Forsberg to Nashville?

According to Allan Muir, SI.com: Peter Forsberg could be headed south... to Nashville. Nashville could be very dangerous if this deal is done, and their PP even more dangerous. Philly will be looking for younger players, because lets face it their not making the playoffs this year. Forsberg is scheduled to make 5.75 in the last year of his contract, he will not resign with a team that has no chance of winning a cup. Nashville has over 6 mill in cap space. This trade is very possible. More than likely look for the Flyers to try to get Alexander Radulov (in the AHL this season stats 4 games 3goals 5 assists) and/or Scottie Upshall among others.

A question here: Do a team can ask to have the right to talk to the player to be trade and sign him on a new contract or they have to wait until January 1 to start the talk?

If the player is currently on your roster you can re-sign them at anytime. For a player not on your roster you can't talk to them about resigning if you recive them in a trade, sometimes they are granted special permission form the NHL, if they are they only have 24 hours, to do so.

Do you think it would be too much of a risk for Nashville if they cannot conclude a long term deal? It would be a costly move to give good young players to end up empty handed...

I think if they get Forsberg it puts them right up their with the Ducks in the West. This would be one of those huge moves much like you see in baseball at the trade deadline. It is a risk, but at the same time your going for the cup and it could end up like Roloson last year. Get dealt for the playoffs and then liking the team and city and re-signing, thier
