Stuart Negotiations Start

According to the Globe, the Bruins are starting contract extension negotiations with defenseman Brad Stuart. He makes 2.8 million this season and could be looking for a 100% raise, which could be up to 5.6 million for 4 or 5 years. It remains to be seen if the Bruins would pay that much, but it is known a team would shell out that money, maybe more for Stuart. Don't forget, Stuart is fairly young at 27, entering his prime and will continue to get better. If I am PC, I am getting this deal done. I don't see any defenseman for middle class money, 4-6 million, entering their prime available. You either pay 6+ million for top talent or 4 or less for veteren talent. At 27 Stuart also has a lot of years of playing time and could be considered a vet by some.

The Bruins need Stuart. He has been a great player since coming to SJ, and if we lose him the JT deal was a waste. Stuart is a keystone to the defense. He has been the teams best overall defenseman. If I am the Bruins, 5 years/28 million is not a bad deal.
