Axelsson Rumor

From TFP,

The Boston Bruins appear to be open to parting with winger P.J. Axelsson and the Senators could be a viable option, reports the Ottawa Sun.

The Sun claims the Senators had discussions with Boston about the possibility in the off-season and it's believed the Bruins would be interested in youngster Antoine Vermette.

Axelsson, 31, has notched just one goal in seven games with the Bruins so far this season.

Alfredsson and Axelsson are from the same hometown (Goteborg) and helped Team Sweden win gold at the Olympics in Turin last February.

Matt's Take: Another BS rumor. Axelsson is fairly cheap, and is a valuable checking line winger and penalty killer.

Vermette is a good player. Hes younger(24) and quicker. I would love to see it go down. Vermette had 6 shorthanded goals last year. PJ's most 2. I think it's what we need, new younger faster players. Even though I love PJ I think it is time to start from scratch.

Maybe these rumors are started by the people that want the platers and not the ones that have them.

The Fourth Period is a good site for hockey info. So how do people start them themselves? Ottawa has been interested in PJ Axelsson for a long time now.

I think PJ is the most professional player the B's have. He's incredibly consistent at doing all those little things that get his not-so-flashy but still very important job done. It will be a sad day for me when he's no longer a Bruin. A very sad day--and one the Bruins will be very much poorer for.

You don't compensate defensive laps by adding offense. Axelsson is an important piece defensively. He's going no where...
