Final Tuneup

Today is the last practice before the playoffs begin. Here is how they lined up today

Axelsson-Savard-Kessel
Recchi-Bergeron-Kobasew
Lucic-Krejci-Ryder
Thornton-Yelle-Bitz/Wheeler

Blake Wheeler skated on the fourth line during practice. Could this be an indicator that Wheeler gets the Phil Kessel treatment from last playoffs? I certainly hope not.

The powerplays:
Ryder-Savard-Recchi-Wideman-Hunwick
Kessel-Krejci-Kobasew-Bergeron-Chara

Andrew Ference still has yet to skate since suffering an undisclosed injury. He is doubtful for tomorrow's game. "He continues to be day-to-day guys," said B's head coach Claude Julien, Tuesday. "That’s his situation and as long as you don’t see him on the ice, that means he’s not ready to come back.

"I think when you see him on the ice for the first time it’ll be a good sign."

WTF, axelsson on the first line hasnt worked for 3 years now!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is a good option - Savards line has been crap defensively the last few weeks - Savard has had more giveways the past 10 games then the entire season. The habs will likely have Kovalev play against Savards line - He is the only player they have which can do damage if he gets on a roll. PJ will play tough against him and will allow the other three lines lots of scoring chances. Try this out for a game and once Kovalev gets pounded on his butt a few times he will pull his famous disappearing act again. I think this will open things for Bergeron - as I stated before he will be the top scorer for us in the playoffs. I hope they end this series early - I figure I will have all my fingernails chewed off by the end of the second period in the first game.

thats bull. axelsson sucks on the first line. always has always will. the canadiens are going to be physical so the bruins have their top line the smallest out of all their lines really makes sense. who on that line plays physical? no one!

It's a long road and there will be lots of line changes. I'm not a huge fan of Axelsson on the 1st, but I agree he may stop Kovalev...the only threat. You can always insert Wheeler, Lucic, Kobasew if goals are needed. The B's are in a good spot to have the options they do. But I did take Wheeler in my draft so put him out there Julien !!!

whoever that anonymous poster is made the best point I've seen on here regarding Axe. He's not going to score a lot (or any) goals, but he is one of the best defensive forwards on this team, if not THE best. After that first line, there isn't much depth on the MTL roster. And Bergy is a great defensive C who is getting bumped up to 2nd line because he's been GREAT against the Canadiens this season.

Sorry to say, but sitting Wheeler doesn't hurt this club, and if last season was any indication, it may help in the long run. Bitz on the 4th line could have a HUGE impact if he plays physical - the man is beastly.

Lets give Julien his due, you all bitch and moan about PJ on the first line, but they won 53 games this season due to excellent coaching and chemistry. Lets relax and let this play out geez.

it's hard to say that it is a problem that we have so many good forwards, but in this case it might be. i dont want pj on the first line, but then again he is a great defensive player, who is very valuable to this team, and he needs to be in the lineup.

i dont really want to see him on the fourth line, claude uses the fourth line to play a high tempo physical style, and pj would not bring that on the fourth line, bitz can. if bitz decides to play physical, he is a big prescence out there, and with the habs dressing laraque, he might have to be the guy, along with thornton, to answer laraques physical play.

but wheeler is a big offensive presence out there, and you hate to see him have to sit. i say try it for the first game, then see how it goes, its a tough decision to make, either way we lose something valuable from our lineup.

Thanks McPuck- finally someone who understands hockey - no doubt no one on savards line including Pj will hit Kov but thats what Chara gets paid to do - Tie up Kov on the first line with PJ and once the bruins have a lead in the game you can insert wheeler or Lucic moving PJ down - this is unless we start taking stupid penalties - that would screw up the four line system by inserting Pj - Bergy - Yelle - breaking up the four line rotation - they better play smart but pound them into the ice - the habs will turtle up like usual - Dont forget they will get all the calls from the ref's expecially the invisible call with 5 minutes left in the game like the always do.

If you go back and look at the last time PJ played against the Habs (he was a scratch two weeks ago) he lead the B's in hits (5) so don't think he won't play physical. He may no put a guy through the glass, or even on his butt, but he'll run a guy.

The thing about PJ is he'll do whatever the coach asks of him, which is why he's traditionally been kind of a teachers pet.

and who cares about Laraque, he's a liability every time he steps on the ice because he can't play defense and he's less than so-so on offense. If the bruins ignore him, he's basically a scratch on the bench.

axelsson on the top line landed the bruins in 1st in the east...so u can't say it doesn't work.

given the rest of the team, he's not a bad option. trust julien, he knows what he's doing.

i've made the 1st line defensive liability point a few weeks back and got attacked on this site...

Un believable - a hand full of posts where everyone can agree on something - I cant wait for this series to start - My stomach is already turning - I can imagine how this is affecting the players. I hope the habs get smoked in 4 games so I can relax - playing against them again ties my gut in knots.

