No Muzz on the Move

Straight from Spectorshockey:

It's believed the Thrashers, Senators, Panthers, Kings and Canucks have all shown interest in struggling Bruins winger Glen Murray.

Spector's Note: Fading offensive production since 2003, an injury history since 2005-06, age (35) and $4.15 million per season (he's not a UFA next summer as Garrioch claimed) means Murray's staying in Boston.

My own personal opinion: If there's rumors floating around that five different teams are possibly interested, then I'll take the "where there's smoke, there's fire" approach. I also think that if any team is a legit contender or looking to bolster a third line scoring touch then something could get done. As much of a history that the Bruins and Senators have for swapping players in any form, I highly doubt that Murray would end up in Ottawa (even though he would make a great fit on that team).

Spectorshockey says it all, Murray is clearly fading and is a shell of his former 40+ goal self. This is the last thing the B's need and Marco Sturm certainly isn't going to be able to take this team on his back.

That's the problem with that rumour. If Murray is fading, why a team would trade for him and pay his 4 per contract for a year and a half? Boston is stuck with Murray unless a GM will be fish enough to think that Murray can be a difference maker...

A change of scenery is probably what Muzz needs. And like everyone knows, he can put them in the net. He's the type of player who will quietly score and when you look at stats he'll have 20 or 30 goals. Doesn't look like it this year, unless he starts on a tear. People can dream about a Muzz and prospects for Hossa. Right now, Chia has Muzz that "can" score 40 goals a year, and what he's seeing he'll get back are mostly "maybe" they can score 20-30 goals. I don't agree in trading him unless you get something BIG in return and with his performance, doesn't look likely. Plus, at the end of the year you can get Muzz for nothing as I don't think he's coming back to Boston unless for less.

So then why not trade Muzz for a high draft pick, reclaim the cap space and move some of the younger guys (Lashoff maybe) in a package with Axelsson for a proven scorer? In fact Pitt is hurting for exactly what we have and they have glut of power up front. Or make a run at Hossa?

Reason being Hossa is unrestricted and if he will get 8MM+ in the free market and Chia only wants to offer 5MM, then essentially you will rent Hossa for the price of Muzz and Lashoff and maybe even a draft pick. B's come out as losers. Howvere, if Hossa were to indicate he would settle for 3-5 years by Savard then giddiup. This NHL is all about tomorrow, not today. Hossa here will not make the Bruins cup contenders and Chia would want someone for 5+ years.

Well if Bergeron gets healthy again (and let's pray he does) then Hossa here will in fact take us a step closer to getting to the cup. The B's would be 1 proven veteran (forward) away (and about 2yrs max) to getting to the cup, providing we can extend Thomas and Rask steps up. I do not think it is unrealistic this team will mature over the next two years and become legitimate contenders. Just not this year, nor next. Like you said, think long term. Let's hope Hossa would sign long term for shorter dollars.

For what it's worth, Eklund says Bruins are interested in Phoenix defenceman Derek Morris.

Why is it that the Bruins are always looking to Phoenix for defencemen?
A couple of years ago it was Tanabe, last year it was Mara and now it's Morris. Don't the Bruins ever learn?

"Defensemen? We don't need no stinkin defense men.. ha ha ha ha ha.." (reference blazing saddles, well, almost).

Hopefully not. Our D is solid.. let's focus on forwards that can put the puck in the net.
