably our first round pick and something else to get him.

yeah. dump sturm and we're halfway there. i would trade kessel and sturm for heatley...or even bergeron and sturm.

50 goals!!!!

10:12 PM

heatley-savard-kessel
ryder-krejci-lucic
kobasew-sobotka-wheeler
axelsson-yelle-thornton

bergeron and sturm are traded. axelsson and yelle are resigned (here we go...) and the defense is almost the same.

c'mon...and all this would fit under the cap. Sturm ($3.5million) - Bergeron ($4.75 million) are gone which frees-up space for Heatley, which still leaves us space to sign Kessel and a few scraggerls (Yelle, Axe, etc).

The powerplay would look like this:

PP1
Heatley-Savard-Ryder
Chara-Wideman

PP2
Kessel-Krejci-Lucic
Stuart-Ference/Hunwick

C'mon!!!!!!

8:58 AM
Anonymous James said...

If sturm or bergeron are moved I would go for another defenseman. Heatley is nasty but the Bruins really need another skilled d man. As for Axelsson and Yelle back, thanks but no thanks. I'd prefer Recchi over both of them and would give Sobotka regular minutes

9:43 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem in the playoffs was not either axe or yelle...it was scoring! heatley=50 goals more.

let's just fix what is wrong. our pk is solid. recchi? no.

10:31 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here's what will happen anyways:

Dany Heatley, Alexander Auld, 9th pick for Wojtek Wolski, Billy Sauer, 3rd pick

If that is the asking price, we can beat it with Bergeron and Sturm (even better if it is Kobasew and Sturm, but they're not that dumb).

mook, im just not that big a fan of heatley for what we would have to give up, and i think we have plenty of scoring. i just dont want to break up a good portion of the team, even trade bergeron for a murderer(yea i said it) like heatley. if you want 50 goals wait on kessel, i feel like he could do it.

i still like your first idea of trying to get chris stewart out of colorado. a big skilled forward to play with bergy and kobasew. as far as another skilled d-man i think boychuk can cover that, he was unreal in the ahl, if he can do half of what he did in the nhl next year we would be fine.
