The Young Guys 2.0

Okay let me try this again, the first one is gone and I will admit I wrote it poorly and my point wasn't made, obviously.

Here I go, the young guys, Lucic, Sobotka, Krejci and Nokelainen are decent prospects, and on a top projection, Lucic will be a 20 goal scorer, Krejci similar to Bergeron, Sobtoka and Nokie being plugger with potential to score 10 goals.

But, many people are playing the old, "wait and don't sign anyone, let the kids play, we made the playoffs and took the Habs to 7 games!"  Well, first off, we were only 10 points out of first, but 1 point away from being out the playoffs.  They were 1 win away from not having to play the Canadiens in the first place, and anyone satisfied with losing in the 1st round in the playoffs, come on.  We haven't won a playoff series in 10 years!

This team can't bank on the improvement of these kids for this season.  I can't stand when people say that this team will get to the playoffs, because it might just miss them as well.  Bergeron is coming back, Fernandez is coming back, but when you look at this team now, you just can't bank on Krejci and Lucic doing well.  These guys will hopefully pan out, but I think we are all doing the Red Sox thing and really being pumped about these guys when they only played 30 good games (Krejci) or did well in the playoffs (Sobotka).  I'm not ready to say, these guys can really bring this team to the playoffs as the team stands now.

My first post kind of made it seem like I was saying the prospects suck, which wasn't what I was trying to say.

I understand what you're saying, we don't have any superstar prospects. I think everybody will agree with that. However the depth in the Bruins system is pretty deep, and these young men are willing to work their balls off. I'm not saying to "let em play", I still believe the B's need a couple marquee players to take them back to the promised land, but they have assembled a nice core to surround a superstar or two around.

Hit the nail on the head for me. Thank you. They have a nice core of young guys, but they must surround them with some more talent. This team as is is not good enough to make a run of any sort, like it or not.

i agree wit the young guns, but i am more then pleased with the way the season went #1 most of nhl sites had boston DEAD LAST...big improvement considering now bergie...one other guy commented it perfect...Tampa bay Carolina Edmonton Buffalo...teams that did not have SUPER STAR teams...mediocre goalies...lets sign HOSSA...PLEASE BOSTON needs him badly get rid of murray...watching him play was horrible i went to game 3 which boston won by the way but he dont have the legs for it or common sense and get rid of schaefers contract...THE END

always agreed what what said mostly on here, but not now. The young guys in the Bruin system are great. They don't need to be all superstars. Teams that dow ell have great chemistry and work together. Look at all the other teams that signed top guys and ended no where. Examples: San Jose and NY rangers .
Boston needs to stay with the program and keep building within. We werent suppose to win the cup and not this this year either. Year 3 should be the year and it should be next year.
Another point is why sign Hossa??
Money is too high. We should go after Ryder or Vrbata/Rolston. Then sign a defensemen like Hainsey or Redden. All guys that will make under 5 million. So lets keep the young guys, add a few spares, and enjoy the ride.

My fantasy line-up is:

Kessel- Savard- Lucic
Sturm- Bergeron-Ryder
Kobesaw-Krecji- Murray
Thornton- Wheeler- Axelson

Chara- Wideman
Redden/hainsey - Ward
Ference- Lashoff/Hnidy

Thomas/ Auld

I'm in agreement that the young guys need to stay. Like you said the chemistry of this team is great, that's why PC didn't make a foolish move at the trade deadline. After all they weren't supposed to do much last year, and that was when they had Bergie.

That being said that is why Hossa fits this team. He knows people here, So I don't see chemistry being an issue. I think Ryder would be a poison, probably because he's a HAB. So dump Murray to make room for Hossa and Hainsey, and DO NOT move any young talent unless it is absolutely necessary! Besides, I could see Hossa taking a paycut of 1/2 mil or so to play with Chara and Savard again (probably just being optimistic).

It would be unfortunate if Wideman's price comes back too high, but you have to cut him loose. I don't want to see the B's sign him to an overpriced and extensive contract. After all he's only had 1 good season. IMO Hainsey is better than wideman.

I'm starting to think that Hossa is not going to be coming to Boston. There are several teams that have a ton of cap room - Like Columbus and Edmonton, both of whom need/want to make a splash. I wouldn't be suprised by both of these teams making offers of $8-$10M per year. I would assume that Hossa would take the extra $2M per year instead of playing with his "Friends"

HOSSA is it y...when was the last 50 goal scorer for boston....early 90's by a man name SEABASS..come on wit savard dishing the puck to him on the PP we dont have that lucic is not a first line player u need him on the third line to create that energy ....3 easy salarys to get rid of....MURRAY who has lost everything...Schaefer...you know wat is said there....AND MANNY FERNANDEZ wat a wasted load...let timmy do all the work....resign AULD who kept the bruins in a lot of games down the stretch..

One of the articles in the Globe said that there was a slim chance that Hossa was coming here. My thoughts are why sign one very good player who will virtually wipe out our cap space when the Bruins could sign several players who aren't superstars but are considered good. I think it would be better to give this team scoring depth.
I don't think you can bank on our youth either. For one there really are no potential superstars and you really don't know how a young player will preform. The young players who played in the playoff did well but haven't truly proved themselves yet.

we have enough of those players that are star players...savard sturm bergeron ...even kobasew played well...kessel got better as the season went on..now we have the kid blake wheeler..theres another young talented kid. i don't think hossa will sign wit edmonton or columbus...y would you there not a real playoff contender...you wanna win championships spend the money...ONE OTHER REASON...coach juliens defensive system was great HOSSA is one of those two way players that can play in all situations...i don't understand y he wasnt up for coach of the year....ridiculous

Julien WAS the coach of the year. Bruce Boudreau didn't deserve the award. He had Ovechkin carrying his team into the playoffs, coaching had nothing to do with them making the postseason. The Bruins faced adversity all year long, from Bergeron going down in October, Alberts going down, Savard breaking his back the last 2 weeks of the regular season, and Kobasew breaking his leg and missing the playoffs. Nobody deserved the award more than Julien and he wasn't even a finalist. He took this team who was AWFUL in '06 and showed them how to play DEFENCE. Showed them how this game is supposed to be played..and brought them 1 game away from beating the #1 seed in the playoffs.

I don't think I would spend more than 8mil on Hossa, I'd rather have Campbell and Brandon Morrison for the money (probably not possible for 8, oh well)

i wouldnt say its not possible but well see..he turned down 7 mil. year from a definite contender for years...thats a lil strange considering pittsburgh is probably gonna be the next to win...but hossa i would think would sign for 8...i cant wait to see wat happens to the bruins..tomorrow...hopefully bye bye murray and fernandez
