He had 1 bad year. He had his best years under Julien in the AHL. He would have inside info on how to attack the habs weaknesses. I know we won 3 in the playoffs but wht what if we splitt the reg season... would have finished ahead of those bastards. Good signing.. probably would have only given him 3.5 million

Hossa isn't coming to Boston... Chia already said in so many words that Hossa has no interest in Boston. Who gives a shit anyways.. the team to get him is going to overpay and never be able to trade him when he proves to be a bust of get a wanky ankle like Zhamnov. Too risky for the Bruins to hancuff themselves IMO.

I think this is a real solid move. Ryder has a long history with Julien dating back to his QMJ days. IMO if Julien trusts him, so do I. This make a lot of sense and $4m for a 30 goal scorer should be.

If Hossa is looking for $7-8m; that would be tough and possibly hamstring the franchise. When you look at it along with the other $ on the books, it still leaves some flexibility with other possible move. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him in Boston.

Ha, told you Hossa would not sign here.

That doesn't mean be disappointed. Ryder is a good player. Love seeing him in a b.

I waited all day for that! Money for Hossa now gone. Maybe make a play for short one year deal on Bertuzzi, see if the BIG 'B' on his chest can bring his game up a notch or two.

anonymous, you really are a jackass. Chiarelli is rebuilding this club. I was hoping like most of you that Hossa was coming here, however, at 7 or 8+ years with at least 8 million, IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

Dump Chiarelli? You're a complete moron. Look what he did in 1 year, hired the right coach for this team. And with major injuries made the playoffs and developed some great young talent. As much as I hated Ryder as a Canadien, he'll help this team.

ok now that all the boo birds are out just wait and see when ryder pops a few hat tricks next year against them habs...all you will be back on the bandwagon...youre just hating cuz he was off last season cuz carb is a terrible coach..anyway good signing now what about trading a 1st, lashoff and a forward in the farm to florida for bouwmeester? that would solidify this team

10:40 PM

LOL you guys are blaming this on chia.

HOSSA DOES NOT WANT TO BE HERE!!!! Damn. Wasn't this told to us at the deadline???

Chia made a good signing.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wait to Hossa gets a huge deal, and sucks. You wait. I am not saying he will suck, and that I didnt want him. But if he is going to get a deal like 10 years 90 million, it is not worth it.

10:42 PM
Blogger Jefe77 said...

You all are a piece of work. Of course Hossa would have been better, but PC made a move that got us some more scoring depth.

Why do I get the feeling that you all would only be happy if we signed Hossa...get over it.

They tried, and he wanted somewhere else.

11.3 per? That would be great if we had no intention of signing Lucic to a deal, and resigning Bergie, Savvy and Chara.

Calm down, wake up, and stop bitching.

We are going to be good next year.

10:44 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love the direction the team is headed in. Chiarelli was dealt a pretty rough hand when he got to Boston, 2 years later, with the right coach in place, the team is actually playing well and on the upswing. anyone who can't see that is retarded.

Plus, 7+ for a good player is crazy. He's topped the 100pt mark 1 time in a 10 year career and 90pts 1 other time. That's not worth $7-8m against roughly a $57m cap.

10:47 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Solid deal...Screw Hossa. I like the Bertuzzi angle mentioned above as well....could get him cheap and may be solid power play guy in front which is something lacking. UFA come to a team for the most part because they WANT to be there, a guy like Ryder is not a money hungry punk like a Hossa would be. He'll play his ass off for Julien and, as long as he stays healthy, will have a solid 30-35 goal year.

10:49 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

this is good for the bruins he will take muzz's place on the first line with savvy. he will score more then 25 goals, last year was a year he wants to forget about. he was playing for a team that did not want him there.just put your big body in the slot and savvy we set you up all night. just like we all remember big joe and muzz when he could play.

the cost was a little to much but all UFA's are over priced that's just the way it is.

After reading Charelli's blog they are waiting on a offer they made to Hossa

10:55 PM

Look you over pay for Hossa a possible 100 point guy, not Ryder 31pts -4 in 07/08. Sorry chia this a MOC move; as bad as the zhamnov signing. Like MOC you will be a scout for the Manchester Monarchs next year!!!!!!!!

Ryder needed a fresh start. He became an after thought in Montreal which really got to his head the second half of the season. He was never given a chance to turn things around with his game. Taken off the PP was a hit to his ego. Playing along side Savard and under Julien should help him produce the 30+ goals we know he can get. The $$$$ is just an after thought when it comes to overpaying UFA's.

11:17 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

With players like Finger getting 4 million and Sundin offered 10 by the Canucks, Ryder may be a good deal at 4 million. He still has to produce consistantly though to make it worth while.

I dont like it, he's a floater.

11:17 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

As much as I hate to admit it, this Ryder deal is a good one for the Bruins. He may not be a Hossa, but he's not going to take up a lot of cap space. In terms of goals/dollar paid, he is going to be a better deal than Hossa.

I really think that Ryder and Savard will work good together if they are placed on the same line. Regardless, he should be a good fit. Good call Pete, as much as I hate to admit it, good call.

This is a shitty deal way overpaid for another fucking glen murry Ryders terrible and i dont want him in boston hes crap. Fuck PC and Fuck Ryder

11:34 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like the "way overpaid" comment on Ryder. Yet any Bruin fan who feels this way is willing to spend 1/5 of our cap on Hossa... hmmm, 100 points for 9 mil/year or 60 points for 4 mil/year... I'll take the latter Bob.

Good call Chia, maybe not what everyone was looking for but hey, now we don't have to buy out Muzz, Manny, and half of our team for one player who will likely lose his touch in a year or two. He's european for shits sake.

who will the beuins sign next?

