Hopefully less ice time for Ward

From today's Herald:

The weak point?” asked Chiarelli. “Well, I feel our goaltending and our coaching will help our defense. Granted, we don’t have a pure No. 2. People can argue we don’t have a pure No. 3 and No. 4, either, but Albie is going to be better because of the coaching. All the young guys will benefit. Lashoff is going to get a good chance to play on this team. Stuart, too. There are spots for young defensemen on this team. We’re going to look at them very closely in camp.”

Hopefully this means the Bruins will not rely on Aaron Ward to be there #2 defenseman, as they did the last 15-20 games on last season. Clearly he is a number 5 or 6 on this team, which lacks good defenseman. Even going by Chiarelli's quote -- he is saying that no defenseman on this team is good enough to be a number 2, 3, or 4. Ward may have experience and leadership but his on ice performances have been terrible the past two seasons. The less ice time he receives the better the Bruins may be. Handing over his ice time to players like Alberts, Stuart, and Lashoff may be risky, but the risk must be taken for the rewards could be much more beneficial than what Ward would contribute.

Trade Murray and ward to the Canucks for mattias ohlund and a 1st or 2nd round pick.... or just trade ward for a bucket of pucks

You hurt your team when you put players in positions not meant for them. Axelsson is not a first linger winger, he is a third line checker. Ward is not a #2 offensive, transition defenceman, he's a solid defensive defenceman. Hope Julien realizes that.

Do you have the balls to tell Ward to his face? Terrible last two seasons... he won the cup in carolina and logged to most ice time of all d men... wake up... get out of your moms basement and quit with the dungeons and dragons and get a real job.... i am sure Ward would love to discuss this with you coward.

Sorry I was being generous when I said the last two seasons. I should have said his whole career. He has been nothing more than a number 5 or 6 defenseman his entire career. One good playoff series and he is a number 2 defenseman in your mind anonymous? The reason Ward "logged the most ice time of the d men" was because they had no defense. Their defense consisted of the following: Kaberle, Wallin, an old Glen Wesley, Hedican, and Commodore. Just to inform you he did not play the most ice time out of those defensemen, go look up your stats. They used 5 forwards on their first powerplay unit and 4 forwards on their second. Aaron Ward wasn't even on their powerplay. They were stacked with decent forwards who could provide much more than Ward would on the powerplay. It doesn't matter if he had one good series he cannot be relied on to be a number 2 defenseman in this league. Lets keep Aaron Ward as the number 2 defenseman and see how far it gets the Bruins this season. Don't you think it means something when his own GM won't recognize him as being a number 2, 3 OR 4?

I like how someone named ANONYMOUS has the balls to call Pekese a coward!!

Pekese nailed it. Aaron Ward played on stacked teams when he won those cups. Where did he rank among his corps? Usually 5th or 6th. I dont think he got better along the way. He got older.

Sorry grammar police are you referring to missing one letter in one word? People who look for typos in discussion boards are people who;

A. Have no job.

B. Are angry at life.

C. Are tards, and are jealous when they realize someone did not also use "spell check" to type one sentence.

Go Bruins.

Ward at 2.75 for one more season or Mara at 3.3 for 2 more. I would choose Ward, besides no one in Bruins (except Dave Lewis) claimed Ward to be a #2, he just fell into that position by default. Hopefully Stuart or Lashoff have the kind of camps they are expected to have. If Metropolit shows he can be a quality injury reserve, then we perhaps have an NHL winger we can throw into a trade to aquire a #2, but as of now the job is Stuart or Lashoffs to lose.
