Wideman Signs New Deal

According to Sportsnet.ca, the Bruins signed Dennis Wideman to a 4 year deal worth 15.75 million or 3.9375 per.

A lot more than I thought he would get, I was looking at between 2.8 and 3.3 per.  More to come tomorrow.

what was the last horrible signing? ryder? chara? savard (for only 5mil)? bergeron (for only 4.75)?
go away asshole. i'm sick of your anonymous shit. i hope chiarelli signs your wife with his dick.

your right, the last horrible signing was chara. chara sucks and is COMPLETELY overpaid. he should spend the offseason learning to skate not hiking a mountain. worst contract signing ever.

haha thanks for you input anonymous. you're right. our top scoring d-man with the best plus/minus on the team last year is complete garbage. he was only nominated for the norris trophy. no big deal...

yeah i'd say this pretty much confirms that there will be no more murray this year. glad boston was able to sign wideman, however the price was a bit hefty... hopefully he will live up to his contract.

Christ, do we have to? Tet again, we overpay! Hey B's management, I've got the Brooklyn Bridge to sell ya! Nice and cheap too!

Widemen was a solid d man all year and if you take a look at what is out there you will see the youth and I liked his play around the net ...I don't see the price as high considering the amount of d men we last over the course of a season last year/....

Wideman was huge last year, played big minutes and had a good plus/minus. If he can continue improving his game then this is a great signing. In 3 years I can see him being a top defender in the league, BUT I can also see him being an overpaid underacheiver.

Hopefully he can live up to his pottential then getting him for under 4 is a steal.

BYE BYE MUZZ!

sometimes you get what you pay for...
$600k buys a 600k effort. $4mil buys a $4mil effort.
Add that to the comfort of knowing you're going to stick with a young talented team for a while and you have a solid 25 minute-per-game player.
we can afford to pay wideman 4mil because of chiarelli's good signings in the past (locking-up savard for 5mil, bergeron 4.75mil, all the youth for peanuts, etc etc like i said earlier). the whole league overpays now, it's not just the bruins...too many average players and no more elite dependable ones so you pay when you can. BASEBALL overpays.

I look at the numbers and the plus minus is a big joke, even for d-men. Everytime I noticed Wideman on the ice it was because he did something stupid. Granted I will never fully appreciate the guy because he is the reason we dont have Boyes but all and all I'm not sold that he is solid around the blue line. I know that the is the offensive defenseman but my 3 cents are that we overpaid. I don't think that Wideman makes us go deeper in the playoffs.

I want a GM that is going to shock me in how much he wants to win. Chiarelli seems too conservative for me and never seems to want to make a big move...prob because the Thornton deal was so big and so crazy that he has to air on the side of caution but either way I'm not a big fan of him.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

so who would you go sign then to win us a cup?
hossa? (didnt work for pittsburgh)
jagr? (russia)
gretzky? (retired)
what would please you, please tell me because i'm sick to shit of hearing "chiarelli shouldn't of done that" but you have nothing to say except "wideman ain't worth 4mil". blogs are for different opinions, not the same "chiarelli is a moron" talk.
want to be shocked? bruins predicted to come second-to-dead-last last year, and they make the playoffs. if you still think chiarelli sucks after pulling a miracle like then, then go fuck your mother you cocksucking malcontent. go watch baseball and suck a hotdog.

What are you saying then? You want some of our core players moved for what? Thank God your not GM,...are you going to answer the phone for Bergeron and Savard deals? How bout another MOC quick fix? That really worked out...

So, it was either Hossa or Chia is conservative? He went out and got one of the top UFA's, and has been building a team since he has been here; not buying one.

Whats shocking, is that we get a GM with a plan, a new face to the team with credibility he and Cam bring, and all the same crap keeps coming out of peoples mouths.

It seems many dont understand what Chia is doing by building a team, and culturing success through allowing the players to develop into a team, and to build confidence in the players that the faith the organization should invest in its players is there.

Its THAT lack of credibility that made Boston a hard sell for UFA's. There has been a upper office overhaul like we havent had in decades. That reputation is being erased, with signings like Widemans and Wards.

You dont think ALL the players in the league DONT pay attention to that? That is a major factor, and before we had NO chance of EVER landing any top UFA's. Players and agents now know that the Bruins will reward them for hard work, and that they will be treated well.

All these changes in business trend and player development, and alot of you dont even notice, let alone appreciate!!!

Hey Mook....wideman ain't worth 4mil!

2:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Sundin is worth 10 mil
Wideman is worth 4 mil.
the market was set by other teams paying rediculous money for UFA this year. Ultimaly the bruins will be better with Wideman than without him. I don't care what you knotheads are saying but Chia and Neely are doing the right things - maybe not this year but a few years from now this team will achieve the upper echelon of the league. Look at the Stanley cup winners over the past few years, they are teams with depth not the big ass paid jerk off loosers like on Ottawa - Pitsburg - Rangers -

If anyone cares for my opinion I will give it. I would love to hear feedback on what I have to say.

I like this signing. Why?

He is a solid part of our d-unit. Yes we have a unit. The more the core of these players play together the better they will be. Keep the core together and grow as a team. What this d-unit needs now is a puck-moving D-man to quarterback the power play.

I personally like what PC is doing with the Bruins. Like it was said earlier, you build a team not buy one. It has never worked for the Rangers and it won't work here. All we need is a piece here and there and the puzzle is complete.

You beat me too it by minutes...I like the signing. Get a good player locked up for several years rather than swapping out the position every year. As for the money...if Edmonton throws $24M/6 years at Tom Gilbert...I think $4m/year is not bad for Wideman

And yes anonymous, I did say something.

This phenomena usually occurs after a collection of idiocracies grace the board.

Main point revisited...Chia and Cam bring a credibility to play in Boston like we have not had in years. We now have changed our reputation as a team that does not reward work and dedication.

Question: Why isn't the Wideman signing on the B's website?

Could something be in the works? I had heard something could be going down with San Jose yesterday.

Someone has to be leaving Muzz, Scheafer, Axe, Alberts?

Anyone have any ideas?

It is nice to see some action finally on this website - Must be lots of bored people surfing for any crumb of bruins news during work hours. Hopefully the Bruins do not screw around this year like us during working hours. I have a good feeling for the upcoming year and can't wait to finally shut up the pessimist fans who are pissed Chia did not make a bigger deal during the off season - I will bet anyone here Hossa will get flattened this season and miss most of the season.

What is your favorite Boston sports team?
Red Sox (70.8%)
Bruins (8.1%)
Celtics (4.7%)
Patriots (15.0%)
Revolution (1.5%)

atleast we have more of a following than the "world champion" boston celtics...shows championships cant even buy you popularity in this town anymore

It's a foregone conclusion that Wideman is realistically not worth $4M. However, due to the rather unrealistic value that the Leafs signed Finger for, the market has now been set.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, we are now over the cap & Muzz will in all liklihood be bought out. If Manny falters, can he be far behind with Rask just chomping at the bit to get a chance.

Come on guys quit complaining about the money it was a solid sign. Chia has been so patient with this franchise and things are only looking up.

Murray hopefully bought out in next couple weeks and we are set for the season in terms of players.

I love what I am hearing about Wheeler and Marchand. Hopefully they get a little playing time in this season with the big club.

Last years numbers for Wideman:
81gp 13g 23a 36p +11 25:09 min/game

How are these stats sub par? Wideman was 2nd in min/game last year and a +11 is pretty damn good. I'm sick of the "anonymous" pesimists on this site. For 4 years at 4 mil that is a good signing, with todays inflated slaries. I see Wideman developing into a great defenseman. All you Brad Boyes lovers can kiss my taint, he is a soft player and without Paul Kariya last year he doesn't put up those numbers.

I'll go out on a limb and say that 3yrs from now Wideman will develope into a better player at his position than Boyes.

2 yrs from now Wideman will be a bargain at 4 mil. As will Bergeron at 4.75 and Savard at 5. Start giving Chia some credit. He is BUILDING a team that is going to be a force in 3-5 years.

Wideman will play to his market level and above.

Its quite difficult to find solid young d-men, and with the Leafs screwing with the market, this absolutely is a bargain deal.

Unfortunately Jimmy, a good number of so called Bruins fans have no patience whatsover.

FYI, if Murray is bought out, it will have happened by NHL rule within 48 hours of Widemans signing. If not he may be traded, or as I am personally hoping, we get rid of Manny rather, or a combo of Reich and Schaeffer.

Murray is a Bruin at heart; no matter what happens lets not forget that. Maybe Im a romanticist, but the thought of him coming back after all the crit he's been through (he might have scored 30 last year barring injury), is something I would relish.

I have been going to this site, http://spokedb.blogspot.com/ for the past couple of months. Even tho it is the off-season he still puts up fillers that are worth reading.

This site is a joke and he used to be loyal here but got annoyed with the lack of posts so branched off to help out all of you readers.
