Bruins attendance is embarassing

This season the Bruins have only sold out one game ( the home opener vs the Flames). They have had only 3 games all season where there were more than 16,000 people at the Garden. The past 5 games, the attendance has been awful, especially the last game where only 10,965 people attended. Their season average has been 13,787, about 4,000 less than what the Garden can actually fit. This is an embarassing figure but is common with many teams located in the United States. It seems as if the "new NHL" isn't so great after all in regards to getting more people interested in hockey.

JJ is trying since two years but there was years of misery where the organisation, read JJ , refuse to invest to really build a contender. Right now the B's are a good show but they have to compete with the Red Sox and the Pats...

Beat me to it Joe, I was going to post about the same thing. It sad when you watch the game on TV and there is 100s of empty seats in view, it's embarassing. This isn't Phoenix where hockey isn't a prime sport. Boston is a hockey town. In Montreal, I hate to admit it, but I never feel the Habs are out of a game because their fans, all 20,000 of them, get behind the team. When they are down by 3, they come back because of the support. The Bruins need that from their fans and the fans need to come and support the team.

Well said, Matt. However, after years of incompetency by the Bruins brass, just like anyone who has lost the trust of their friends, parents and peers, they have to earn it back. They shot themselves in the foot at the top, and now they're paying the price. Maybe it's time to dig deep to earn that trust back?

There's a good column on that subject in the Herald today. I think Chiarelli says it all when he said that the team will have to deliver to regain the fans's confidence. The team is good right now but like many fans said: You cannot compensate for years of mismanagement with a couple of win. I guess JJ is paying for all those years he made the fans pay...

The lack of attendence is embarrasing. But we don't see the same team Jacobs does. He sees this team:

The B's are the 6th most valuable franchise in the NHL. Win a cup? He doesn't need to.

But maybe the low attendence will change that. If so, it could be a good sign. Every empty seat could be saying, "you need to win a cup to keep from losing value." So I say, let's have more empty seats!

Another embarrassment: why does it sometimes take over a day for comments to appear on this site? I updated the link that got clipped yesterday! Yet I still don't see it.