12:12 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Penguins, Habs and Oilers are believed to be the front runners for Hossa, with the Canucks not too far behind. The Rangers were in the mix, but as of now aren't close. Pens offer is 5-years at just over $7M/yr, Oilers is supposedly worth close to $9M (length not yet known) and Habs are closer to $8M.

9 Million are you kidding me, for a soft winger. Honestly, that is crazy. He's good, not that good.

Vincent Lecavalier - $7.16 million

Pavel Datsyuk makes $6.7 million

Joe Thornton makes $6.67 million

Marian Gaborik makes $6.5 million

all 4 of these guys are better then Hossa

They need to get Wideman signed, and hopefully Lashoff or Hunwick are ready to push for regular action.

Bertuzzi would be an interesting signing, as long as he can find his balls. If he can ever find them again, he'd be a great pick-up.

12:22 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think Ryder will help the team out offensively. I would like to see the Bruins sign one more player. All we have for good proven forwards are Bergeron, Savard, Ryder, Sturm, and maybe Kessel. Our young players although they played well in the playoffs they are still unproven. Get rid of Murray and Fernandez (bad trade by PC) so we can free up some cap space. Signing Hainsey would be nice but PC said he was done with the free agency.

As bad as the Zhamnov signing?!?!?

D's do you watch the NHL?

Some of you got me thinking your a bunch of shallow hockey fans. Check yourselves, what do you REALLY know? Hossa was worth what we would have sacrificed our future for?

Sorry numbnuts, niddle nits, and nob noggins, this is a signing that is going to improve our team, and give us the breathing room to afford what we are harvesting.

Guess what you fuckin' retards,...(yeah Im insulted by some of your lack of intelligence)...Glen Murray and Ryder will score more goals than Hossa, and cost less. Wow. What a concept.

Someone posted "I hope Wideman signs", are some of you paying attention to anything thats going on? Or do you understand whats going on? Or are you just another frontrunning wannabe hockey/Bruins fan? I think you are.

Go enjoy the Pats, the Celts and Sox, and leave the Bruins for the Bruins fans.

Like I said before a Claude type of winger, nothin fancy, uses the body, two way player for 3 mil instead of 8!

Sturm Bergeron Kobasew
Lucic Savard TBA (Not Hossa)
Kessel Krecji Ryder
Axy Nokie Thornton

My bad Ryder with lucic and savard and Schaefer on 3rd line.

guys it economically makes sense and looks good on paper. Will see how they play.

Now its bye bye Metro, Murray, and Manny hopefully!

Hey Jefe77, like I wrote, before Bertuzzi lost his balls; was he not one of if not the best power forward in the league prior to the Steve More event?

I do agree with you 100% with the "this is a signing that is going to improve our team, and give us the breathing room to afford what we are harvesting."

But kid, give up the misplaced anger, and the name-calling, just makes you look petty and immature.

This is not a bad deal at all. Ryder will thrive as a Bruin. He has proved in previous years that he is a goal scorer. And the Bruins need that!

The Canadiens did want him. They asked him to play defensively and be a two way player last year. That's why he did so poorly. They didn't draft him, so he didn't fit into their grand plan.

Julien knows how to coach him and I know he'll get 30++ next year.

8:39 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope we can at lest recoup some cash be getting rid of Manny Fernandez. I know it will be hard to move him, and Murrary for that fact. But, If we had to get rid of one, how can we dump Manny? Hopefully soon!

9:05 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ok, a little analysis.
-Ryder works very well with Julien, has worked with and developed a good relationship over the past 10 years. 10 years of a coach knowing a player and making that player productive means that they should be able to get right back to that.

-Ryder is 29. He is just as old as Hossa, and there is a good chance that he can return to 30+ goals a year, in his prime.

-Ryder and Wheeler in one day, that is a good day for most teams; lest you are just starting rebuilding like Blackhawks and Lightning.

I don't mind this deal, however disappointed I may be that we didn't get Hossa. This makes more sense than overpaying Hossa, however we overpaid another guy to avoid the first situation. In my opinion, Ryder is worth more like 3 mil, but he will help to fill a need we have. We will see how this plays out however we have some pretty strong lines with this deal.

Savard, Bergeron, Ryder, Sturm, Kobesew, Kessel..isn't looking too bad

B's still NEED to cut ties with Murray, he's just dead weight at this point

10:01 AM

Murray will be traded later on in the Summer for draft picks to a team in need of hitting the salary cap floor. There is no need to rush out and dump salary just yet.

Gee I'm sorry about the "misplaced anger" and name calling! Didnt mean to offend any one here and the incredible insight they contribute when they call PC a "Bald Headed Jerk" "Cump Chiarelli" hes a "moron", and someone who has "Fucked up" the Bruins.

Sorry! I should praise those comments, and pucker up good. And for the record, Bertuzzi's balls are somewhere lost in Vancouver, never to be found again.

Anger huh? Uhhh, you know what? If you say something stupid, just like if your breath smells, I will tell you. Especially on a Bruins discussion board. And just like other Bruins fans here, I will call those comments stupid and retarded. Because they are.

Bertuzzi's balls. I think he let them on Steve Moore's back. If Steve wouldn't mind giving them back, Bertuzzi may want them again.

Anonymous, so sorry you have taken my comments personally, and mistook a play on your suggestion of a Bertuzzi signing being interesting.

Its amazing that after all that was said about PC, after all those who trashed the GM who has turned this franchise around, you have focused on attempting to "correct" me.

I will make sure to not offend you in the future, for fear of your wrath, your incredible insight, and defense of those who trash PC.
