Trade targets

Here are some potential available players the Bruins may look to acquire before the trading deadline. These players all have expiring contracts after this season. I do not feel like the Bruins will target a player with any additional time on their contracts because their cap situation for the 09-10 season is projected to be right up against the ceiling (after they sign their RFA's and Thomas) and an additional move may be done in the offseason. Here are players with expiring contracts and potentially available at the trade deadline:

Player - Current Team - Stats (Goals-Assists-Total)
Michael Reasoner - Atlanta Thrashers - 7-8-15
Eric Perrin - Atlanta Thrashers - 5-7-12
Ian Lapperriere - Colorado Avalanche - 4-9-13
Tyler Arnason - Colorado Avalanche - 3-11-14
Michael Peca - Columbus Blue Jackets - 4-9-13
Eric Cole - Edmonton Oilers - 11-10-21
Richard Zednik - Florida Panthers - 6-10-16
Radek Dvorak - Florida Panthers - 7-14-21
Kyle Calder - LA Kings - 6-10-16
Mike Comrie - NY Islanders - 6-9-15
Doug Weight - NY Islanders - 7-25-32
Bill Guerin - NY Islanders - 14-18-32
Andy Hilbert - NY Islanders - 8-9-17
Chris Neil - Ottawa Senators - 2-4-6
Keith Tkachuk - St Louis Blues - 15-16-31
Dan Hinote - St. Louis Blues - 1-1-2
Andy McDonald - St. Louis Blues - 6-12-18
Mark Recchi - Tampa Bay Lightning - 10-21-31
Nik Antropov - Toronto Maple Leafs - 13-22-35
Dominic Moore - Toronto Maple Leafs - 9-16-25

Peter Chiarelli will probably acquire a player but not the impact "first line" guy we all may want him to get. Chiarelli will not risk trading away high draft picks or young prospects with high upside. Assuming this to be the case, look for Chiarelli to target a veteran who has playoff experience. A left handed shot is probably high on the Bruins wish list as is someone who has some size who can play physical in the postseason.

I wouldnt take any of them except maybe Andy Macdonald or Mike Comrie. And those are bluechips for those teams. The Islanders and Blues will want to pry into Bostons youth.

Fuck that.

Tim Thomas. All Star goalie. Leads the league amongst starters in save percentage.

So....where are the Timmy haters now?

Dont mean to bring up an old arguement that myself, mook and only a few others supported...but, seriously...I want to hear from some of you who told me all along Tim Thomas sucks.

Tell me what is going through your head now. This is a serious question...what do you think of Tim Thomas' performance? On that note, I will be the first to admit that Manny has played as good as he did in his all-star season in Minnesota...but what about Timmy? He has been the better goalie so i just want to hear some comments.

You know what's not funny anymore? All this "Hi Mook" and "PJ rocks" stuff.

It's not annoying, and it's also not clever...come-up with something new...I know you have the time. Prove to everyone that it's worth reading your posts and that you're more than someone who's mom we all bang.

Ok Fernandez is playing great, and is perfect bait. I'd rather keep him, but not at 4mil per. On the other hand, who's available? Not sure any available players (based on the list in the post) who are upgrades to what we would have to demote.

How about this:
Fernandez and a pick to the kings for Kopitar. The Kings need goaltending and they're lost a lot of picks to shitty trades. Throw-in a minor-leager like Reich and there ya go.

Jefe 77 I have said Manny is the better goalie and Im not going to change my mind. That being said Thomas has been very good and yes he has won games that we maybe shouldn't have cause of him but on the other hand we have lost and almost lost games because of his bad rebound control and being out off position. Let me ask you this where does most of there shots come from and if we had Turco or Fleury or even Khabibulin for that matter what do you think there goals against or save percentage would be? My money would would say they be in the top 5 as well and if by chance we dont resign him will find out how good he really is and if this happens and hes still in the top 5 then I will say you were right and he is an awesome goalie but I doubt this will happen. My opinion Nooffense your a good guy Jefe 77. Fallse Owen Sound

Did you know that the Bruins are the only team in the Eastern Conf. that have three forwards with 40 pts or more, AND 2 defenceman with 30pts or more entering the all star break?
Check it out!

are these posts in english?!?!

yes, i said wheeler needed more time in providence...and i said that during his first 10 games (2 points, -1).

manny is not a better goaltender than thomas...otherwise manny would be playing. why does everyone assume julien is an idiot? sure you may not agree with some of his decisions, but they're 1st in the east aren't they? maybe if you don't understand why something is happening, you should shut-up and pay attention...you might learn something.

hindsight is 20/20 you moron. "complaints" are not "opinions".

