Bruins Trade Deadline Deals

2003

-Acquired Brad Boyes and Andy Delmore from the San Jose Sharks for Jeff Jillson.
-Acquired Sergei Gonchar from the Washington Capitals for Shaonne Morrisonn, 1st round pick (Jeff Schultz), and a 2nd round pick (Michail Yunkov).
-Acquired Michael Nylander from the Washington Capitals for a 2nd round pick (Francois Bouchard), and a 4th round pick (Patrick McNeill).

2005

-Traded Sergei Samsonov to the Edmonton Oilers for Yan Stastny, Marty Reasoner, and a 2nd round pick (Milan Lucic).

2006

-Traded Paul Mara to the New York Rangers for Aaron Ward
-Traded Brad Boyes to the St. Louis Blue for Dennis Wideman

2007

NO MOVES

As you can see, the Bruins have not made a buyers move since 2003.  The Samsonov deal was a sellers move and the two deals in '06 were somewhat lateral.  2007 was disappointing as some of the prices were low, and a body could have helped us against Montreal, but we were only fighting for 8th so it did not make sense to deal any assets that would help us in the future.

Another thing to note is how the draft picks did not really pan out for any of the teams aside from maybe Jeff Schultz, who is in Minnesota now.  Lucic was our pick, but none of the picks we dealt have come to bite us in the ass.  Obviously with this deadline, no one wants to see Kessel, Krejci, Bergeron, Wheeler or Rask go for obvious reasons, which is why guys like Jordan Leopold, Eric Cole, Derek Morris and Keith Tkachuk make the most sense for the club rather than Chris Pronger or Tomas Kaberele.

id grab cole for a 3rd round pick, which will probably happen and id trade colborne, stuart and a fourth round pick to colorado for leopold and laperierre.

this would add some grit and a little defensive experience that we may need come playoff time. i love what bitz has done, but having laperierre with yelle and thornton and bitz as a reserve makes us slightly better.

going into the playoffs, id have:

looch savy kessel
wheller krejci ryder
cole bergy kobes
laperrire yelle thornton

Reserves: Bitz, then axellson. even though Julien would never buy it.

Chara Ward
wideman leopold
Ference Hunwick/Hnidy

Thomas
Fernandez.
lets do it, cup 09'

You guys shoud be worried about Thomas the way he give soft goal or misread a play at the worst moment. Our conference is full of very good keeper and there's no way Thomas will beat a guy like Brodeur. The Bruins might win a round but not much more...

i think thats a bit to much for leopold and laperriere, dont you think? i dont think those guys would be bad fits at all, but we dont need to give up stuart and colborne, two former first round picks. i also like how you want to add cole, but a third rounder might not be enough. i do like the guys you want to add though, we wont have to give up too much, and they can fit in well. only thing is the cap.

as for e-klown, im pretty sure that one fluke goal is not going to make thomas a liability, he has been one of the best goalies in the league, maybe the best, this year. i think thomas is the last of our concerns going into the playoffs.

i agree, maybe not moving colborne, but with a surplus presently with hunwick not playing, bringing in leopold and bench hnidy and hunwick doesnt make much sense, so id give up stuart with a pick for leopold and laperierre. the bruins can also use sobokta/nokelainen as trade bait. id keep sobotka and hunwick if possible, but if the trade was right id give up sobot's and maybe even hunwick. also E-klown ur name is perfect, timmy may not be marty brodeur, nobody is, but hes been the most consistent goaltender all year. shitty goal- yes. shitty goalie- absolutely not. if the bruins only win one round in the playoffs it will not be tim thomas holding them back. the playoffs ride on a hot goalie no matter who you are, and how chara steps up. from the offense, i think our top 6 will be good, and i think the key is having enough grit and intangibles on lines 3 and 4 to grind out tough games, esp on the road

if the avalanche are really having a fire sale, and are trying to move people, i think the bruins should make a offer for cody mcleod. he is young and big, tough, left hand shot, who has put in 12 goals playing with a bad team, without getting much playing time. he is a rfa. he can fight, but more importantly he is big with a left shot and can put the puck in the net. playing with bergeron and kobasew, i can only imagine his scoring would go up. he is cut from the same cloth as milan lucic.

i would love for the bruins to put a package together to get mcleod and leopold from the avalanche.

