Tight up against the cap

The Bruins are very tight up against the cap this season, especially with the recent signing of Stephane Yelle. I can see the Bruins making one or two minor moves before the start of the regular season. By minor moves, I mean trying to send a player through to the minors. If he clears then the Bruins are not responsible for the cap hit. However, if they are claimed by another team then they must split the remaining salary with the team that claims them. Two players who may have a chance to clear waivers and successfully be sent to the minors are Jeremy Reich and Peter Schaeffer. Another option may be having either Vladmir Sobotka or Petteri Nokelainen spend or start the season in Providence, since both players have two way deals.

Although Schaeffer has been a huge dissapointment, I still feel like he has something left to provide to this team. That is however, if he gets a chance to play, which I do not feel will happen this season unless there is an injury. He was often in Julien's doghouse last season, where he was limited to fourth line minutes. Reich on the other hand, is a gritty forward who has a solid defensive game but doesn't bring much else to the dish. He would probably make it through waivers and could come back up if they need a physical presence. Sobotka is a huge favorite of mine and I feel like he could really develop if he added some size to him. I think he has to be on this team, even if it is fourth line duty. I loved watching him play last season. Nokelainen could benefit if the Bruins were to start him in Providence this season. Give him first line minutes in Providence and see how well he reacts to the challenge. It would develop his overall game and he would probably be the first call up if there is an injury.

That being said, Reich (487,000) waived and sent to Providence, with Nokelainen (850,000) starting the season in Providence. With those moves it would give the Bruins some breathing room, putting them 1.817 million under the cap, which could be used for call-ups throughout the season and/or a move at the deadline.

Here is my starting lineup for the season

Sturm-Savard-Ryder
Lucic-Bergeron-Kessel
Sobotka-Krejci-Kobasew
Axelsson-Yelle-Schaeffer

Chara-Ward
Stuart-Wideman
Ference-Hnidy

extras: Thornton, Alberts

I would really like to see Sobotka play on the third line, but that is unlikely to happen since Julien does stress a defense first mentality, meaning Axelsson will play those minutes instead. Having Axelsson on the third line would help on Krejci's defensive game. Yelle makes a good addition to this team, giving them 3 solid faceoff men ( especially since Savard made huge improvements in his ability to win draws). Schaeffer will probably be a guy who is juggled all over the lineup.

Totally agree on Sobotka. He can handle the physical play down low on offense to maintain possession and keep it out of our end. Him and Lucic bring a physical presence needed in this "Claude Julien" system.

Just to add on the lines I really believe Kessel deserves to be on Savard's line once he can bury chances because with his talent and speed there were so many scoring chances last season. Also if healthy all season Sturm, Kobasew, and Bergeron has good chemistry together.

Bottom line Claude has some tough calls to make.

hey everyone! let's wait for "anonymous" to weigh-in with her comments! sooooo insightful!

here's an example:

"i don't agree with so-and-so. i won't provide any basis for my opinion, i will just cast stones and expose my own dicklessness. i also know more about hockey than anyone here. i can't prove it, but i will talk as if i know what i'm saying (and not barfing-up what i read in the herald or what eklund says). also, i refuse to sign my name because my boyfriend (i'm flaming gay) will find out and start porking my dad. i will also insist that crappy players are good, and then pretend i was being sarcastic once i realize that only mongoloids buy p.j. axelsson jerseys. boy, do i feel stupid with this smolinski jersey!"

Wheeler, Marchand could make this team too. Scheafer, Reich, Axellson are all not near as good as some of are young guns its time to give them a chance plus you could save 4 million bucks on the cap without those 3. Fallse Ontario

Would be a perfect fit here but who would we dump or trade to get this guy ( Ward, Scheafer, Axellson ) This would be enough but who would take all there guys. Fallse Ontario

Sobotka is a spare part. He plays hard, but there are certainly other players in Providence that could bring more to the table. Schaeffer will DEFINITLY get a chance to prove his worth, if only because of his contract. They'd much rather not leave dead money on the bench if he can show something. Also, you have him penciled in on the wrong side, and THORNTON IS DEFINITLY YOUR 4TH LINE RIGHT WINGER... why would you NOT have him in the lineup every night? Schaeffer-Krejci-Kobasew, Axelsson-Yelle-Thornton.

1- Management would have to find a way to rid themselves of their contracts

2- Wheeler and Marchand would have to have a HUGE camp to even crack the lineup

3- PJ Axelsson isn't as bad as everyone thinks he is. He just shouldn't be playing on a team's first or second line.

Anyone see the hockey news east predictions?

Bruins predicted to finish 10th in the east

thoughts?

We would have to see how much trade value Schaefer, Axelsson has and what kind of young prospects we could get and worst case put them on the waiver wire and save alot of money. I doubled check the money save and with those 3 off the books its closer to 5 million. Fallse Ontario

Wow, I leave town for a week and I miss all the action. Sure looks like you all have been having fun without me.

Aside from all the entertainment I have found here, there have been some interesting points about the Bruins and players.

I suppose we should do a better job of finding a checking line LW who skates against the top lines, that scores at least 25 goals a season, and still starts the PK. Not sure how the hell we'll fine one...but you all seem to have something better in mind.

While were at it, we should find a goalie that is more proficient at winning face-offs, and we should have a defensemen with a better glove hand.

Furthermore, it is absoulutely insane that our coach did not suit up for more shootouts, that Cam Neely didnt score 93 goals last season, and that Jeremy Jacobs had less than 100 assists.

Damnit PJ, your PK skills, your ability to shutdown top lines, your defensive end excellence and awareness, all WORTHLESS.