The Kings don't trade Kopitar unless they're getting youth and picks back. not a 30+ year old goalie, a pick, and a minor leaguer (at best).

They'd want a guy like Krejci or Kessel...

1st-string goalies are hard to come by...

how about:

fernandez
nokelainen
2nd round pick
3rd round pick

maybe even a 1st rounder...kings aren't going anywhere.

Not that I wouldn't like to see Kopitar in a Bruins jersey, I mean he's a great young player, but I can't see it happening. His new contract also pays him $7 million a season for the next 7 years...

Fallse, thats a good reply. Its what i was at looking for, but we can remain in good dissagreance about Thomas vs. Manny. Manny does have better form and rebound control, but i firmly believe Thomas' fiery nature and trying as hard as he can to stop every puck makes him better...plus the guy is so damn fast. Hey, this is not a bad arguement for Bruins fans, is it? Two good goalies? That right there gives me great confidence going into the stretch.

Anyways, on the Kopitar subject, I highly doubt they would part with him just yet, it seems they have become more patient, just like the Bruins, and the Bruins would have some serious shaving to do in order to fit him under the cap.

Lets not forget, they are facing 3 contracts next season in Krecji, Kessel and Thomas. Timmy and Manny are UFA's so it is simply not possible to sign both. I think they will sign Thomas to a 3 year deal, and i think he will go for it regardless of the fact he could cash in somewhere else.

Krejci and Kessel are RFA's, but you have to pay them a significant increase from the last contract, or your looking at pissing people off (agents and players) and possible holdouts. The Bruins have shown EVERYONE they dont play these games anymore. Sinden is DONE. That that festive-ass martha fokker!!!

By the way, after Charas 105.3 shot, the only history Iafrate holds now in the NHL is the worst mullet ever!

Just read on Spector's blog that Glen Metropolit could be waived by the Flyers. I think it would be great if the B's could pick him up. That would be a missing puzzle piece.

vince m, metropolit is terrible. he would add less offense then axelsson (probably the saddest thing i have ever heard).

I actually loved Metropolit in Boston last year. He was great. Always Competing, good face-off guy, back checking...

On a side note: probably one of the only cool things I've seen on hockeybuzz: ever...

B's have got a tough 3 weeks coming up. Caps, Mon, NYR, PHIx2, NJx2, SJ..a lot of points up for grabs in the Eastern conference through those games. Another strong stretch will help solidify the top spot in the conference.

Mook every time I say something you comment on me knowing nothing about hockey and if you dont like my opinions then atleast have the hockey brains to debate why. Not just Thomas is better Wow. Did you ever stop and think there playing Thomas more to keep him happy so we can resign him for decent price. I watch every game and I mean every game so dont tell me I dont know my own team so FU mook. "Did you ever stop and think there playing Thomas more to keep him happy so we can resign him for decent price"

THAT is hockey knowledge? What are you a fucken psychologist? Want me to prattle-off some useless stats? How about this: By watching Thomas play, I SEE he is the better goalie...less weak goals, inspires his team to win and seems like he is an asset in the changeroom. Manny is good, but allows more weak goals, and says things like "the defense knows they have to play harder when i'm back there". So fuck yourself. Want me to break-down their goaltending style? I've never been a goalie (on ice) so I won't try, but having played ice hockey (as i'm sure you have too) it is plain to see who has more confidence.

I pass through Bay and King 4:30 every day, southwest corner. I wear my bruins toque. I bet I never see you...and I'm not going to some butt-fuck town either.

5:24 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

Not sure what is going to happen on Bay and King, but I do have to agree with Mook that Thomas has been given the ice time by virtue of better play.

I dont think any NHL team who is trying to win and make the playoffs, can afford to give a goalie ice time merely to please him.

The bigger picture is points, and Manny has contributed in that dept. as well, but Timmy continues to win big. I think you both are some of the better posters here, but we all see things differently.

On that note; cant we all get along and meet in Toronto one day for some fries and gravy...and an ass whooping over the leafs by the Bruins?

Never been to Toronto. Only dirty Montreal. (its actually an impressive city...aside from most of its residents).