Personally, I am a fan of picking up morris for what? I'm not sure, he'd be a great addition to the d. I'm not sold on Tkachuk or Cole, but agree that we need a forward to fill in for Sturm. Someone had mentioned cody mcleod, for some reason I like that move.

although I don't feel that mcleod would fill the hole that we need.

psands... I like your idea of McLeod. I have not seen or heard much of him, but he has good size and you are right, 12 goals while averaging just under 11 minutes of ice time a game is pretty good. Especially on the Avs this year. What would we have to give up though? He is only 24 and the Avs may be looking at the same thing we are.
What about Lashoff and a 2nd or 3rd to Colorado for McLeod and Leopold (or Salei).
The other guy I like who has been mentioned is Frolov from LA. He was another I never looked at..... but like the idea of him with Bergeron and Kobasew.

and E-Klown..... no comment!

E-Klown...wow! I must say, that's one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen before haha. Guy has basically been the wire to wire leader in GAA and Save Percentage and your going to say he's a liability. I'm sure Marty Brodeur has let in a soft goal or two in his career.

I agree with a lot of the points made. I think their best bet is to go the cheap route so we don't have to give up any big name players from the roster. Cole or Frolov to put on the 3rd line and Morris would be a cheap cost to the Bruins and much better than Shane Knidy.

Who knows, maybe they will just bring in a guy like Morris and stand pat on Offense, maybe move Hunwick to the 3rd line when Lucic comes back.
**oh wait I forget, PJ Axellson has Coach Julien in his back pocket and will play more than any other forward**

Did anyone see sport center last night what a joke bergeron and kessel for pronger I think it was Ray ferraro that said it what a retard. He says this after they tell us that the ducks dont want to take on to much salary in a trade for pronger.

9:45 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

First of all... no way Pronger is worth THAT much! Second.... what part of "Don't want to mess with the chemistry too much" does Ferraro not understand??!!
I think Ray was hit in the head one too many times during his playing days! LOL

As much as it pains me to say being I hate the leafs. Tomorrow, Kaberle - Antropov for Hunwick - Colbourne and a first round pick.
This give the bruins the winger and the defence they are looking for - Kaberle salary would offset Manny's and they could dump Antropov is he does crap in the playoffs. - It makes total sense -

TSN reports the bruins have aquired antropov and Kaberle for hunwick, lashoff, and a second.

There are thousands of trade scenarios that "make sense". What makes sense, is watching the news today and tomorrow to see if PC makes a deal. Not reading ten thousand trade fantasies, from the same Bruins fans that wanted Kessell gone last year, didnt think Ryder was a good signing, that a league BEST goaltender is a playoff liability (Nice one E-tard)....need I go on?
Cant you all just watch and wait, and realize that PC is building a team, so he is not going to throw away all that work for a castoff? If he does make a deal, it will be a good one.

Oh geez, I hope I am not "acting all tough", or upsetting anyone with my "be all, end all knowledge" (simple hockey logic).

It has been so amusing to me watch the reactions transgress on this board for the last 20 months I have been posting here.

Half of you change your stance on a player within one or two games of swing performance, and more than half of you are the most impatient, "the grass is green on the other side" fans I have ever encountered.

Say what you mean, mean what you say, and stick to your guns.

Most importantly, remember these words of a loyal Boston sports writer and fan;

"It takes neither courage nor intelligence to cheer for a team only when that team wins. The true test of a fan's mettle is the same as it is for a player: Were you there when you were needed?"

I agree with the majority of what you said, Jefe77. There are a lot of bandwagon fans.... for every team.... in every sport. But, this is a site where we can express our opinions. Who would we like to see or who we would not want. No foul in that.

I think PC has built a solid reputation on knowing his job. He has drafted and traded for some great players and prospects. And I highly doubt that is going to change within the next 24 hours.

