My take on Bergeron hit

I was at the game, and boy was that one of the most vicious hits I have ever seen. I saw Bergeron skate down in the corner, and I looked away as the puck went around. I heard a huge check and then the hand go up of the referee. My initial thought was a clear boarding, and Bergeron would get up all pissed. I then saw Kobasew and Chara try to absolutely destroy Jones. Had the refs not broke it up Jones would have gotten his ass kicked.

I couldn't really see Bergeron from where I was. I was in a box to the upper left of the Flyers goal, so the low boards blocked my view. The freakish thing was seeing everyone, including Flyers guys and refs waving the medical team over. I thought Bergy may have gotten the wind knocked out of him or something, because it wasn't a huge Stevensesque hit. About 7 or so medical guys ran out on the ice, the stretcher came out.

I have never seen the Garden so quiet before. The place just went silent. It was one of the most eerie moments I have been through. A Philly Sucks chant broke out for about 10 seconds before we saw the stretcher come out. Bergeron did not move at all, and all I could think of was I hope he is not paralyzed. Seeing Kevin Everett this season already. I saw the replay about 10 times on NESN during the game, and I saw Bergy's face was up and then as he got hit, it went down, but it was not so the top of his head hit the wall, for of his face/forehead. Had his head been lower, I don't want to imagine what could have happened. Patrice's parents were also in attendence. I can't imagine what they were going through.

I walked around the North End after the game, and I had my Bruins jersey on. It was amazing to see how many people knew about the hit. Atleast 10 people asked me what happened and if he was alright.

Bergeron ended up with a concussion, and a broken nose. Fairly minor injuries considering what could have happened. Hopefully Bergy will recover quickly and be able to come back in a few weeks.

On to the actual hit. It was dirty, no doubt about it. Randy Jones gave an apology speech and all. People are saying it was not intentional. I agree, he was not going out to injure Bergeron, but at the same time, if a guy is in a vulnerable posistion and you level him into the boards, you have to know he could and likely will be injured. Anyone who does not think this was a dirty hit is probably a Flyers fan. You can also tell Jones looks away as he hits Bergeron, which shows he knew something would happen and did not want to watch it.

This is the 3rd Flyer in a month to do something like this. The hit on McAmmond, the cross-check to the face, and now the hit from behind. The other two got 20-25 game suspensions. I would say 30 games or more for this one. Not only because it was a dirty hit, but the fact this is the 3rd Flyer in a month. The league needs to send a message, especially on hits from behind. I would have said the season had Bergeron been more seriously injured. I am not calling the Flyers team dirty, but there is no coincidence that the players doing these cheap shots are Flyers. It is one thing to be physical, but another to maliciously injure players.

I think everyone right now is just glad Patrice is okay and can continue to play hockey.

the fact that it is the third such vicious attack coming from a flyer player means to me that it is a problem with the coaching staff. 1 is so so, 2 is crossing the line, after three the team owner should get involved and tell his team to smarten the fuck up.

A player should always control his stick and his body, as well. Good guy or not, the hit was cheap and the league have to send a message to the players and the Flyers organisation. Clearly, there's someone, in Philly, who doesn't seems to get it. Maybe an hefty fine could make the Flyers think more about their "new philosophy ". An unexcusable hit.

If a player injury's another player then such player should pay a fine a to the injured player equal to the salary per game of the injured player for the about of games he miss due to the injury. for exsample Burgeron make $5,000,000.00 a that would be just over 60,000 a game, If Patrice Bergeron misses 10 games then Randy Jones will have to pay Bergeron $60,000. It will make players think before hitting someone dirty. If I had my way Randy Jones first have his fingernails and toenails pulled one by one, then 30 lashes with a bull whip, rub salt in the wounds. then cut him open like a fish and rip out his guts and beat them with a hammer. then tear off his arms and legs. and Finally cut off his head with a dull knife

hitting in hockey is one thing.but hitting from behind is another.

people like you give the sporting fans a bad name, obvious flyer fan...

illegal hits that cause serious injuries should be penalized for the exact amount of games that the player injured misses. only way to make it fair if they wanna play dirty.

ok anonymous im going to suggest you go to a psychiatrist because you obviously have some issues...it was a dirty hit i wont disagree...but disembowling a man over it isnt worth it...simply beating the shit out of him would be punishment enough

ya, who was that guy? The sentences didnt make sense, tons of words were spelled wrong (including Bergeron), and the sick stuff about ripping the guy apart. See a doctor dude.

The fine should be simple - Jones should be out as long as Bergeron is out. Philly coach says clean hit - because what else is he going to say? Jones knew that Bergeron could not see him coming, he slightly lifted himself off the ice, and the arm planted behind the neck as wanting to ram Bergeron's head into the boards. And we're supposed to say that's hockey? No. He could have easily braked and given him a hard body check into the boards. I don't care about Jones at this point. If given the chance, the Bruins would have packed up and left the game. And now they need to regroup because Bergeron will not be back for a long time. Even a month is too short. And on top of that, if he comes abck as the same player? But none of that matters to me, as long as he is okay, hockey comes second.

I know that Jones apologized, but that doesn't take away from the seriousness of the hit and resulting injury. The Flyers have a history of questionable tactics, going way back to the days of the Broad St Bullies. While hard hitting and injuries are part of the game, this was over the top. Thankfully Bergy is not too badly hurt, and will be back sooner rather than later. A lengthy suspension is in order (15-20 games?)

Jim---you are obviously a Philly fan / native....go back there!!

The guy with the dull knife....you need more help than Jim!! (Jim, you stay...dull knife, you should go away!!)

Steve from Montreal here. I am not a habs fan. On the hit, man I though Bergeron was dead, feet or hands not moving, and it was taking a very long time to get him on the board. But now i am very pissed at the Media here english (TSN) and french (RDS). Both are saying " I do not think that Jones will get suspended , as he is not that type of player , and that Bergeron should not turned his back on a play". BULLSHIT , none of these guys saw the whole play. Bergeron never turned his back on the play, as he had clearly beaten the two D men, plus Bergeron is not that type of player, unlike some players who want a cheap powerplay so they turn at the last minute.THIS IS NOT THE SAME THING. I am so sick of the excuse " he not that type of player" , I am sure he wasn't , but now he is. Just like the people that go on a kill crazy rampage, " oh i never thought he was that kind of person" . I have a bad feeling that Jones will get sweet F.A. . Once again , if its not a fourth line player, you can do anything you want.

PISSED !!!!

i am confused too Bergy couldn't have turned his back to the play because his back was to the play the whole time, and even if Bergy had a little stop sign on his jersey, Jones never would have seen it because his forearm was right over that spot. I have lost some respect for Bob Mackenzie, and I've got nothing left for Nick Kypreos. He took 3 strides after Bergy's back was turned, placed his forearms on Bergys back and drove him headfirst into the dashers and skated away in the opposite direction that Bergy sent the puck!! Please explain how this was a hockey play

Kypreos the sportsnet analyst (due to my bad grammer it sounds like I said Kypreos hit Bergeron, I am well aware it was Randy Jones!)

Anyone who justifies this hit, or condones hitting up high from behind is either a Flyers fan, retarded or both.

I am leaning towards "Jim" being both.

Kypreos, McKenzie and Glen Healy are the most canuck biased idiots to grace sports broadcast.

Well Jones only got 2 games . THis is unreal. I just called in to PJ Stocks talk show and He along with most Media types all say that its Bergeron fault for turning his back on the play.
I am at a loss here, I guess it just me.
