Pour my my glass of Kool-Aid OOOH YEAH!

Tim who? Manny who? Tuukka Rask baby! This guy was phenomenal tonight. Some great saves and really quick reflexes. He had some great pad saves in traffic. The two goals he allowed were cheesey. One was a deflection which he had no chance at, and the other was a 90 mph knuckler from the blueline

Rask looked very confident and had great posistioning in net. He seemed calm and didn't fold under pressure. The Bruins finally generated some offense to make a comback win.

So after Manny sits on the bench in Minnesota and watches Backstrom impressively take over goaltending duties, Manny sweats and is shipped to Boston. He is relieved since he figures to be the number 1 goalie with Thomas backing him up. Then he goes down with an injury and sees Rask play in the NHL and play well. So now, Manny is in the pressbox, sweating again, and fearing that he will be shipped out of Boston if any takers out there would take the chance. Since this is a rumours board, let's begin shall we? Manny & Matt Lashoff for Vinny LeCavalier. No? Manny, Alberts and Soderberg for Hossa. Not good enough yet? Hmmm... Manny, Reich and Hoggan for Marleau. Heck, Manny, Reich and Hoggan for JOE THORNTON!! Ok, ok. But I think we can agree, $4MM+ for a third goalie is not going to cut it. Watch for Chia to sign a third strong goalie from somewhere, and that'll be your sign - Rask is not going back to the AHL and Manny can pack his bags.

Christ sakes, you people need to really calm down. I can only imagine what you would all be saying if the Bruins started out as hot as the Celtics did. You'd be planning the parade route and rally at Government Center already.

RELAX.

This was one freakin' game folks. Yes, Rask looked very good in his debut. Yes, Rask looked confident out there. Yes, he did get the win and yes, he made some nice saves. Manny Fernandez isn't leaving town anytime soon. Get a hold of yourselves.

I would not be the least bit surprised if Rask was sent back down to Providence in order to get him more work. Lets not forget, the one game he played in Providence before last night he lost 3-2.

Once again, take a deep breath and just calm down.

I heard that Julien is looking to give Timmy a week or two break and end up giving Rask 3-5 straight starts. Rask looked very good, but I don't agree that the first goal he gave up was one that he had no chance at. It was deflected, but it was deflected 30 feet away. Regardless, we need to see more of this kid, a few games at a time and let him mature at the AHL for long stretches this season while Timmy is hot.

actually, the first goal was tipped twice, possibly even three times. the second goal was tipped by Aaron Ward and unfortunately the knuckler beat Rask. The best thing about Rask was the hype seems to be true. I've seen him play three times now and every time I have uttered the words "He makes it look so simple". For another goaltender to say that, he's doing something marvelous.

FURTHERMORE, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you folks also said these grand things about Andrew Raycroft, Byron Dafoe, Blaine Lacher, et al.

Just like Dennis Green said, "If you want to crown 'em, then crown their ass!" As for this guy, I'm pumped as well, but I certainly want to see a much larger sample group before I serve myself my first chilled glass of Rask flavored kool-aid.

My guess is they ship him back to Providence, and for good reason. Why?
Well they did bring in Manny and will give him every opportunity (as he deserves) to show that he is capable. They are spending allot of $$ on him and he should get a legitimate chance to play, if he can only stay healthy. As for Rask, this only should motivate him more. Now that he has had a taste of the NHL, look for him to work even harder down in the AHL and get more ice time playing North American hockey (which can only help him).

I see a possible scenario as follows: if Manny does not improve (healthwise and gamewise) then look for the Bs to suggest surgery on his cranky knee and put him on IR then bring Rask back up in a bigger role (share duties). I don't think a trade is realistic at this point. Anyone? Bueler?

lost in all this is the recent excellent play of Dennis Wideman. There are a lot of Wideman haters out there, but he played more minutes than Chara last night, and was a plus player again. If we stop pining over Brad Boyes (hard I know) and look at Wideman as a 600k dman, he will shine a little brighter.

Take a time out!! It's one game guys. I played goal for many years, Rask had a problem with 3 long shots that I could see, he had a good game for rookie but needs alot of work. Don't start kissing the cup yet!!!

you guys need to quit raining on the parade. The b's finally have something extremely positive and you guys drop your drawers and dump all over it. no one was ready to give them the cup. we are just excited to have a special young player. let's keep randy jones away from him.