Bottom line... here is hoping for a great run in the playoffs, and possible a visit from Lord Stanley!

Jefe77 ( or Hello McFly )....

What Thomas proved in the playoffs so far? Nothing ! The best goaltender in the league... Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha !!!

What a good joke. Did you look Backstrom playing with Minni? This guy is the best goaltender in the NHL so far and he doesn't have someone like Manny to back up his ass. Before insulting someone ( re E-Klown ) check you stuff...

Oh, you must be Biff! Hello Biff.

Hey Biff, I do check my stuff.

Thats exactly what I have always done, and I will attempt to translate your poorly worded sentences (hello we-tahd!).

Your saying, have I seen Backstrom with Minni, and your asking me about playoff experience and laughing? Thomas has better reg season stats and playoff stats, so what EXACTLY are you talking about?

Im going to let you in on a little secret Biff.

Did you know that Thomas plays on one of the best offensive and skating teams in the NHL, while your hero plays on a team that is coached by Lemaire? Do you know who Jacques Lemaire is? You really know hockey, dont you buddy?

You really are Biff, aren't you? You are so dense, you insult yourself by virture of contradiction and lack of knowledge all within one or two statements. Amazing. Your a new low!

You are obviously not a Bruins fan, and if you claim to be,...man, that would be insulting to the real fans!

Mook and Bosborn, you both have always had my respect. And bosborn, you are right. It is a board for opinions, and people are entitled to talking about rumors. I just watch carefully the nature of poeple's wants and desires for this team. I know you have been watching for many a year as well, and I find it amusing those who have not seem to know so much more than any NHL GM.

Hey Biff, why dont you make like a tree, and get out of here?

Go read a few books you dumbfuck, you might learn sentence structure.

Anonymous.... although Backstrom does have good stats, Thomas is tops in GAA and Save %. And, Boston is 1st in the East.... Minnesota is 10th... big difference. Also, what has Backstrom proved in the playoffs??!!
Before going on a tear... you may want to "check your stuff" too!

Satan on waivers - cheap pick up - he is a L/hand shot winger. Might be a good fit with Krejci. Ryder can play with Bergeron - Might be a good fit - What do you guys think?

3:25 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Bosborn, I couldnt help myself! He really set himself up with the whole McFly drop.

...and if I remember correctly, McFly kicks Biffs ass...I'd rather be McFly any day!

Satan is an interesting thought. I just wonder how he could play on a team with Malkin and Crosby, and not have better numbers.

3:34 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Satan would be interesting. Heck, play him with Bergeron and Kobasew. On the third line, the pressure would be off of him. Could possibly get him for a mid round pick since they placed him on waivers. Maybe it was the system? He has averaged 30 goals a season, and would be off the books at the end of the year. Could be worth a shot.

is gary roberts like a leperrierrerrerre?

i dont see anything happening other than pronger.

Lucic,Savard,Kessel,Wheeler,Krejci,Ryder,Nokelainen/hunwick,Bergeron,
Kobasew

Are there better forwards available? (That are worth the trouble...)

It's not worth "bolstering" the 4th line. acquiring a 3rd line winger won't bring any cups here...and I wouldn't want to trade noke, sobotka or colbourne.

i'm worried about signing krejci and kessel.

as a side note, anyone see andrew alberts play lately? boy he sucks.

4:20 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Good point Mook, what bolstering does our fourth line need. Hell, they were the biggest scoring threat during the Bruins slump.

I think I heard the Flyers were considering waiving Alberts. Stong, but very immobile.

Thats what Im thinking bosborn, maybe he didnt like the coaches, and there might be less pressure in Boston. The Bruins are the #1 seed right now, but watch, come playoff time how many critics will offer up "how" the Bruins will lose. Fact is, the Bruins need more scoring going in, and preferably a left handed shot. Satan is waived, why the hell not if they cant otherwise land anything better. If worst comes to worst, we bench him.

Much like our new buddy; Biff. Where you at Biff? I cant wait for you to set yourself up again for further embarrassment.
