Bruins Claim Macdonald

The Bruins claimed Joey Macdonald off waivers from the Red Wings. Macdonald, 27, is 1-5-1 on the season with a 3.46 goals-against average and .872 save percentage. Questionable move by Chiarelli since he does not really fit anywhere on this team or the Providence Bruins. He is also 27 years old and has not succeeded in his short career thus far. This season he has been Detroit's 3rd goalie all season. Last season in the AHL, he posted average numbers, 17-9-2 with a 3.13 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage.

I have to question this move... big time! We already have enough backup goalies to start our own store! Suave, Finley, Toivonen, and now McDonald!
Yes, the Bruins need goaltending.... but I think the fans were thinking more on the lines of Biron, Bryzgalov, Giguere, or Theodore!
But one thing I have to mention pekese, Thomas would have been the number three goalie in Detroit this year behind Hasek and Osgood. Let's just hope this is a deal to make a deal. Teams should stock up on defense... not goalies!!

Agreed. Hasek is unbelievable. He's been playing at such a high level for so long, despite his age.

The fact that they are so stocked with goalies plus the facts that he's joining the Boston roster and Toivonen hasn't played any of the back to bcak games would lead me to believe Hannu is a gone very soon.

Yeah, it is kind of a shock to see him join the roster right away. Maybe Toivonen gets sent down to play some games and regain some confidence. Then recall him for the last 10 games or so? Not quite sure were Chiarelli is going with this one, but I hope Hannu isn't next out the door. He's too young and his future could be bright.

But if that is the case bomberdrz, then why not just bring up Finley or Suave? Why bring another goalie in? And if they send Hannu anywhere, it will probably be a package deal.
Murray and Toivonen to the Ducks for Bryzgalov and a pick? I hope not!!!

i have a suggestion. this is a cap move. somebody look up his cap hit vs hannu's i bet he is cheaper and the bruins need to save every penny...this is also why murray has been put on injured reserve...why are they suddenly saving every penny? because they have gone over the cap with the signing of sturms new deal.

Sturms deal doens't count until next season. I smell a possible move of Toivonen. Showcased tonight? Sucked.

I like what Chiarelli has done with the Bruins this season so I'm sure there is some logic behind this move. Remember, the Cap is going up next year so look for the B's to sign Biron and have Thomas as the back-up. Rask will be ready by the '08-09 season to take Thomas' spot as back-up to Biron. Hannu is out the door by the deadline in exchange for young defenceman.
