Second Round Opponent

With both the Washington-New York and Carolina-New Jersey series extending to seven games, it leaves the Bruins three possible second round opponents. Pittsburgh, Carolina, and New York are the teams that the Bruins could see depending upon what happens Tuesday night (both game sevens Tuesday 7 PM).

The Bruins play Pittsburgh if:

New Jersey and Washington win

The Bruins play Carolina if:

Washington and Carolina win

The Bruins play New York if:

New York wins (winner of NJ-Carolina would have no affect)

The Rangers have played two terrible games and have let Washington back into the series. The Bruins match up best against New York, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to Washington leaving the Bruins either Carolina or Pittsburgh. The Penguins would be the tougher of the two opponents especially with the way Marc-Andre Fluery played in round one.

The Bruins scoring depth would be the answer to either Lundquist, Ward or Fleury.

I want the Rangers,...it's a year to remember, so why not?

They might even sweep that team as well, but as someone mentioned,...they had their chance against the Caps and blew it. Washington will win.

No matter, the B's match well against everyone.

Depth, goaltending, physical play, passion and team D should take the Bruins to the finals. I suspect the Wings or Nucks will be there waiting.

Waiting to lose!!!!!

Go Bruins.

I dunno - 3 bad games in a row by Lundquist? I doubt it. This game 7 will be a close one. Although it's not saying much, I think that guys like Drury and Nasland who have some playoff experience, and have had success in the league could make the difference.

The Capitals rely too much on Ovechkin - after him the role players there, despite glitz and glamor, are young and inexperienced. I think the Rangers take this series on a 4-2 win (4th goal is ENG if you're wondering ;)

That being said, I'm praying that Carolina beats New Jersey. Not because they look good now, but if they somehow catch fire, that's a team who has some good secondary scoring, good defense, and well... Brodeur is still one of the best.

I love playoff hockey

what a surprise! i knew thomas would be nominated for the vezina, but i would have never guessed these other 2: (maybe mason)

thomas
mason
backstrom

i think this should be an easy decision...

i'm surprised they didn't include luongo, kiprusoff or fleury...the league has such a hard-on for those guys.

Neither of those two (Mason or Backstrom) should be a surprise. Both of them were their respective teams best players, and Backstrom was || this close to pushing the Wild into the playoffs same as Mason. If you look at their #'s, all three are consistently near the top of the league in all the major catagories.

That being said, you can toss a coin between Backstrom and Mason based on stats, but Thomas' are visibly better. Not to mention it's an award given by the GM's, so I have to believe Thomas will win it based both on success this year, and the fact that everyone loves him.
