Conroy back to Flames

The Flames are bringing Craig Conroy back to Calgary. Today Conroy was acquired from the Los Angeles Kings for Jamie Lundmark, a fourth-round draft choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Conroy only has 5 goals and 11 assists on the season and is 35 years old. He makes 2.394 this season and next. The trade helps Calgary in the short run because they need a center. However, Calgary will lose in this trade in the long run. Next season they are stuck with an aging center who makes alot of money for a role player and on the decline . Lundmark,26, is a fourth line center/winger who is a RFA at the end of this season.

remeber Conroy was the center of the Flames top line when they went to the Cup. Conroy got burried in the mix of young tallent in LA, but he will be put on a line with Iglina right away and will continue were they left off on a hot streak. Conroy knows most if not all the guys on the Falmes so no time will need to adjust. Look for an impact right away. Now Calgary made this move because they need a center and they know how good Conroy is. They gave up their 2nd and 4th picks in this years draft and a 4th liner. The 2 picks are alot and the 4th liner is going to become a free agent (even though he is RFA) LA will let him walk. Good move on the Flames part, but good move for the Kings to continue getting good players through the draft.

I think the 2nd rounder made it a bad trade for the Flames for next season. It will definitely help them this year but next year I don't think Conroy will be that valuable to the team. We'll have to wait and see
