Rumoured Bruins/Oilers Deal

From WBZ, the Herald and the Globe,

To BOS: Jason Smith and Marc-Andre Bergeron

To EDM: Brad Stuart and Marco Sturm

Matt's Take: At first, you say no. BUT, Marc-Andre Bergeron is an extremely great defenseman and Jason Smith is also a good defenseman. Yes Smith is 33, but is still good. He is also the Oilers captain. Smith provides great leadership and Bergeron, well you can't go wrong with 2! Sturm could be had back this offseason, he hasn't really done much here this season, so there isn't too much of a loss. Stuart, I think is gone, by his recent quotes and it doesn't seem like he wants to be here. This deal is very plausable. You win with great defense.

While M-AB does have some offensive upside, calling him "an extremely great defenseman" is the overstatement of the century. He is a huge defensive liability with a penchant for coughing up the puck at inopportune times ... the B's do this enough thank you very much. Now Jason Smith I would like to see in the Black & Gold, but I can't see the Oil trading their captain if they're expecting to make a push for playoffs/cup (which would be the only reason they trade for two UFA's). This rumor has way too many holes

Aaron, I agree that may have been an overstatement, but the deal is plausable. They get Brad Stuart, who is better than both Smith and M-AB and has almost the same ability as both, it's almost a 2 in 1. They get some offensive help in Sturm.

Mara and Sturm maybe. But if I was PC I would do everything in my power to re-sign Stuart! Granted the proposed trade would also free up some much needed cap space. And it would also allow Kessel to be moved on to a wing with Bergeron and Boyes.
I for one would rather see a deal that includes Mara, Sturm, York and a pick going to St. Louis for Brewer and Tkachuk.
I think Boston needs another power forward. First line with Kessel, Savard and Murray, and the second line with Tkachuk, Bergeron and Boyes. I think that would give us a great one two punch.
Just my opinion.

I have no problems with the 2 guys rumored to come I think they are both good defensemen but if were giving up Sturm, I think we need to get a forward back. The reasoning is we have good young defensemen coming up, who should be on the team next year (Lashoff and Mark Stuart). I wish the Bruins would make a deal for a forward or a goalie, not D.

I like that deal from bosbrn77. Very interesting twist and the numbers are good. You never know, thanks for the input.