Wideman is a #5 d-man. He will fall lower on the depth chart with the arrival of Lashoff and Hunwick, next season.

yeah, its just nice to see him play well early this year because he played so poorly after coming over late last year

Wideman is having a better season because he is part of a better system and the coach is using him correctly. I said before and I will say it again.. the Bs will do better this year if not for one reason only.. coaching. And yes, I don't expect a cup this year but it is nice to see some things starting to come together. Look at the season Kobasew is having. And I think Ferrance (when healthy) is better than Staurt was (defensively anyways).

you know, without Fernandez, Murray and Ward under contract that's over 12 million cap space. I understand what locker room value Murray and Ward have, but... that opens a lot of posibilities.

Everyone gave up on Gerber last season when he started slow, and he quietly had a steller record in the last half, and has played great while Ray Emery nursed an injured wrist. Do you think Ottawa would have won as many games in the first quarter if they didn't have Gerber? Giving up on Fernandez this early would be a mistake. What is the point of having cap space right now, when trades are not happening anyway? It takes a while, sometimes, for a goalie to adjust to a new team, lets see how (or if) he recovers from the injuries before we do anything rash. He will have more value at the deadline and in the summer then he does now anyway, and if Patrice missed the year, that is 5 million we can rent a player for at the deadline.

I have been a bruins fan for over 40 years, and I long for the days when the team can score more than two goals a game.!! We need a sparkplug some one that can bust open a game "WE NEED TO TRADE FOR SOME OFFENSE!!!!!

7:04 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

A major reason there are no trades is because there is no space to move players. I personally think the bruins are only a few key players away from being a playoff team, and contracts like Manny Fernandez's are an anchor around the team's neck.

10:07 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If a trade falls into place and the only thing holding the deal back is Mannys contract, then by all means waive him and send him down. But it does no good to insult a player by waiving him just to have cap space in case a deal comes by. It will hurt the way UFAs view the Bruins when it comes time to sign a contract.

I think we should wait until Fernandez is healthy before saying that the trade is a bust or evoque sceanrio where he will be " demote ". Like it or not, the B's will be stuck with him if he fail to deliver the goods. The only thing we can wish for is that Fernandez will be healthy and help the team to win. If not, the only logical conclusion ( in a scenario where Rask would play in Boston ) is that Thomas will be trade because of his friendly cap contract.

sorry to inform you latrappe, but this is tim thomas' team. hes going to carry this team as he has the past 2 seasons. he obviously cant play every game and thats the reason why he struggles at times because he plays 10 straigfht games without gettin a day off. fernandez was a terrible deal, just like every deal chiarelli has made since hes been here. also i disagree with your opinions on wideman as well. although i hate the trade, wideman is the 2nd best defenseman on this team. he provides much more to this team than alberts, ward, stuart, and allen combined. once ference comes back the top 4 should be chara, ference, alberts, and wideman. get rid of ward hes awful.

If Manny and Ward are not good enough to play on this B's team; there's no reason to believe that another GM will glady take those contracts and relieve us from the Cap hit.

In the case of Thomas, that's the only logical conclusion for next year. Thomas will be in the last year of his contract and unless Chiarelli decide to let Rask for a second full year in Providence, the B' will have to make a decision.

Then, if you're a GM, will you trade for Manny and his hefty contract or for Thomas? I doubt very much that JJ will allow Chiarelli to eat that 4.3contract...

if they were good enough to play on any other team then why havent they been traded? if they are so good why arent teams callin chiarelli for them?? were the only fools to take them on our team.

I second what "anonymous" says above. At one time this was a site where Bruins fans could come to get updates and discuss games. Not updating this site after every Bruins game is embarrassing. The B's are playing the best game i have seen them play in 3 years and yet there are zero recent posts to this board.

Who are the contributors to this site? You should make it where EVERY B'S fan can add his/her input to start a discussion.

I have to agree with the people before me. There are six of you and no one has updated this site in quite sometime. If you are not able to then release the reigns, this is the only site that has a decent following of people that comment on the postings. I wish I could say the same about the contributors. Over the summer I had asked if you needed help with the site and was refused. I realize that this was probably started as a small site but it has grown so the contributors either have to grow with it or pass it on.

It is pretty sorry when sidebar information is outdated by over 4 or 5 months.
