Bruins 3 - Habs 1

Despite being outplayed, especially in the first period, the Bruins came away with a huge victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens came out playing physical and hungry and obvious the more desperate of the two teams. However, the Bruins defended the Garden, stuck with their gameplan, and trusted in Julien's system to pull out the victory. Good teams find ways to win, no matter what the circumstances, and that is exactly what the Bruins did tonight, by winning a big game without 4 of their top forwards. Tim Thomas came up with unbelievable saves throughout the course of the game. Zdeno Chara was the best player on the ice tonight and came up huge both offensively and defensively.

In the third period, Julien cut his lines down to just three. Axelsson moved up to the first line while Karsums and St. Pierre did not skate a shift in the 3rd. Bitz, Nokelainen, and Thornton alternated playing the wings on Yelle's line.

Due to another injury to Aaron Ward (charlie horse again), the Bruins only had 5 defensemen for the entire third period. Wideman and Chara both logged over 30 minutes.

David Krejci continues to pile up the points, adding a goal and an assist.

The highlight of the night came when Tim Thomas leveled Andrei Kostitsyn after he hit Ward from behind. Thomas leveled Kostitsyn as he skated in front of his crease and received two minutes for roughing. Kostitsyn received 5 for boarding.

The Bruins now hold a 12 point lead over the Canadiens in the standings.

Any body notice Komisarek 3 times hold the blue line by hitting the puck carrier with hip checks at the knees. What a cheap piece of shit that guy is. I am all for holding the blue but do it like a man and don't possibly cause knee injuries. I have no respect for him. I hope he knows better next time with 17 on the ice.

With all the injuries, there were some new faces making an impact for the Bruins. Can you tell me a little more about this Chris Lee fellow? I think that he really made the difference for the Bruins tonight!

that game alone was the reason why this club is more of a TEAM than any other club in the NHL. with that win last night we have a winning record against the habs nomatter what happens in the last two games against them. everything in that game last night made me so proud of this team.

What a great exhibition of grit and playing with a fire in your belly by the B's.

Say what you will of how they have played recently (Buffalo & Minnesota), when the stakes are raised the B's get the job done in spite of their injuries.

They will certainly be a force to be reckoned with when Ferrence, Bergeron and Looch returns. That's right Komisarek - Looch will return and you won't take liberty unless you want or need another shit-kicking.

The B's play as a TEAM and each player is dedicated to each other & the team. The Hab-nots on the other hand play as individual prima donnas.

The future for this team, barring any cap issues (Krecji & Kessel offer sheets) is limitless. We can only hope that PC signs both & that he is creative with working with the cap space available. It won't be easy - I hear the cap is due to be lowered.

Hey bruinsnorth..who said anything about mad? I thought it was a great game. I simply wish that the refs had let the players decide the outcome.

The league could have helped by sending one of their more competent referees to such an important game. C'mon...Chris Lee?

Glad you mentioned hits from behind. The only one I saw in the game was Wheeler on D'Agostini. Chipchura did the right thing and stepped in.

Take a look at the Kostitsyn hit again on Ward and tell me that deserves a major penalty. Not a chance! Is Aaron Ward really that fragile??

Come on Rocket. do we have to start putting the stop sign on the back of our jerseys?

And what you called on your blog about Thomas's hit to the head. I didn't know his head was at shoulder height.

From what I saw the calls were right. You just didn't like the calls because they went against you.

i know alot of people hate kevin paul dupont and i am one of them. but looking at his article today, although it may be completely stupid and would destroy this franchise, he is a smart man. most of us agree that taking a salary that large would only hurt the team for the next few years. not to mention breaking up the chemistry. but if you think about it KPD may or may not be serious. but what he is doin is getting everyone talkin bruins. weei was 50% bruins today. no way should they make this trade but good call by puttin it in the papers cuz it will draw more attention from everyone.

the refs called it a five minute major because ward had been hurt on the play, and then kostitsyn leveled him from behind. kostitsyn took what would normally be a minor penalty, but because ward was hurt previously it was five minutes, if ward had busted his head or broken his leg this wouldnt even be worthy of a discussion. kostitsyn could have let up, but instead he tried to injure ward. so stop trying to defend your cheap shotting bunch of skaters and fuck off.

