Interesting idea to project stats, but I think you're way too low for Kessell. I expect a HUGE year from this kid.

if the bruins have a good season then thats probably what the numbers will look like. MOST of them are within range of above average seasons for the team. i pissed my pants from laughin so much when i saw the projections from axelsson and wideman. sorrry dave lewis i dont think so.

I would look for Bochenski's #'s to be more goal heavy. He's a shooter and a goal scorer probably more like 25g 18a range.

Chara will get more points then that. Wideman probably less.

I was talking to a devout Devils fan today that said not to expect record setting point totals from our players based on Claude Julien's style. This is especially true for defensemen who were seldom encouraged to dip below the points under Julien. That being said, EVERYONE's +/- should immediately sky-rocket and we should win more games.

Not sure how much of this is Julien and how much is Lamoriello's stiff hand manifested through Julien. Julien has stated that he is going to try to build on a defensive foundation, so I don't doubt that this will carry over.

I'm all for 1-0, 2-1 games as long as we win most of them.

No way is Wideman getting 35 points. Mark Mowers isn't going to have 16 points. Kobasew is a wild card it depends who he plays with. If he plays 4th line numbers are lower. Bochenski could have 45+ points. Bergy didn't do much so 84 points is alot and you don't really know what your going to get from Murray it all depends on how many games he plays. For the record Manny will not have a GAA under 3, there's no way.

Wideman won't have 35 points and will be in the minus. Sturm is too high considering that he's a streaky player. I agree with Bergeron amount of points since he was hurt last season for the most part. I'm not afraid to raise the bar at 90 points for an healthy bergeron.

Bochenski will be the biggest surprise of those projections. He is going to be a nice breakout talent this year and is going to put up great scoring numbers - At least 25 goals this year

A little high for sturm and wideman... and low in the Goals dept. for bochenski and kessel

No way Kessel gets more than 10 goals and 20 points!!!

Are ya serious?! Thats the most obsurd thing I have ever heard jimbuff. As a rookie, he had 11 and 18 for 29 pts. And he did that while missing 12 games due to CANCER!

Now a second year guy and completely healthy, he's going to put up at least 40 pts, AT LEAST.

Yeah, jimbuff. Nevermind that he missed 12 games, but he also WAS RECOVERING FROM CANCER. There was a pronounced difference in Kessel's play in the latter half of the season and it was very much clear that he was getting increasingly comfortable in the NHL.

I don't think that 39 points is AT ALL out of Kessel's range. He may only see 3rd line linemates, but he will be used extensively on the PP, and he will buy himself at least 5 goals all by himself due to his talent for end-to-end rushes.

I think that overall, the point totals make sense. I don't like to make projections on this stuff because it is wildly speculative, but none of these numbers scream at me as overly inflated or conservative.

Good post, Matt.

PJ Axelsson is maybe the greatest hockey player ever.

The only ship the Rangers will be sailing will feature a visit with puff the dragon.

Montreal is full of....

Toronto is a tandoori chicken pounding carnival...

focker out.

Phil Kessel wont score more than 10 and 20? Did you watch the latter part of the season? Do you know your name....

Need more offense. This has goals for at 3.08 and goals against averaging at 3.03 (I understand this doesn't take into consideration amount of games played) Look for Schaefer, Bochenski, Kessel and Kobasew to have better offensive numbers. I don't Wideman with that many points either.

This team has far more potential going into this season than last. The key is whether Julien can play them to their strengths, which I believe he can.
I think it may take a bit of time but once this team jells I think they could have a decent season. Not a contender, but certainly better than last year.

That was a nice bit of calculation by Mr. Anonymous up there. The GFA vs. GAA bit may be more telling than we realize. A very attentive Devils fan says that we will be ready to kill ourselves midseason with all of the one goal games that Julien coaches us to. Now, I think we are far better prepared for this season than we were last season, and Julien is a good coach, so we can expect to come out on top of more than not.

One thing that worries me is that our only wins last year were one goal games... all the big differential games, we got crushed. I hope that Manny and another defensive type forward, and another year of experience for our young defense will help in that regard. I feel a little better about our offense, too, so that should help.

In all majors sports, defense is the difference. It's tough to evulate the whole defensive performance because the "Lewis" factor was at play. One thing for sure, the B's will be more creative in the offensive zone and it will generate some goals. By relieving pressure from the D-man, things will settle down. Chara will be allow to play his game and Alberts have one year of experience. Manny will have a huge say on which kind of season the B's will have. Your best PK killer is your keeper. Let's face it: Thomas was mediocre, at the very best, last season in that regard.

ok, recently I stated that you need to stick with the team through thick and thin. HOWEVER, I just read a rumor that Vancouver has inquired about Patrice Bergeron and that "Boston may be talking to Vancouver about either Mitchel or Ohlund for Partrice Bergeron." If this happens I will most likely jump ship. There is no reason to sell someone with such promise (see: Joe Thornton) just because you want a little help on defense. The ownsership is terrible and the front office is the laughing stock of the league and New England. This is outragous and if it goes through my fanatical services may be transfered to Hartford in hopes of the Whalers returning to greatness.

I would never jump to the Rangers or the Habs for that matter. In actuality, I won't jump ship. I'll just hate life watching hockey...here's to another year of suckdom (if patrice goes)

If the latest rumour of Bergeron for Mitchell or Ohlund come true....that's it !! If P.C. trades Bergeron it will be the second coming of Thornton ! Bergeron is one of the best up and comers in the NHL !!

I swear to Christ, if they trade Bergeron, it will only show how damn stupid and impatient this team is. Hey! Lets get some great young talent, stick with them through the tough years when we can watch them do some really amazing stuff, but not yet actually know how to be a real winner at the NHL level. Then, since everyone knows that an NHL player's prime is anywhere from about 27-32 years old, lets go ahead an trade them when they hit between 22-26. That way we can be absolutely certain that we never see the best years of ANYONE that has any talent.

Bergeron is the kind of guy that you can build a team around. You don't try to fit Bergeron into your scheme, you plan a scheme in which his game is featured. He has consistantly played with heart and impressive talent, even as his team was sold right out from under him. If we are building an new identity for this franchise, his face better damn well be at the fore.

I'd rather see Savard leave than Bergy. (but don't go getting any ideas)
