Finally some hockey

After waiting around for what seems like weeks, we finally get to see the Bruins play in the second round of the playoffs. Here are the projected lineups for both teams:

Axelsson-Savard-Kessel
Lucic-Krejci-Ryder
Recchi-Bergeron-Kobasew
Wheeler-Yelle-Thornton

Chara-Ward
Ference-Wideman
Stuart-Mondator

Andrew Ference is probable to play. Claude Julien stated in practice today that Ference will only skate if he is 100% healthy. He has practiced regularly since the Canadiens series ended, so expect him in. Byron Bitz and Shane Hnidy are the expected scratches. Here's how the Bruins lined up on the powerplay during practices throughout the week layoff:

Ryder-Savard-Recchi-Wideman-Chara
Kessel-Krejci-Kobasew-Ference-Bergeron

Here are the lines Carolina used during the first round of the playoffs against New Jersey:

Whitney-Staal-Larose
Ruutu-Cullen-Cole
Samsonov-Brind'Amour-Eaves
Bayda-Jokinen-Walker

Gleason-Corvo
Pitkanen-Babchuk
Seidenberg-Wallin

The powerplay units the Canes used at practice today are listed below. Matt Cullen may see time at a point position. Jokinen also rotated in on the second unit.

Whitney-Staal-Ruutu-Babchuk-Corvo
Samsonov-Brind'Amour-Cole-Pitkanen-Seidenberg

since we are playing against a real goalie in this series, anybody else think we should move wheeler up to the first line? i know axe is very valuable up there at shutting the other top forwards down, but i just feel that goals will be harder to come bye in this series, and we are going to need wheeler, who can actually put the puck in the net, playing on the first line.

no big deal tho, im sure claude will switch it if that first line is not working out.

psands, yes i hate seeing axelsson on the first line. not only does it make the line incredibly soft, he hurts the offensive production of the line. watching him standing at the blue line with our d drives me mad especially when kessel and savard and battling their asses off down low.

are you guys serious? this story again?

bottom line: with axe on the top line we win. when he wasn't, we lost.

do you think julien is an idiot?

and for the record, axe does not "make a line incredibly soft" if that line already has kessel on it (and to a lesser extent, savard). not for anything, but kessel hasn't thrown a hit since junior...and he doesn't finish checks. what games are you watching?

honestly, sometimes i think pekese or someone posts crap under a fake name just to get us going...noone is this stupid.

mook, you must have forgotten that stretch of games (12-16 games) when the bruins were brutal because axelsson skated with savard and kessel. kessel went over 10 games straight without a point,.

Ok - I have to side with Mook on this one. People have been complaining for weeks that Axelson this and that - boo hoo! quit your whining and man up: your team is playing winning hockey!

since March 1st the Bruins are 15-7-1, can we PLEASE stop whining about the moves Julien's making?

Axe bashers - I do not have the numbers but I would bet my left nut they have a better winning percentage with him in the line up versus him not. Unless I was on crack against the habnots axe threw more checks than Sav or Kes. or at least connected on more hits - nine time out of ten Sav and Kes will hit the boards and not the player. I personally do not care what line anyone is on as long as they win. Get off the rag - the team is playing great - start bitching after we are eliminated.

no one is saying he doesnt hit more then kessel or savard. my point was that having lucic or even wheeler gives them size and a physical presence in front of the net. when hes on their line the defense can focus on kes and sav because they all know axe is sittin out at the blueline.

is it 730 yet

If it is a close game you need him up front - once you get the lead then put Wheeler or Lucic back up - Julian is doing the correct things - Every game is a little differant - you need to place your players depending on the situation - up to now they have been doing the right thing. Cme on 7:30 - let the slaughter begin

i never said anything bad about axe, my only point was that since we are playing against a very strong goalie, do you guys think we should have wheeler playing more on the top line, i agree that axe is very useful on the first line, but i also think we need to get wheeler involved more.

i actually would not mind seeing wheeler sit, and have bitz play on the fourth line. yea i know wheeler is a much better player, but he is not a fourth line player, and you all have to admit that thornton yelle and bitz work very well together, they make it a more affective line.

you idiots bashed me because i wanted axelsson off the first line. how it did work out tonight once he was replaced with lucic and wheeler back with krejci? thats what i thought

im with you james, nobody here will admit it tho, but they know in the end we were right.

and to take it one step further, throughout the year whenever axe played on the line with yelle and thornton, the line looked just awful, for whatever reason axe just looks bad with that line. but bitz-yelle-thornton have been one of the best fourth lines in the league in my opinion. im not saying, im just saying

Hey awesome. The Bruins win - convincingly, and somehow some of you still find reasons to act like idiots to prove a useless point. Claude Julien is a good coach, and has proved it all year. Actually he should be the coach of the year. I don't care where and when he plays anyone as long as it's helping them win games, and he's done that for 2 years.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it really doesn't matter if you're right about Axelsson or not. You don't coach the team and Julien doesn't read this looking for advice.

Nice win. Here's to keeping on rolling, Bruins.

let's bench ryder. he scores too many goals.

a bit of an over reaction there huh da wreck? i mean calling us idiots? the point of this blog is to discuss the bruins and our opinions, no shit claude julien does not read this blog. but the point is to talk about the bruins. if you dont like it then why are you even coming here.

but you are right, i should have said something about the bruins impressive win tonight.

In all fairness, I didn't call anyone an idiot: someone earlier did. I thought that some were "acting like idiots", trying to somehow prove a useless point. The Bruins played great. They've played so amazing all season long, I find it irritating that somehow, certain people find things to complain about. (See: 4 million posts about Axelsson, and line combinations) Who cares. I havent seen a Bruins team dominate on the ice, the standings, media or awards in so long, I'm enjoying the ride.

There is definitely unfinished business, and that's the 11 wins to go. We all should be getting behind our team and supporting them (and yeah, that means the lines they roll with) until it's over and there is champagne spilled over the Garden ice.

Then again it's just a blog, and that's my opinion.

I'm with Mook. We have to bench Ryder! Let's save his goals for the next round and the finals. This series is a joke, let's keep our best players rested for the rest of the playoffs. Put Axe up in his spot with Krejci.

im getting use to this 4 goal a game minimum.

pile it onnnnnnnn

i like how julien made an adjustment and moved axe to the 4th line midway into the 1st. i think his logic is as follows: when marc savard and kessel are out there, they don't need defensive backup against this team because they are not fast. our defense can handle them.

so i believe it may be a "the best defense is a wicked offense" approach.

good for me! my pool is ALL bruins!

point is, julien is not dumb...he knows what he is doing and until they start losing games, i trust him.

With any luck, Alex Ovechkin ends up tearing his acl and mcl and can't play after game one. I can't stand the NHL's media's constant hard on for him anymore. Eklund called it the sexiest series in 25 years.

Come on now, Get Injured Ovie. I'm sick of you and all of your antics. You're a great hockey player, but you're also a joke.

sweet mouth purple lips cindy needs to go down too please. then again now that i think about it i hope he doesnt get injured. cause then malkin will take control of the team and win every game just like the last two years around the allstar break so they sneak into the playoffs.