Quite a crew here...good at spewing hate but more than a little light on hockey knowledge.

Watch the video. I posted it on All Habs for your convenience. Anyone who has seen it that has a shred of hockey sense cannot honestly argue that it was a hit worthy of a major penalty.

And in case you missed it, the NHL agrees. They announced today that Kostitsyn's name has been expunged from the list of repeat offenders for major infractions. Seems that they deemed it wasn't worthy of a 5 minute penalty.

So really guys, why so bitter? Is it the 24 Stanley Cups?

actually its the constant whining from the habs fan. They got beat and the first thing they say it was the refs fault. We shouldn't have had ref Chris Lee call the game. On one hand you are saying because the NHL deemed it wasn't a five minute penalty it shouldn't have been a major but on the other hand this group, the NHL doesn't know what its doing when it assigns league officials. Which is it do they know what they are talking about or dont they.

as for hockey knowledge let me say this. i think the penalty warranted a hit from behind penalty 2 or five. unlike us referees dont have the luxury of replays when they are on the ice. The ref deemed the hit to be five minutes from his view on the ice. so five minutes it is. Refs make mistakes, just like they did when Ribeiro lay on the ice faking an injury in the playoffs, do you remember that play rocket. Unlike many of the hab followers, I believe we should illiminate hitting from behind. Not only is it illegal, but someone could get seriously hurt (Bergeron for example). Oh by the way the NHL didnt think that should warrant more than two games but they gave the doorknob from Dallas five for making comments about Phaneufs girlfriend. Look at the Bergeron replay and you will see Bergerons head was driven into the boards.

I dont like the kostistyn brothers, I find them gutless. I have said before they are aggressive in the corners when the opponents back is turned. This hit was an example of that, look at sergeis hit on schenn, another gutless play.

Now I have to go to work and tonight i get to watch the number one team in the conference and NHL. (present day not living in the past)You on the other hand rocket can get ready to bitch about the refereeing again when the habs lose their next game.

come back anytime. OLE OLE OLE OLE hahah

For the record, I'll stipulate to any criticism you make about Riberio. Go nuts! I don't care. He was never a true Canadien in my books. Good riddance!

"Which is it do they know what they are talking about or dont they." Wow, it must be such a challenge for you living with such limiting choices. I'll make it simple for you: The NHL made a mistake sending Lee et al, and they covered up the mistake taking AK-46 off the list.

You know, some people play the language card, or the gender card, or the race card. I have a feeling that for the next 10 years, we can expect Bruins fans to play the "Bergeron card".

You cannot compare the hockey check that Kostitsyn delivered on an already injured and feeble Aaron Ward to what happened to Bergeron.

Take a look at the video. I invite you. Even Bruins fans who have come to my blog and seen it have conceded it wasnt worthy of a major penalty.

Please don't give me this pious nonsense about all Bruins fans wanting to clean up the game and all Habs fans wanting to goon it up. You look foolish writing such a thing.

I dont disagree Rocket, I was surprised it was a major to be honest. What position do you hold in the NHL office to understand their line of thinking or is it your arrogance from being a hab fan.

Maybe i didnt make myself clear enough for you. What I am saying is just cause the NHL didnt recognize it as a major doesnt mean they are right. They also didnt think the Bergeron hit was major cause jones only go two games. So in translation, just cause they rule something doesnt mean a thing to me.

as for the video where was kostistyn, behind ward and he hit him with enough force to justify a penalty. learn the game. as for habs gooning it up, between kotsopulous and the k brothers, there are enough guys missing games because of hits from behind. look at the videos.

so here is my solution for you, quit trying to say the penalty was the turning point, it wasnt. each team were on the power play six times, montreal scored once. the real difference in the game was that montreal was unable to score while at even strength.
cant stay too long i am getting dizzy spells from being so high up in the standings, hows life down in the middle of the pack.

It says it all when you are celebrating to the point of dizziness as your team has had some success over the first 40 games of a season.

I suppose that's what happens when your team hasn't won a conference championship in 20 years, and a Stanley Cup in almost 40 years.