According to Mike Zeisberger of The Toronto Sun, George Laraque decided to let words start a battle earlier this week instead of waiting until the drop of the puck tonight.

Zeisberger, no doubt working off a translation of an interview on CKAC, a French radio station in Quebec, reported that Laraque said of Shawn Thornton, "When we dropped the gloves in Montreal, I fell...I'm out of his league. He's way too small for me."

According to Zeisberger, Laraque added: "Actually, some of his teammates told me he was shaking in his boots before the game. He really didn't want to face me. If he wants to dance in Boston it will be my pleasure to go with him. I'll make sure the crowd quiets down really fast."

Lastly, this nugget: "Of course I'd like to also fight with Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara but I have to be careful...In the playoffs they'll eject you immediately."

According to Zeisberger, Laraque also had some choice words for his own team AND the Bruins when he said, ""I have never seen a team get roughed-up as badly as the Bruins roughed us up last week...I'm sure that if they play that kind of hockey during the playoffs, guys will get suspended. I understand why they played that way. They didn't want to face us in the first round. They wanted to face the Panthers."

Brilliant predictions you fartknockers!!!!

What did you like better you silly habs fans?

1. The fact we have beaten you 9 out of the last 11 meetings?

2. Or do you like Lucic smashing your players faces into the glass and removing them from the lineup?

3. Or do you like the fact that we won in your building, on Patrick Roy night?

Which one?

there should be suspensions to those two dirty habs players (kostopolous for the attempted elbow on hunwick, and komisarek for the attemted blinding on hunwick moments later).

that's not hockey...and if carcillo got suspended these guys should be too.

on the bright side; if they're not suspended, stupid habs fans can't use it as an excuse for why they got swept first round. let's hope this fuels the b's like how mclaren's hit on zednik fueled the habs...

(speaking of mclaren...he could be in the playoffs playing for philly right now if he wasn't such a fat whale)

bruins were getting ht ejitters out last game, saturday's game should be a complete destruction of the habs. i'm saying the b's win by 5 or more...not kidding. jesus price can kiss my arse...go smoke another fag.

PJ was amazing on the 1st line last night by stopping kovalev, backchecking and allowing kess and savard to play their free-flowing creative offense. I was depressed to see him on the top line but I was very happy to have had him there once the final buzzer sounded (and the canadiens cheap-shotted). Oh, and I definitely don't buy Patrice being our top scorer of the playoffs but he played an amazing defensive game last night, he blocked a sure goal in the 1st period.

that pussy maxim lapperriere should be suspended for that bull shit he tried to pull at the end of the game. what the fuck was that? going after kessel? its not like kessel is a pest or even talks trash, that just shows how loaded the canadiens are with pussy's.

they can talk shit about how we roughed them up all year, and especially in the last regular season game, but we never went after tanguay, koivu or kovalev. we went after guys who could fight, and would defend themselves.

the good news is we did not play anywhere near are best game and we still won, i agree with mook, we got the jitters out that first game, now we should be relaxed and we can rack up the goals.

we will go up 3 games to none, and then the fourth game we should dress bitz and hnidy and break some fucken faces, and win the game in dramatic fashion like the last regular season game.

from the herald:

"While much of the post-game attention was focused on Maxim Lapierre’s late hit on Phil Kessel after the Bruins’ empty-netter with 13.4 seconds left, B’s GM Peter Chiarelli has placed a call into the league to complain about what he felt was an eye-rake from Montreal defenseman Mike Komisarek on Matt Hunwick at the end of the game that left the Bruins’ rookie defenseman with a cut above his eye.
“I’m going to leave it up to the league, but it looks like he eye-gouged him from what I saw frmo Matt’s eye last night,” said Chiarelli.
The GM believes the Montreal defenseman was clutching Hunwick with his right, gloved hand while he gouged him with his left, bare hand. Hunwick received a few sutures over the right eye. After being separated, Komisarek was seen skating away with the right glove still on.
The league has been trying to put a lid on “message sending” at the end of games, so we’ll if a suspension is forthcoming.
As for the Lapierre hit, Chiarelli was more willing to chalk it up to natural frustration in the heat of the moment."

Not bad Bruins, not bad. But not good enough to beat us in the series. Last night's game was just a test. It would have been nice to win - but now we have you gauged. We now KNOW that we can compete and beat you. I still say Habs in 6. Saturday - Habs 4, Bruins 1.

you guys put SHAME into the nhl. they live for trash talk and cheap shots. wether its mouth running, eye poking, canadian gang member affiliation, you habs really know how to put class in your game. i prayed for a boston/douchebags 1st round match up. just to watch all the wannabe eurotrash crying like the bitches that they are is a championship in my book, then we can go on to play REAL hockey teams.
