Quick Thought

From my impressions, I have been encouraged to see the way the Bruins have played thus far on the West Coast swing. Besides a few bad moments in the first game, the B's played excellent top to bottom against the Coyotes and admirably against the Ducks.

They may be 1-2 on the young season so far but there are many encouraging signs thus far.

1. Lucic has been a great asset to the team. He plays with a physicality and determination that can motivate others. Right now, he deserves to stay beyond 9 games.

2. Maybe all Tim Thomas needed was a fire under his rear end. Having Fernandez in town might have given Timmy that extra boost. He has looked excellent in the two games he's started (1-1, 1.51 GAA, .955 sv%) .

3. What a welcome surprise Chuck Kobasew has been so far (2G, +1).

4. Three positives and one negative. Think Chiarelli is sweating a little bit with every goal Fernandez lets up and every minute he spends on the bench? Chiarelli is going to have to start answering to someone if this acquisition fails.

Give it some time though folks, the season is still young and there is plenty of hockey to be played before jumping to conclusions.

couldnt agree more. Lucic brings some much needed balls to this team, Thomas looks like he deserves to start, and its great to see Chuck score twice. But the offence needs to gel and Fernandez has to wake up and shake the rust off. There are plenty of teams out there that are willing to take a chance on goalie if he doesnt work out here.

is it me or does the coaching style and strategies look very similar to those of dave lewis?? similar tendencies as well when it comes to putting players in the doghouse very easy in the season.

I watched the Ducks game and it was not pretty, "admirably" is very generous. The Bruins seemed to be afraid of getting hit for the last 2 periods when the Ducks started ramming the fore check down our throats. Where they need to show balls is standing up to big, tough teams like the Ducks, the announcers loved flashing up the hit totals last night that were severly lopsided in favor of the Ducks (Ducks area coverage obviously), I mean come on when 2 useless pukebags like Corey Perry and Rob Niedermayer are delivering better hits than any of our guys that is SAD! What was hard to watch was our guys getting pounded and our new tough guy, and ex-Duck, not rough up anyone, I'm not saying he had to drop the gloves but at least lay a big hit on someone, but he and Lucic got a whopping six minutes of ice time. Pretty hard to respond and spark the team from the bench! The potential is there but there seems to be still some Lewis-itis in the direction of the play.

Gimme a break with the Fernandez issue. The guy have played 1 game in 8 months. It's far fetched to say that Chiarelli is sweating because he had a so-so game. Fernandez fundamentals are excellent so i don't see why that, suddenly , this guy would become a bozo " à la Tim Thomas "... When a keeper have basics and technics, he have all the tools to get out of a funk/bad game..

Let's bench Fernandez and win that game.
Or even better - trade him for a bag of pucks !

Or replace Murray with Lucic on the first line to see how well he combines the physical aspect he has with scoring skill he showed in Junior and in the Summit Series.

After attending last nights game in LA, I can honestly say;

1. Tim Thomas is our starter.
2. Phil is the future of the Bruins
3. Milan Lucic is flat out fun to watch. He fought Ivanans, checked the Kings to the ground, and scored the game winner. What a Bruin.

Go Bruins!!!

LA game was fun to watch, Lucic finally played on a good line as noted above (the young line) and that line was the top line performance wise and that is not a knock on Bergeron's line as all came to play. Fernandez looked awkward (maybe his knee isn't healed properly or his rehab isn't done?????). On a bad note Alberts was awful in his own end, he looked like he was unsure of what to do.
The SJ game - I only saw the last period - was a decent game of a back-to-back set. Shots were way down from the night before, but they never quit trying as they immediatly pushed down the ice to respond to SJ tying it up, and got a nice goal.

After watching the West Coast trip the Bruins look good with only 2 bad games and only a couple of areas to figure out how to fix themselves up for the home opener.

It would be a disaster if they sent Lucic back to Junior!

Boston could be 4-1 on this trip with an ugly loss in anaheim

so happy to finally see pj where he belongs, pk and 4th line duties.

pj belongs in the ahl, he looks alot slower and out of place this season.

I hate to see him go, but what you will see by month's end is PJ is going to be traded. Lucic will essentially replace PJ's role as the checker, only with more size and grit. His salary should clear enough room to sign Markov for $2.5MM.

Trading PJ to land Markov? For what purpose. Do you really think that 1 single player will turn this blueline around? The B's have a cheaper and better option in Lashoff.

One can argue that the blue line without big Z seems lost. If anything in landing Markov just to start a fire under some other DMen. Personally I don't like it, but I see it happening.

Markov is a solid physical d-man who makes forwards think about where he is on the ice rather than getting fed the boards. That being said he is asking too steep of a price when we have young D that could help if they would grasp their role better like Alberts and Lashoff. If they can't maybe Markov would help but he can't fix defense issues alone.
