Chiarelli's contract extended

The Boston Bruins have announced that GM Peter Chiarelli has signed a contract extension. Chiarelli was in the final season of a four year contract. More details to follow on the length of the contract after the Jacobs address the media tomorrow.

UPDATE: Chiarelli's contract is a four year extension, keeping the GM in Boston through the 2013-2014 season.

anyone ever wonder if neely wants to be gm one day?? hes just breaking in but what happens in a few years when neely wants to be gm and pc is still under contract?

I really think they work well together and both will remain for a long time. I believe Neely has a lot of input and is fine having his say but not the G.M. title.

keep in mind being gm is more than just "knowing hockey". you have to be versed on the business side of things too, and understand contracts, etc.

just take a look at garth snow...that was a bad experiment.

I dont think neely would want the GM position - he is to passionate about the game being a player - there is no doubt in my mind he would go down to the bench and punch out players when they play like crap

Ok seriously, what is it going to take to get Heatley in Boston?

Would you guys trade Savard for Heatley?

I gotta tell ya, when I first thought of it I thought i was nuts, but the more i mull it over, it makes sense.

Savard is in his final year, and he will command a huge salary increase. We are deep in the Centre position, and I feel Krejci can step-up to be the 1a (he is certainly paid to be that).

Heatley has a number of years left of 50 goal seasons. Heatley, Krejci and Ryder? Holy shit!

Just saying...making conversation.

By the way, if someone wants to ask about vacationing in Vancouver, let them. It's the off-season for fuck sake! what else are we supposed to talk about?!?!

I think Heatley is very talented - I just cant get over the fact of what he did. If it was you or me we would be sitting in the can now. I think he should be a little more humble when it comes to the teams and the fans. He should be a little more thankful for being able to play at all, now demanding a trade. He reminds me of Lindros - The team is bigger than any player in my eyes - I think he would be a cancer in the locker room. Todays bruins seem to be the tighest group of guys I have seen since the 1970 - 1973 teams. Someone like Heatley will surely go out of his way to bring the Ottawa crap attitude to this team.

its not that im not a fan of heatley, its more that im not a fan of his salary, or the players we would have to dump to fit him in here. mook, i would never trade savard and kessel for heatley, especially since it is to a division opponent.

we just need to sign kessel, and trade ward, sturm, and ference. i know they are big parts of the team, but they can all be replaced in the system.

does anybody else like the idea of maybe david clarkson playing on a line with bergeron and kobasew? just throwing it out there, the guy had 17 g's and 15 assists last year and would add size and toughness up front.

clarkson is still on nj and under contract for one more year. why would they let him go?? heatley is never coming here. his salary is way too high and it runs through 2014. thats just plain stupidity.

i would definitely go for heatley.

Dany Heatley is getting $7.5 million. Phil Kessel is asking $5 million and PJ's hit was $1.8 million. Done. Send Schaeffer back.

Anyone who thinks Kessel is a better goal scorer than Heatley is fucked. Heatley back with Savard and Chara? Yes please.

Don't make judgement calls about a mistake he made in the past anyways, anon. You're the only one still talking about that and it was an accident. Not drunk or drugged, just being 21.

I read on another blog about bruins rumours involving kessel to the avalanche for hejduk and a pick, then dealing part of that to the sens for heatley.

hey, there's been plenty of trades within this division, so you can't say it wont happen...what does ottawa care anyways? they're not touching the bruins for many years still.

I'm against going for Heatley not because its Ottawa and their in our division but because his cap hit is 7.5 mil. His contract runs through 2014 which scares me more.

well you see anonymous, there are these things in the nhl called trades. what usually happens during one of these trades is one team, lets just say the bruins, would send one or two players to another team, lets just say the other team is new jersey, and they send one of their players back to us.

since the cap is tight the bruins need to drop some salary (i really hope your still following me here) so usually when teams need to do that they make one of those trade things i explained to you.

the bruins have some very good players that they don't need or cant fit into their cap, like sturm, ward or ference. they can trade those players, and probably get somebody back like maybe clarkson.

oh and the maple leafs are trying to make a similar trade with the devils for clarkson, and are offering players not as good.

Sorry - I usually agree with what you say but this time I cant agree with you Mook -
"Heatley was also charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving too fast for condition, failure to maintain a lane and speeding in connection with the Sept. 29, 2003, car crash that killed teammate and friend Dan Snyder".
Being 21 is not excuse for this - you or I in the same situation would end up with time in the slammer - not three months probation. Even though it does not say it, i am sure there was some booze involved.
Even though this is not really the issue - bottom line is I would not want heatley on the bruins - he has no class and will never achieve the level of respect of a Neely - Orr - Bourque -

i don't want to be friends with him, i just want him to score 50 goals for my favourite team.

i'm sure he feels awful about it.

kessel for heatley. go.

tell me why the bruins need cap space? aren't we pretty good right now...even if we sign kessel for 5mil? no clarkson. no helm. we have enough grinders and second-rate players. we need a bonafide scorer. time to make a statement and keeping the exact same team as last year (plus some 3rd or 4th liners) is not good enough.

7.5mil is not that bad...how much does chara get? he wont be worth that once his contract comes-up again (which is soon, i believe). it's not paid to defensemen anymore...sorry. so if we have heatley through 2014 i think that's pretty sweet. PLUS he is VERY marketable and tradeable. if we wanted to dump the salary, any team would be happy.

mook the heatley trade would be dumb, your the only one who wants him. we dont have much cap space, there are so many things wrong with your last post i dont even want to get into it.

your smarter than this

12 years and $63million EACH for the sedin sisters? If they get that amount, how much will we have to pay for Savard next year?!?!?

They better not get even close to that. Even better, split them up...one on Edmonton, one on Calgary.

daniel is a much better and valuable player then henrik. id take daniel anyday. not a huge henrick fan.

haha the sedin twins are separated by all of 2 points in nearly 650 NHL games. one's a goal scorer, the other is the distributor. they have the exact same value, and have to play together because most of their game comes from chemistry
