Leetch Return?

According to HockeyBuzz, Brian Leetch has been working out for the Bruins, and they may sign him for PP time and to help out the young defense.

Re: Leetch. I don't get this attitude that he's an over the hill guy who sucks. He was our best defenseman last year. I also don't get this pervasive notion that our defense was the problem last year. On the whole they did reasonably well (average--just look at the stats). The only thing I can think of is that some people mistook poor defensive play for the way the new rules handicapped the defensemen. Scoring was up league wide, not just in the Bruins D zone. Unfortunately, the one place scoring wasn't up was in the Bruins offsensive zone...

What the Bruins truly lacked last year is the same thing missing so far this year: they could not score enough points to win games in the new NHL. And that's the one area I was dissapointed in Leetch: he never did much for our PP.

So Leetch: sure I'd love to have him, in theory. On the cheap. But the problem as I see it is that he's used to being the main guy--a leader--and he'd have to play third or fourth fiddle on this team. Seems to me that could cause a lot of discord.

That--and what we really need is punch up front, not more D.
